Some of the most influential queens throughout history have had surprisingly good taste in dresses. From Catherine de Medici, on down to Mary I, many of these women were able to adapt and flourish despite their miserable lives. This article will discuss some of the most powerful queens in history and why they were able to make it through so many hardships.

Elizabeth I of England

Elizabeth I of England was born on February 6, 1533. She was the second monarch of the Tudor dynasty and reigned from July 25, 1558 until her death on March 24, 1603.

Elizabeth I was born in Greenwich Palace to King Henry VIII and his third wife Anne Boleyn. The girl was baptized at Chelsea Old Church in London on April 7, 1533. Her father was a vigorous king who had nine wives and several children by each wife. He divorced his first wife Catherine of Aragon because he believed she wouldn't produce male heirs for him. After that, he married Jane Seymour who gave birth to a son named Edward VI who died six months later due to a lung disease which doctors thought could be inherited from his mother or attributed to the sorrows he experienced due to the loss of his father's love when he ascended to the throne at age 10 while still a boy. So Elizabeth became heir apparent after her half-sister Mary I died in 1558 when she was imprisoned in Coventry Castle for refusing to renounce Protestantism and marry Philip II of Spain as her next step towards marriage with the man who would become her husband when she turned 21 years old on June 1,

Cleopatra

Cleopatra VII was the last Greek Ptolemy to rule Egypt, and the last Pharaoh to rule over all of Egypt. She was the last pharaoh of ancient Egypt until the arrival of Muhammad Ali in 1805. She was born in Rome as Cleopatra V Tryphaena in 69 BC. Her father was Ptolemy XII Auletes, a Greek Macedonian general. Her mother Cleopatra VI Tryphaena was a daughter of Antiochus IV Epiphanes and his royal wife Antiochis Diphilina.

Cleopatra VII married her cousin Julius Caesar in 47 BC and had three children with him: Ptolemy XIII Euergetes II Philopator Philometor Caesar (47 BC–AD 44), Ptolemy XIV Caesarion (46 BC-10 AD) and Cleopatra Selene II (40 BC-AD 10). All three were born at court in Rome but were sent back to Egypt when their parents died.

When Cleopatra VII died in 30 BC, Caesarion became co-ruler along with his mother's younger sister Cleopatra Selene II. When Cleopatra VII died in 30 BC, Caesarion became co-ruler along with his mother's

Mary, Queen of Scots

Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots (1542–1587)mother of James VI of Scotland and I of England, was the daughter of the French king Henry II and Catherine de' Medici. She married the Scottish king Henry Stewart, Lord Darnley. After his murder in 1567 she married her cousin, the Earl of Bothwell, who became her second husband in 1567. After his death in 1578 she married her third husband, a young Italian nobleman named Guiseppe de' Medici.

Mary's marriage to Bothwell was not a happy one. He was a violent man who murdered her secretary David Rizzio; Mary never forgave him for this crime. In 1567 she invited her cousin Elizabeth Tudor (later queen) to live at Holyroodhouse as a guest while she awaited Elizabeth's marriage to Prince Philip. In 1568 Elizabeth came to Scotland and took refuge there after fleeing from her uncle King Edward VI's court when Edward had become insane following an unsuccessful attempt on his life by Dudley Carleton and Thomas Howard, Earl of Suffolk. Elizabeth's marriage to Lord Darnley later that year failed due to his poor character and he died soon after their wedding ceremony. Mary then married James Hepburn,
