What Do You Think?

This article contains spoilers for The Book of Boba Fett Chapter 6: From the Desert Comes a Stranger

The last episode of The Book of Boba Fett was quite a doozy and expanded on some notable characters in the Mando-verse. In the latest episode of The Book of Boba Fett, we were reunited with Luke Skywalker and Grogu as Din Djarin went out of his way to see his little green friend once again. There he sees that he has been training to be a Jedi. But, of course, Din is discouraged from seeing him. For if Grogu is to be a Jedi, then he must be willing to let go of his attachments to those he loves to commit to the ways of the Jedi. A child needs to live independently from their parents. In Din's case, he may have been too overbearing for Grogu to learn about the Force.

At the end of the episode, Luke gives Grogu a choice. He can either choose the way of the Jedi by picking Yoda's lightsaber or return to the Mandalorian and choose some beskar chainmail that Din had gifted him. It is a very poignant and dynamic choice for the young Grogu to make, for he chooses the way of the Jedi he will have to let go of Din and perhaps never see him again. It seems like a difficult choice, for it is a difficult choice because the path of the Jedi is a hard one. It is an ideal to strive for but one with many challenges along the way.

So what path will Grogu choose? Will he choose the way of the Jedi or the Mandalorian?

If he chooses to be a Jedi, Grogu will have to leave Din behind. He would have to give up his attachments and thus commit fully to the Jedi ways. Which would be a lifelong commitment. Although this would mean he could not see Din again. He would still not be able to let go, though. This attachment would be a hindrance to the Jedi training. Much like Anakin, if he is too attached to Din, it will hinder his ability to connect to his calmer emotions.

If Grogu chooses the way of the Mando, though, he can return to Din and forgo his Jedi training. Will he continue to follow the path of the Mandalorian? Perhaps he might even become the Mandalorian himself. A Jedi/Mandalorian who has the ways of both Jedi and Mandalore under his belt. Again though, it's just hard to say, for this path is quite the opposite from the Jedi ways. The Mandalorian focused on solidarity and loyalty to each other. The creed, the code, and the way of the Mandalore.

However, if one had to guess what Grogu would choose, it is quite possible he would choose Din over all of them. At the end of the day, Din is his father and, because of that, wishes to be with him. It does not seem that Grogu is ready to let go of him just yet and completely commit to the ways of the Jedi. Or perhaps he can be a Mandalorian Jedi like Tarre Vizsla was all those years ago. Grogu could be the second Mandalorian Jedi in a thousand years.

Again this is all hard to say in the finale of The Book of Boba Fett. Who knows what Grogu will choose and how this will all play out or if we will even see it. Grogu's path is mysterious as it is exciting. But whatever it is, it will be interesting to see it expand, as well as the galaxy far, far away.
