If your introvert like me, this might be the easiest challenge (clue: it’s not)

Steve, the creator of the world’s quietest room shared that as soon as you reach 30 minutes inside, you’ll start hearing weird bodily fluid noises, you struggle to stand and open your eyes. and all the other fun stuff once you get to participate at the challenge.

Kidding aside, what’s the real purpose of this room?

Why Is The Room Created?

Only for two things — product testing and research.

Tech companies will test their products to find out it’s real loudness (apart from the background noises) Next is research, NASA astronauts train here in order to expertly adapt the silence once they are alone in space.

So it’s not exactly some challenge to see how long a person can last.

The World’s Quietest Room Survival Guide:

What you can see here is a list of gathered materials of what an average person will experience once inside (from written articles and first-hand accounts of Ryan Trahan)

1. It’s hard to tell the time

The perception of time really changes you. Ryan, a participant of the world’s quietest room study was unable to estimate the time correctly. (either too low such as a few minutes off or too high)

2. You can’t tell if your eyes is open or closed

Darkness. Everything is black.

Once your eyes are attuned to the darkness, you can find that there’s really nothing to see since there are no extra lights. You can’t even see what is in front of you.

3. It’s actually very loud

Contrary to what you might expect from the name, it’s actually very loud.

Once you hit the 30-minute mark, your ears will start to hear strange noises from your heart beating loudly, bone cracking, and joints moving in your arms and legs. (Weird right?)

4. Your body forgets how to walk

If you try to stand from a sitting position, be extremely careful.

The problem here is your body forgets how to walk. It’s not like your paralyzed, you won’t feel any physical pain. (once the experiments ends there are no repercussions) What makes your body forget is because your mind feels something is off. Let me explain.

Usually how we walk as humans is we receive this “feedback noises” to say to our body, hey you’re walking right now.

In the quietest room, instead of seeing the ground ahead of you, you just see blackness. In the quietest room you, instead of hearing your footsteps, you hear nothing. That’s how your body accidentally forgets how to walk normally again until you walk outside of the room. This is why the creator of the room suggested that once you reached the 30-minute mark, the participant should start sitting down.

5. You feel like a superhero

Inside this room you feel powerful — you now have super-hearing, super-touch, super-taste and on and on (you get the gist)

But at the cost of forgetting how to walk? I’ll pass.

How To Beat It? (Advice From The Creator)

In an interview with Ryan Trahan, Steve the creator of the renowned room shared his tips in a few words:

  1. Be very Zen
  2. Relax
  3. Don’t stand up

Conclusion:

So should you go and attempt this challenge? Maybe. As tempting it might be, once I learned what really happens behind the scenes my decision change to skipping it instead. (I’m sorry fellow introverts)
