I stumbled upon Paralives last year as a avid sims fan, who was left feeling hollow from the sims 4 and it's restrictions.
At the time I replayed the cycle, that many Sims fans do. I would wait for the sims 4 to load, and then would spend hours creating my sim only to spend 15 minutes actually playing with them.
The game was boring, filled with repetitive automations and zero storytelling components.
Paralives promises a game constructed upon freedom, a game which isn't restricted to boredom or to loading screens.
But what is it?
As quoted from the game description 'In Paralives, you are free to build homes, create characters, and manage their lives inside their homes and all around an open world town'
The game description explains that there will be 'innovative build tools', and then continues in a second paragraph 'Players can build walls at any length, and at any angle. Your perfect house contains curved walls? Paralives has the tools for that.'
In other words Paralives is life simulation which glides past other games, with it's building tools and content.
Paralives: What can we expect?
According to the creators, we can expect a city full of events, people and ways to develop your Parafolks (name for characters). It will be an open world, with shops, parks, workplaces and other spots. Below is a scene of a pizza place with a dog, which shows the immense detail which we might see around the city.
We can also expect an advanced Para maker, for the Parafolk, and a colour wheel for hair, skin, eyes and clothes. The game creators have announced that there will be advanced personality and AI for the Parafolks.
Although not confirmed yet, there is speculation about what this personality system could entail, with the ideal being the Parafolks have AI that can develop as they do actions.
For example, if a Parafolk goes swimming several times, perhaps there more inclined to like swimming, but this is still a speculation.
Some other confirmed features include dogs, cats and horses along with cars, bikes and boats. Weather effects and seasons, and build mode tools.
The creators will include one world within the initial first game, but have said that more worlds and a world creation tool will come after release. Possibly this could mean that updates will include these features, although they may also come within other games, if created.
Speculation and my thoughts
Paralives could be the game many have been waiting for, a new concept which is intriguing to the player. In my eyes, this is a game we should all be keeping track of, a simulation which is different than the ones we've had before.
Already we've seen the graphics of the game develop as the funding increases, with lighting and shadows becoming realistic. And as each day passes we can see on the Paralives social accounts, the game blossoming with life.
Overall I'm excited for this upcoming game, and am hoping that it exceeds my expectations.
