Christianity and Tarot

can the two come together?

These 2 things seem like they shouldn't go together. For most people they don't and for others they can in the right way. Tarot went from being a card game for nobles in Europe to being part of the occult. Then in the late 1700s Antoine Court de Gebelin a French Freemason (and former Protestant minister) revealed that the symbolism in the Tarot was in fact derived from the secrets of Egyptian priests. A lot of symbols of Tarot artwork is connected to the legends of Isis, Osiris and other Egyptian gods. As occult interest in the Tarot grew, it became more associated with the Kabbalah and the secrets of hermetic mysticism.

I was reading a book by Brittany Muller who said in her walk she walked away from the Christian faith and found tarot then tarot ended up leading her back to her faith. It was because she said that the practice felt very spiritual and pray like. In my practice it is very spiritual and personal.

The reason why a lot of Christians don't like it is because they think it's of the devil. They also said you shouldn't want to know the future. In Christianity fortune telling is not allowed. It's because they think it means you don't trust God.

I don't know where the evil comes from in their belief of tarot. But I think that it comes from the fortune tellers of the bible or what it says in the bible about fortune telling. A lot of the fortune tellers in the bible believed in other gods.

Here are some bible verses I found about it:

Jeremiah 27:9 (NLT)

“‘Do not listen to your false prophets, fortune-tellers, interpreters of dreams, mediums, and sorcerers who say, “The king of Babylon will not conquer you.”

Leviticus 19:26 (NLT)

“Do not eat meat that has not been drained of its blood. “Do not practice fortune-telling or witchcraft.

Micah 5:12 (NLT)

I will put an end to all witchcraft, and there will be no more fortune-tellers.

Isaiah 8:19 (NLT)

Someone may say to you, “Let’s ask the mediums and those who consult the spirits of the dead. With their whisperings and mutterings, they will tell us what to do.” But shouldn’t people ask God for guidance? Should the living seek guidance from the dead?

Leviticus 20:6 (NLT)

“I will also turn against those who commit spiritual prostitution by putting their trust in mediums or in those who consult the spirits of the dead. I will cut them off from the community."

The one thing that I do not like or appreciate is the use of prostitution. I find the use of words like prostitution and whore unnecessary in situations like this. The word whore should never be used ever. I do think I understand why they would use that word but it's a disgusting word to be used in this situation.

One thing that I can say about the practice of tarot you don't have to use it for fortune telling. You can use it to answer other questions. You can use it to look within yourself and others. To the point of talking to the dead as seen in the scriptures, I usually use tarot to talk to dead people. I also don't use it for witchcraft or magic.

Should Christians use tarot? It depends on the person and their convictions and intent. If you are using it for the right reasons and it's in their convictions to do so, go ahead. If you think it is evil or you are not going to use it for the right reason, then don't do it.

There are so many things that bible says to do that Christians don't do. There are also things that the bible says not to do that Christians do. Christians lie and cheat even though it says not to in the bible.
