Some Familiar Voices

Star Wars fans are psyched for one of the new Disney+ shows that was announced last year. Star Wars: The Bad Batch focuses on Clone Force 99, the genetically mutated clone troopers that were first introduced in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The spinoff will be arriving on Tuesday, May the 4th. These clones are extremely famous and some of the most loved clone troopers of the Star Wars universe.

As with all the other clone troopers, each of these elite squads of troopers have been cloned from Jango Fett, as we learned in Episode II. However, even though each of them are still clones, they also each have their own key differences from the standard clone troopers, which lends to the informal “Bad Batch” moniker. They aren’t necessarily the “same.”

Details of this show have been kept pretty quiet and under wraps, so Star Wars fans aren’t quite sure yet what the show will be focusing on, whether it will be continuations of previously developed adventures or if it will be something completely new. However, it is known timeline-wise that Star Wars: The Bad Batch will be taking place in the aftermath after the Clone Wars, so sort of close to a “sequel” series to Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

However, we do know some things about the Star Wars: The Bad Batch cast list. And it is a pretty amazing list.

Any Star Wars series with clone troopers would not be complete without Dee Bradley Baker. He is literally the voice of the clones. Voice acting master Dee Bradley Baker is definitely not a stranger to the Star Wars franchise. He has played multiple Star Wars animated characters over the years, including, most recently, Frog Lady and Frog Man from The Mandalorian. In Star Wars: The Bad Batch, Dee Bradley Baker will voice every single clone trooper, including the members of Clone Force 99.

Dee Bradley Baker has hundreds of voice credits, some of which include every show from Muppet Babies to American Dad! to Spongebob Squarepants. Star Wars fans will also know him from Star Wars Resistance (where he voiced Grevel, Glem, and others), Star Wars: Forces of Destiny (where he voiced Wicket W. Warrick and others), Star Wars Rebels (where he voiced Rex, Admiral Konstantine, and others), and also Lego Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures (where he voiced Bossk, Boba Fett, and others).

Ming-Na Wen will be reprising her role of Fennec Shand that was introduced in The Mandalorian. She will be playing a much younger version of Fennec Shand from the live-action to the animated Star Wars: The Bad Batch. Very similar to what Katee Sackhoff did with Bo-Katan Kryze taking her character from the animated Rebels and The Clone Wars to the live-action The Mandalorian. Ming-Na Wen will also be playing Fennec Shand (live-action) in The Book of Boba Fett, the Boba Fett spinoff series that is scheduled for December 2021.

Ming-Na Wen is most notably known for her role as the voice of the titular character in the 1998 animated movie Mulan. She will also be voice acting in the upcoming HBO Max animated series Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai, a prequel to the 1984 film Gremlins. This animated series is slated for a 2021 release. She is also known for her roles on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Stargate Universe, and ER.

Stephen Stanton is joining the cast of The Bad Batch as Admiral Tarkin, whom he also voiced in The Clone Wars and Rebels. Stephen Stanton has also voiced Griff Halloran in Star Wars Resistance. His resume also includes multiple characters in Scooby-Doo and Guess Who?, Sleepy in Disney’s Snow White-inspired series The 7D, and Fred Dukes and Blob in Wolverine and the X-Men. For live-action, he has done voice work in such shows as It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Parks and Recreation.

Andrew Kishino is joining The Bad Batch by reprising his role of Saw Gerrera, whom he also voiced in The Clone Wars series. Star Wars fans are excited to see Andrew Kishino return as Saw Gerrera. Forest Whitaker played this character in the video game Jedi: Fallen Order, the animated Star Wars Rebels, and the live-action Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Andrew Kishino was in Rebels as Captain Hark for a couple episodes, even though he did not voice Saw Gerrera. Andrew Kishino has also done other voice work on ThunderCats Roar, The Lion Guard, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Without knowing what to expect from Star Wars: The Bad Batch, fans are sure to be excited and treated to several surprises when the series premieres on Star Wars Day, May 4, on Disney+.
