What is Mercury Retrograde?

A retrograde planet is one that appears to be moving in the opposite direction. Astrologically, this means that the energies represented by the planet are directed backwards or inward. Retrograde periods are often riddled with delays and disruption, but they don't have to be. These periods are not so much a time for action, but a time for reflection. Retrograde periods are also loaded with synchronicity and karma. So, they can also be periods of magic and manifestation if you just focus within rather than without. Things from the past will return to us. This could be people from our past, including from our past lives, situations, or memories that we thought we had forgotten about, or maybe just lessons that we're getting a second chance at learning after having failed the first time around.

And what kind of energy does Mercury represent?

Mercury is the messenger of the gods in Roman mythology. Like Venus, Mercury is a social planet, but unlike Venus, which is more about intimate relationships, Mercury is more about communication in general. This includes letters, emails, and even divination. Mercury is also associated with commerce, travelers, and in astrology, it represents the mind (especially the logical mind), intelligence, and the way we think. Look out though: known for its speed and swiftness, Mercury is also the trickster god, associated with both tricksters and thieves.

Ruled by the mutable signs, Virgo (the virgin) and Gemini (the twins), there is a dualistic nature to the planet, that gave birth to the word "mercurial," (meaning unpredictable or changeable). It makes sense then that Mercury would travel between two worlds, being the only Olympic god with the ability to travel between the realm of the gods, and the realm of the underworld, where his job was to accompany souls on their journey to Hades. As the planet closest to the Sun, and also the planet with the fastest orbit, Mercury goes retrograde about three or four times a year, for periods of about three weeks.

Mercury in retrograde periods are generally riddled with delays and mishaps around communication, travel, and technology. For example, your flight might be inconveniently delayed, or your computer may freeze at the most inconvenient time. To use my own life as an example, just about every time Mercury is in retrograde, my phone charger breaks. Miscommunications and misunderstandings are common during this time, so try to be as clear as you possibly can when speaking to others, and avoid making assumptions. Astrologers generally advise that you avoid signing any major contracts during this period, for it may backfire on you once Mercury goes direct. These periods are often loaded with unexpected, unplanned, and seemingly inconvenient events that will make you think of Murphy's Law: "Anything that can go wrong will go wrong."

It really isn't as bad as it sounds, however, as this period also comes with numerous advantages. While Mercury direct represents the logical mind, Mercury retrograde represents the intuitive mind. As the messenger of the gods, its retrograde period is probably the best time for divination. These periods are also often loaded with tons of strange coincidences and synchronicities. There may be messages in your dreams, including messages from ancestors or guardian angels. To some extent, this is true of every planet in retrograde, but in my experience, it's more true with Mercury than with any other, given its nature. The "unexpected" and "unplanned," events mentioned in the last paragraph are not always "inconvenient." More often than not, you'll find that these events are serendipitous and wonderfully fated, presenting you with opportunities of good luck, like being at the right place at the right time. As I said, Mercury is a very dualistic and tricky planet. You just need to know how to work with it. If you believe in the law of attraction, or other forms of manifestation, this is a better time than ever to take advantage of it. Even without the magic and the metaphysical, however, this is a good time to reflect on things; the kind of deep thought, reflection, and consideration necessary to yield powerful ideas and insights, insights that you can put into practice once Mercury goes direct.

Mercury Rx Scorpio: a journey to the underworld, exposing all that's dark & hidden

Mercury Retrograde Scorpio 2020

On October 13th, at around 9:04 PM EST, Mercury will station retrograde at 11'40 degrees Scorpio. Mercury has been in it's pre-retrograde shadow phase since September 23rd, the beginning of Libra Season, giving us a taste of what is to come. I have to admit, just in my own personal life, weird things have been happening ever since, and I expect that when Mercury goes retrograde, things will only get weirder! How weird, you may ask?

