The scariest things may be unseen. “See for yourself, if you dare!!

What’s unseen once seen can’t be unseen!!!

Wanna facetime? mmmm tasty

This handsome boy is called a Demodex. Its approximately 0.3mm, and although you can’t see them, they have set up house. Living it up on your forehead, nose and chin. At night, they throw orgies, vigorously mating on your face and then laying eggs in the pores of your skin. 😳 Most disturbing thing is that the Demodex have no anal orifice to evict. They accumulate and build up to death bursting with... feces. Right on your face.

You probably have a few dozen arachnids grinding up on the tiny shafts of hair lodged inside your face, quietly gorging themselves on your natural oils.

Don’t freak out? Yeah, right!

OK, you can freak out if you want. But there's nothing wrong with you.

Everyone is hosting these parties unaware. These tick-like arachnids are known as face mites and they live peaceful lives buried in the facial pores of most human adults. (The mites are not found on babies, and they are thought to be transmitted through motherly contact.)

These creepy-crawlies are eight-legged, mostly transparent and microscopic in size, measuring about 0.01 inches apiece. They live near the roots of facial hair follicles on both men and women, hidden away inside your pores.

Demodex mites are more prevalent among humans than previously thought. The use of new sampling techniques determined that evidence of mites living on 100% of participants 18 years of age or older. Making this genus of mites the first described group of arthropods that live on the bodies of all humans.

NO PASSPORT NEEDED:

Additionally found, each mite carries a geographic signature within its DNA. For example, mites from China are genetically different from mites collected from the Americas, which are then different from the mites collected from Africa. Because these mites are so closely tied to our bodies, ubiquitous among adult humans, and have predictable genetic differences, they are able to use them as a good model organism for tracking how people have migrated around the world through time. Prehistoric tracking devices!?!!

Lastly, make sure you thank your parents, or your aunt Millie, because it is almost guaranteed that you originally got your Mites from them! Mites collected from family groups are more similar to one another than the mites that are collected from people that are not related. Mites also carry the genetic signature of the place in which your family is from historically, regardless of whether that is the place in which you currently live. This suggests that not only do we get our mites from close contact at a young age, but also that our mite populations stay "relatively" stable throughout our lives and over the course of generations.

Demodex mites are microscopic arachnids (relatives of spiders and ticks) that live in and on the skin of mammals – including humans.

Just think, in your lifetime, your nose could serve as the family home to hundreds of generations of grease-swilling, nocturnal-partying arachnids.

Party on Wayne, party on Garth

If that thought doesn't fill your heart and pores with pride!! What's even better, is that clean up is a breeze!! Demodex pack in what they eat, storing their poop in their bodies for the full duration of their brief lives.

So, go ahead, scrub it up! Continue to do the things that make you feel good, clean and fresh is best!

Just remember, now that you have the full scoop on the mighty mites gifted from generation's long ago, be sure to wave during that next selfie.

I'm sure you have been told before, "we are not alone"
