The ants are small living creatures which make us irritating sometimes, but do you know why the ants exist? and what is the role of ants on the earth surface? Well ants are present everywhere, almost in all parts and continents of the world. There are more than 11000 species of ants worldwide, from which the smallest species is Pharaoh ants whose size about 2mm. The biggest species is dinoponera whose length is about 3-4 cm.

Ant is a social animal. It prefer to live in groups which are called ants colonies. These colonies function in a well organized manner. In each colony, there is a queen whose responsibility is to lay eggs and same, each ant has a specific role in the colony. For example, who's gonna collect food and who's gonna see the security of colony etc.

Role of ants

For a healthy environment, all animals have to live in a chain system and Ants are also one of the important part of this chain. So, some of the important role of ants are;

1. Help the soil to breath

Ants make the soil breath and it is one of the most important function of ants. Ants go under soil and construct holes and tunnel like structure which helps the soil to breath.

2. Ants are natural cleaners

The ants have the ability to decompose dead pant and animals which is an essential process for the health of environment. Because without decomposing dead substance, several chemical and physical properties get altered.

3. important part of food chain

Ants are important part of food chain, because many animals and insects depends on ants for their food. For example, anteater and ant birds.

4. Helps to germinate seeds

Ants feed on plants nectar and seed. In this situation when ants take the food to soil for eating, some of the seeds remain in the soil due to which plants grow.

5. Ants are ecosystem engineers

Ants are ecosystem engineers, because they provide shelter to several animals. Due to the presence of ants variety of insects and micrograms are facilitied.

So, now we know that ants are not small irritating animals, but they play an important role in balance of ecosystem.Now let's have a glance on some interesting facts of ants.

1. Ants rises other animals

We think that only humans have the ability to raise other animals for their benefits, but we will get surprised that not only humans but ants also have the same skills. Mostly, ants rises variety of caterpillars and aphids in their colonies, from which they extract honeydew and nectar for their food.

2. Ants have school

Mostly, Animals have set of skills for their survival but in case of ants these skills are missing. So, for learning these skills, ants give a proper school like setup to their children. The most interesting thing is that, the each child is assigned a work according to his learning capability. Isn't it a ideal educational system.

3. Ants don't have ears

Ants don't have ears so, for hearing ants use their feet. Actually, they sense the vibration and feel the activities, happening in their surroundings. In fact, for communication ants rubb different parts of their body due to which vibration is produced and through this vibration they convey the message from one to other.

4. Ants are very strong

Ants are very strong insects, as compare to their size and weight, they can carry more weight.

5. Ants are older than human

Ants are older than human, this is true. According to reachers, the existence of ants are since 200000 years. It means they were present before the existence of human.
