The advent of the Metaverse represents a groundbreaking advancement in technology, one that is still in its nascent stages. The concept of the internet transitioning from 2D to a fully-realized 3D/AR/VR world is incredibly thrilling.

Mark Zuckerberg has expressed his boundless enthusiasm for what's on the horizon for the internet. This sentiment is reflected in his company's recent name change from Facebook to Meta Platforms Inc, or simply, Meta.

Despite the excitement surrounding the Metaverse, it's important to acknowledge potential cybersecurity challenges that may arise. Issues such as ransomware removal and overall cybersecurity malware readiness are more critical than ever before.

As we delve further into this exciting new era of the internet, known as Web 3.0, it's imperative that we also consider the role of cybersecurity.

An Expected Wide Adoption of Avatar Use

In the emerging era of the Metaverse, one notable development that will likely gain attention sooner rather than later is the widespread use of avatars in various forms of messaging and work collaboration applications. This represents a significant game-changer in the field and presents a compelling value proposition for individuals and businesses alike.

At present, chat and collaboration platforms often rely on static emojis, stickers, and GIFs to convey emotional interactions. However, these out-of-the-box options fail to capture the dynamic nature of human emotions and body language. The use of avatars in such interactions, even in non-video-based communication, has the potential to greatly enhance the expressiveness and richness of body language expressions.

With customized 3D avatars, users can now establish a digital identity in each platform respectively. For example, in a future release of a Metaverse enabled WhatsApp, you may possibly use a tool to create a unique avatar to use in Metaverse chats with other advanced features in place.

Entertainment Platforms

Entertainment platforms for music, movies and shows such as SoundCloud, Netflix, Spotify, Apple Music and Prime Video are likely to enrich their platforms by enabling community members to communicate via virtual 3D spaces and avatars and engage via Metaverse related technologies.

Fans potentially may be able to connect in the near future to a live stream on platforms such as YouTube and interact with artists and other fans using avatars and other Metaverse-related technologies.

3D Virtual Spaces & Avatar

Bill Gates predicts that most virtual meetings will be held in 3D virtual spaces, with employees communicating through digital avatars, within the next two to three years. Microsoft Teams is already heading in that direction. In this sink or swim competitive environment, it appears that any other players in this space will have to invest in Metaverse R&D - research and development.

Cybersecurity & Avatars

Beneath the Metaverse's justified hype lies a plethora of potential cybersecurity risks. As this technology is expected to revolutionize web usage, users may be caught off-guard and become complacent about their cybersecurity practices. It is important to recognize that avatars may serve as our digital identity, which could lead to digital identity theft.

To mitigate these risks, it is crucial to implement comprehensive cybersecurity measures on all endpoint devices. This includes deploying a malware protection solution and utilizing a VPN to bolster anonymity during web activities. These measures are vital to safeguarding personal and sensitive information in the rapidly evolving world of the Metaverse.
