Cyberpunk 2077 Delayed to December 10th

Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed again, 21 days from its November 19th release date to December 10th. Now one of the most anticipated games in history, Cyberpunk was originally slated for release on April 16th 2020, but it was later delayed to September 17th. A second delay pushed it to November 19th. This will be the third time the game has been delayed, and many fans will be wondering how many more delays will happen before the game will finally launch.

Is the delay surprising? Not really, and let's be honest, a delay for a game of this magnitude is actually benefitial: the more time the devs spend polishing the game, the better the game will be when it finally launches. A delayed game is better than a rushed game, after all. And in the words of Shigeru Miyamoto “A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad.” This is good to keep in mind when hearing about Cyberpunk's delays, because, from everything we've seen, the game seems to be more than amazing, so more polish will simply confirm that we will really, really love it. But were there reasons given for this latest delay? This time it seems to be primarily due to shipping the game on multiple generations of hardware simultaneously, apparently nine systems, which can't be easy. Originally, there were no plans for PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of the game until later, so it seems something has changed internally, as now they are testing for these next gen systems.

However, CD Projekt Red had previously stated that there would be no more delays, so this contradiction has not gone down easily among a ravenous audience. Many people who have preordered the game are now cancelling their orders, and taking to social media to vent their frustrations. Ultimately, the game will be released, and will most likely be a stellar game, so deciding to try for a refund may be wasting your time, as you'll probably end up buying it again later. In all likelihood, many players will listen to their friends raving about how awesome the game is, only to go back to the store and buy the game again. Already Cyberpunk 2077 has won multiple awards at 2018's E3 – over a hundred in fact, even though it hasn't been released yet. These include Best Game and Best RPG and there are numerous people who have played the game through to it's end, with positive feedback. So keeping your preorders, gritting your teeth and having a bit of faith in an already proven development team seems to be the way to go.

While it is understandable that many people are upset about the delay, there seems to be a lot of negativity thrown towards the developers, and unjustifiably so. It has been reported that the developers at CD Projekt Red didn't even know about the delay until it had been posted on Twitter, so taking a hostile approach against CDPR isn't really the answer. If anything it seems like someone in management should be informing the team, rather than keeping them in the dark. There have even been death threats levelled against the devs. These sorts of responses will never be acceptable and definitely uncalled for. Gamers are a passionate bunch of people and when a game that has been hyped so much and delayed multiple times gets delayed again, it's natural to feel annoyed and even angry. But issuing death threats is stepping over the line, and completely unjustified. A lot of time and work has gone into the game, and it will most likely be an amazing finished product. The team is, and has been, under a lot of pressure, so a real issue here is crunch, and that is definitely not something good for the industry. Let's just hope the devs and their families are okay in these difficult times.

So you may be frustrated, annoyed and even hurt that you won't get to explore Night City for a bit longer. But hang tight, sit back, have a drink, we will get there. Cyberpunk 2077 will probably not only meet your expectations, but beat them, with cybernetically enhanced gorilla arms.