For starters, Scorpio is a fixed water sign ruled by the planet Mars. In modern astrology, it is co-ruled by Pluto, the mythological lord of the underworld. Mercury is the planet of communication and logic, but when Mercury goes retrograde through the sign of Scorpio, our logic may be clouded by passion and our communication may take a more indirect turn. Scorpio is known for its heavy emotions and determined but stubborn nature. Scorpio's obsessiveness and hypersensitivity can often lead to tunnel vision, as they become so hyper-focused on their desire that they forget about everything else. But neglecting all the details in favor of one thing may prove dangerous at this time and lead us into situations that could have otherwise been avoided.

As I wrote in this article about October 2019's Mercury Retrograde period, Scorpio was traditionally classified as a "mute," sign. Despite or maybe because of it's deep emotions, Scorpio is not very prone to the use of words. Instead, it prefers to communicate through more subtle means, like body language, subtext or tone of voice. It is easy for Mercury in Scorpio to read between the lines and detect the secret emotions of others as well. However, with Mercury in Retrograde, this lack of verbality may lead to misunderstandings, and our assumptions about what other people feel may turn out to be wrong or even paranoid. It may be hard for us to take things at face value now, but by reading too much into what people say or do, we may see things that aren't even there. Scorpio is at times associated with manipulation or subterfuge in pursuit of getting what it wants, but if deception does take place during this time, the truth will come out and make the liar look like a fool.

Furthermore, Scorpio is a sign often associated with mystery and the occult. After all, Halloween - the night when line that separates the material world from the spiritual is said to be at its thinnest - takes place during the Sun's passage through this sign. This could lend itself to spooky encounters or a feeling of being haunted. If we don't come into contact with a literal ghost, we may find ourselves stuck in situations that are just plain weird. Mercury Retrograde is famous for bringing back "ghosts," from our past. On an emotional level, we may find ourselves haunted by a situation or memory that we'd rather forget, whether this be due to pain or shame, and it may feel like circumstances are forcing us to work things out.

Merc Rx in Scorpio opposite Uranus: things aren't what they seem

To make matters more complicated, Mercury in Scorpio will be challenged by an opposition to Uranus at 9'23 degrees Taurus. Uranus is known as "the Great Awakener," a symbol of revolution, rebellion, freedom and independence, as well as shock and surprise. With Uranus in opposition to Mercury in Scorpio, we may be more rebellious than usual and more inclined to reveal truths that we're often too afraid to say. A secret may be confessed or an unexpected outpouring of feeling that we weren't expecting to hear. On a personal level, this opposition can lead to increased anxiety as a result of information overload. But on a collective level too, this opposition indicates shocking information being released to the public. Perhaps even government secrets? New and contradictory information may come out on a daily basis, leading to mass confusion.

I think it's worth noting that the 2020 United States Presidential Election (which I will write another article about) is set to take place on November 3rd, while Mercury is still in retrograde. While Mercury will already be in Libra by then, it is my belief that the events leading up to the election will be influenced by the opposition between Mercury Retrograde and Uranus. The initial plans for the election are likely to go awry, radical changes will take place and we may very well wind up with two candidates who we didn't expect. Donald Trump fell ill, as I predicted here, and assuming he survives, I don't think he'll be healthy enough to resume the role of president. I feel like Trump's illness, which spread to nearly the entire Republican Party, following the celebration at the Rose Garden, is just the beginning of a series of things that are about to go wrong. I haven't analyzed his chart yet, but I have a feeling that it may just very well be a battle between Kamala Harris & Mike Pence... or perhaps, the system will just crumble altogether.

I am speaking from my own perspective as an American, but similar situations may repeat themselves in other countries around the globe.

