Prescription Assistance Scams
How to Get Help with Prescription Drugs
There are a lot of sites online that offer prescription drug assistance out there. Finding the right one can be a very daunting task. I’m here to help you navigate the drug assistance field and help you avoid any pitfalls while searching.
There are several things to watch out for when searching for a prescription drug assistance program. First, you’ll want to know if the place is legit or a scam. Second, you’ll want to make sure the programs they offer are up to date. Third, you want to make sure the program offered is a manufacturer program.
There are many companies out there claiming to be drug assistance programs. What they actually do is depend on a nonprofit organization, which I will mention later, that keeps track of drug programs. They then sell this as their knowledge, telling you they are helping you get your medications. In reality, they are just selling you the manufacturer’s free forms. And they don’t normally assist you in obtaining the drug. Anytime you have to pay for assistance is a red flag with drug assistance programs. No program will charge you a fee to join.
Not all sites claiming to have a list of manufacturers' assistance programs are kept up to date. They’ll have forms that are 2 to 3 years old. The problem with this is some assistance programs come and go, depending on the funding. Paperwork is changed and legal jargon is made up to date. Then you run a huge risk of being turned down for having the wrong forms.
Last, but not least, there are a few programs out there that help with the copays of your medication. Pan Foundation and Healthwell Foundation are two legit copay assistance programs, but they only help by diagnosis. You will never have to pay for their application, but you will have to pay for a percentage of your prescription. I would use these programs as a last resort since they go by specific diagnoses.
Now, after searching for drug assistance, then reading this, if you feel a little overwhelmed, don’t worry. There is a legit solution out there, and I am going to tell you about it. If you need assistance, then go to NeedyMeds.org. They are a nonprofit organization that keeps track of all the manufacturers' programs, copays, rebates, and coupons. Yes, even coupons.
The way you use NeedyMeds is you enter your drug into the search engine of the site. If there is a program, rebate, or coupon a link will come up. As simple as that. Or if you prefer, you can look the drug up alphabetically. The site is really easy to maneuver around.
You can get assistance on Viagra, Entresto, or Synthroid, among many other medications. The same with a copay and a rebate, but you can include glucose monitors and blood pressure monitors to the list of items you can apply for, also. As for coupons, you can find any over-the-counter pharmaceutical medication imaginable. Metamucil, Avo, Bayer, Centrume, and the list goes on.
So don’t waste time on a site that more than likely will be a scam, wanting you to shell out forty dollars or more to get assistance. Go straight to NeedyMeds, and get the right help when you need it.
Now, you may wonder what qualifies me to tell anyone where to get prescription drug assistance. For seven years, I worked as a prescription advocate, actually assisting others in getting their medications. I heard many stories of good people getting taken advantage of, just because they were down on their luck. When if they had just gone to NeedyMeds first, they wouldn’t have gotten scammed out of a lot of money.
