By now you've had time to watch the official cinematic reveal and hopefully the 5 minutes of in-game alpha footage for Assassin's Creed: Origins. With four years to develop the latest game in the franchise, Ubisoft Montreal is developing a new Assassin's Creed legacy after the last games in the franchise weren't the smash hits that many hoped. Assassin's Creed: Origins has everything it needs to completely revolutionize the franchise moving forward, and we're glad we waited an extra year to see it.

One of the most extensively updated areas of the new game is in the fighting mechanics themselves. Ubisoft incorporate true action-RPG elements into the game, which warranted a fully remodeled fighting system.

Fighting will be fluid and unique to each character.

With the transition to ancient Egypt, the team at Ubisoft knew that there needed to be a full overhaul for combat and maneuvering within the world. One of the first things #Ubisoft talked about at their #E3 conference was the updated feel of combat. Creative director Jean Guesdon said:

"We allow the fight to be way more responsive, way more dynamic so that the player can really play the way they want."

The team behind Assassin's Creed: Origins knew specifically that with the new action-RPG system in game, they could create an intuitive and unique combat system - and that is exactly what they did. What that means in terms of game play is that the combat system is fluid, but also allows you to miss when attempting to strike an enemy. "In previous AC's," said game director Ashraf Ismail, "when you attack the hero and the enemy came together no matter the distance, effectively. This is gone now."

Ranged Weapons

The ranged weapons are exactly what you would think: bows, spears and even thrown weapons. Each ranged weapon is unique and offers a variety of bonuses as well as difficulties in terms of using in-game. For instance a predator bow has the equivalence of a sniper rifle, but has a low rate of fire. Whereas a multi bow that shoots multiple arrows has a high rate of fire, but low accuracy.

Melee Weapons

The opportunities for melee combat have expanded beyond just swords from previous #AssassinsCreed games. In Origins, players can choose from a variety or swords, shields, axes, maces and so much more. The type of melee weapon you choose can be a defining factor of your character, as it truly allows you to create a character that matches your play style.

#AssassinsCreedOrigins is going to be an incredible addition to the franchise and will offer answers to questions that fans of the series have asked for years about the Assassins and their origin, but will give #Ubisoft a great way to continue the story without getting stale.

Assassin's Creed: Origins was released on October 27, 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
