10 Best Gifts for Gamers in 2018

Getting gifts for gamers can be, admittedly, kind of tough. There are so many options out there, and so many different types of gamers. Most people fall into one of four categories: Xbox lovers, PlayStation gamers, Nintendo fans, or PC gamers. Lots of people play more than one of these, but everyone has their mainstay. I, for example, mainly play on Nintendo consoles, but also play a lot on my PC, and plan on getting a PS4 Pro soon. But if I could only have one, I'd probably pick my Nintendo Switch. My birthday isn't that far away, so I certainly wouldn't mind if the important people in my life picked up one of these to gift me. If you know a gamer who has a birthday coming up, or another important holiday, consider one of the following.

I just told you I'm a Nintendo fan, so I have to start off with something for the Switch. The Pro controller is one of the Nintendo Switch accessories every gamer needs, and not without good reason. It's one of the most comfortable controllers I've ever played with, and still includes great features like gyro and HD rumble, and comes in at a pretty affordable price. If the Joy-Con controllers feel a little too small for your hands (or your gamer friends'), the Pro controller is the best solution.

Time for one of the best gifts for gamers if the gamer in your life falls into the Xbox lovers category! When you thin Xbox exclusives, you think about two main franchises: Halo and Forza. Forza Motorsport 7 is the latest and greatest entry to the franchise, and if you have an Xbox One X, you can play in stunning 4K. There are over 700 cars and 30 different locations to race through. If you wanted to race every single car in every single location, you'd have to race 21,000 times! Talk about replayability.

If you really want to go all out for your gamer who's a big PlayStation fan, but hasn't gotten themselves a PlayStation VR headset yet, this is the perfect choice. VR completely reinvented the gaming world, and while there are a lot of different VR consoles out there, the PSVR is probably the best choice (and is also the cheapest). Don't forget to pick up some of the best VR games for PS4 while you're at it, so your gamer friend isn't stuck just playing with the demo game over and over again without much else to do.

At last, we get into the realm of PC gaming. I doubt you're going to buy your gamer friend an entire PC gaming rig (you probably wouldn't get what they wanted anyway). However, as one of the best gifts for gamers who play on PC, the Razer Basilisk is a top of the line gaming mouse. It's designed with FPS gamers in mind, so if your gamer boyfriend or girlfriend can't get enough of PUBG or Fortnite, this is the perfect mouse for them. Also, it changes colors! So if you're not a fan of the green, make it blue! Or red! Whatever you want! Pair it with a gaming keyboard and you're set.

Finally, something everyone can enjoy! No matter which gaming console your friend enjoys, they can enjoy this gaming headset. It's compatible with PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. Providing super high-quality sound, a noise-canceling microphone, and comfy ear cups, you can't really get a better headset than this. It's perfect for communicating with your team in Overwatch or whatever cooperative game you might want to play. Gaming headsets are among the perfect gifts for gamers since they reach all audiences.

Okay, if your gamer friend has a Nintendo Switch but doesn't have Breath of the Wild, you need to get them this game right now. It was one of the best Nintendo Switch games of 2017, and I'm sure will be considered one of the best games for the console of all time. I love this game more than I can express, and I promise the gamer in your life will love it too. There's a reason that it was chosen as 2017's Game of the Year, and walked away with some other awards as well. Super Mario Odyssey is also a good game choice if they already have this.

Officially licensed by Energizer and Microsoft, this charging station can charge two wireless Xbox controllers at once. It also comes with an AC adapter and two Energizer battery packs for up to 35 hours of playtime! If you know your Xbox gamer friend, you know that their controller runs out of power really quickly. I mean, who hasn't sunk over 50 hours into Sea of Thieves yet? You know you don't want your controller running out of power in the middle of any video game, especially a multiplayer one. One moment with no power, and you're a goner. Save your friend's high score with one of the more important gifts for gamers.

You want to splurge on one of the greatest gifts for gamers out there right now? Get them a 4K TV. Both the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X can run games in 4K quality, which is the highest quality available in the casual market right now (8K is on its way, but it'll be a while before it makes it to the average gamer). The TCL TV has smart capabilities with Roku, offering access to lots of movies and TV shows. But that's not what we're here for; we're here for the gaming! It's a #1 best-seller for good reason; it has a super bright LED screen and a 60Hz, 120Hz CMI refresh rate, something all gamers value.

If your gamer friend is interested in streaming their gaming on Twitch, you want to get them something that can capture their games and broadcast them onto the streaming service. You can add webcam, overlays and more while streaming. It's compatible with PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Wii U, and Nintendo Switch. So no matter what fandom your gamer friend is in, if they are interested in becoming a streamer, they will need this high-quality game capture device.

A lot of people find gift cards to be a "lame" gift, like you put in zero effort, but if my experience is anything to go off of, gamers definitely don't mind a good gift card. Let them buy what they want, when they want! Steam gift cards are always a safe bet, especially if your friend is a PC gamer. They can buy a bunch of small games, one big game, whatever. Let them do all the work. Ultimately, the best gifts for gamers are something they want to enhance their gaming experience or get more playtime out of their console, and everything I've shown will do just that.
