Evil may triumph when good men do nothing, but the peaceful, good men and women of the world, can stand with the citizens of Ukraine and show our support. There is something that we can all do to help the innocent people that have been chased away from their homes as the country suffers the destructive power of war.

What You Can Do To Help The People Of Ukraine

We all know what’s going on over in Ukraine. Since the invasion of Ukraine by the Russians, the streets of Ukraine have been a battlefield, homes have been destroyed, and fuel depositories are on fire. Tanks rolling through the streets have crushed cars and ravaged businesses.

There doesn’t seem to be an early or quick end in sight for the people of Ukraine. As Vladimir Putin continues his onslaught on Ukraine and keeps the eastern part of Europe on alert, people are fleeing their homes, picking up weapons, and fighting in the streets is a daily scene. This unprovoked attack by Vladimir Putins’ Russian army on the people and sovereignty of Ukraine will continue to yield untold suffering and destruction.

The people of Ukraine will need help for years to come. They haven’t come out from under the effects of Russia’s assault during the annexation of Crimea. How they’ll get that help will be up to the international community and different charities.

There have already been 200 Ukrainians killed in this unprovoked attack on their country. The death toll includes three children. According to Viktor Liashko, the minister of healthcare in Ukraine, there have been nearly 1200 Ukrainian citizens injured during Russia’s attacks. 33 of those were kids.

While not a NATO member, Ukraine is on its own to fight against the Russian occupation of its country. The death toll as they valiantly fight to remain independent from Russia will no doubt climb in the coming days, as well as the devastation of the Russian war machine. Already, refugees are pouring out of Ukraine as people flee for the safety of neighboring countries.

What’s left when it’s over and the dust settles will no doubt depend on the length of this conflict. While Vladimir Putin shakes his saber at the rest of the world, his troops are destroying a neighboring country that has seen years of war and conflict on the eastern side of the country. Meanwhile, some innocents will suffer, children will be left homeless, and people will need help.

There are several organizations to turn to if you would like to make even the smallest of donations to the relief efforts that are already ongoing in Eastern Europe. For most of us, there’s little that we can do to help Ukraine through this historic time. If you’re someone that can, check out the agencies below or do your research and find an organization that you trust to donate to. Remember the famous quote by one of our founding fathers.

Evil triumphs when good men do nothing.

— Thomas Jefferson

Global Giving Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund

There is a fund sponsored by Global Giving, The Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund, that sprung into action once Russia declared war earlier this week.

On the official website, it says your donation will help “affected communities in Ukraine, with a focus on the most vulnerable, including children that need access to food, medical treatment, and psychosocial support.”

International Rescue Committee

With the conflict in Ukraine escalating the International Rescue Committee is getting prepared for the worst. Right now, the International Rescue Committee is mobilizing resources to aid people in Ukraine who have been forced to flee their homes.

On the IRC official website, it says, “The IRC is meeting with partners and local civil society organizations in Poland and Ukraine to assess capacity for responding to an increase of refugees and people in need. We will work to respond where we are needed the most and with services that are needed urgently.”

Save the Children

According to Save The Children, 7.5 million kids are in danger of physical harm, emotional distress, and displacement due to the invasion in Ukraine. Even before the war this week, over 400,000 children there needed humanitarian aid.

Save the children has made its fund to help Ukrainian families now. On its official website, the organization said it will use donations to help families meet their basic needs such as food, medicine, and shelter.

Conclusion

The people of Ukraine didn’t ask for this. They didn’t ask for their homes and their lives to be threatened by an invading Russia. Ukraine is one of the poorest post-Soviet countries. How a country Ukraine will come back from this invasion is unknown.

Whether it’s small, or if it’s large, there’s something that all of the people of this world that find the detestable acts by Vladimir Putin and the Russian army can do. We just have to do it.