Merc Rx Scorpio sextile Moon & Venus: separated lovers reunite

The Moon and Venus at 12'08 and 13'09 degrees Virgo will be sextile Mercury, however, giving the retrograde a more positive influence. With Moon conjunct Venus, there is a feeling of harmony in the air, and perhaps in the sign of Virgo, an urge to organize your environment in a way that is comfortable. Moon and Venus sextile Mercury Retrograde makes this an especially good time for reviewing emotional matters, especially matters related to love, and smoothing over conflicts. This is a very good time for reconnecting with people who you've lost touch with and rectifying problems with anyone who you have had a falling out with, as they'll be more likely to listen to your side of the story with a open mind. Business negotiations are likely to go well during this period, but more importantly, this is a good time to catch up with old friends and family members, and you may just unexpectedly run into some of them. This aspect allows you to heal from old wounds, but it is also a good aspect for dating and flirtation. Some of us may patch things up with an ex or old lover. People are more likely to confess their feelings and express their love and affection than they would be otherwise during this influence. Essentially, the sextile to the Moon and Venus makes this retrograde pleasant and emotionally fulfilling overall.

Scorpio's ruling planet, Mars, is currently Retrograde at 21'03 degrees Aries, and it will be almost exactly opposite the Sun in Libra (at 21'08 degrees) when Mercury stations Retrograde on the 13th. This aspect can indicate conflict arising from issues of ego, power struggles, essentially, or all around feelings of anger and frustration in those affected. More likely, however, I think it indicates a conflict between our own desires which we feel driven to express, and our obligations to other people. We may not feel able to express our feelings as directly as we'd like to during this influence of this transit.

On that note, the Sun will also be trine the North Node at 21'58 degrees Gemini. The North Node is a point of destiny and growth and the trine , on a psychological level, indicates that a push moving forward to the people we're meant to become. On a collective level, it represents fated or karmic events, a turn-around or change in destiny, especially changes related to communications or the justice system, or ways in which we interact with each other. On a person level, it can represent being in the right place at the right time, serendipitous events and synchronicity. Meanwhile, Mars Rx trine South Node indicates that we're letting go of past conflicts and learning how to pick our battles wisely.

Mercury Rx Libra square Saturn: trapped by our own minds

Mercury Retrograde Libra 2020

On October 27th, Mercury will enter the sign of Libra. Libra is an Air sign and usually classified as "vocal." In any case, the social and intellectual qualities of Libra should make it easier to communicate and effectively get our ideas across in a more diplomatic & palatable way. However, Mercury is still Retrograde until November 3rd, and until then, communication problems should still be the norm. Mercury in Libra has a tendency to consider all sides of a situation or issue, looking at things from every angle in an effort to be fair. When Mercury goes Retrograde, however, this will not only lead to indecisiveness or inaction, but anxiety as well. We may overthink our every action, hyper-aware of every little thing that could potentially go wrong no matter what decision we make. We may try too hard to avoid conflict and be liked by others. We may try so hard to be everything to everyone that we wind up being liked by no one. It's important to remember that those who try too hard to seek the middle ground usually only wind up being hated equally by both sides.

Communication is further impacted by Mercury's square to Saturn in Capricorn. This anxiety I mention and fear of causing conflict could lead us to clam up and remain silent. Saturn blocks whatever it touches and Saturn is particularly strong in Capricorn, the sign of its domicile. We may even feel like we can't think straight, but no matter how clear our internal thought system may be, we may still find it hard to voice what we are saying. If not due to an inner fear, or social anxiety, Saturn in Capricorn is also a significator for governments and other institutions of authority. It may be that many of us stay quiet about our own ideas to avoid losing respect, but it could also very well be that the government is silencing people by force. This could be interpreted as an indicator of government crackdown on free speech; people being unfairly punished for dissent or disagreement. The scales, symbolized by the sign of Libra, are almost universally seen as a symbol of social justice, and sometimes standing up for justice makes one hated by those in power. This aspect can indicate both speech suppression and thought control.

Libra & Scorpio

Mercury Direct

On November 3rd, 2020, Mercury will finally station direct at 25'53 degrees Libra. That's election day for Americans. By then, we should receive more clarity on our situation. However, Mercury will still be square Saturn in Capricorn, and communication may remain inhibited or blocked for a while. Things won't completely turn back to normal until November 19th, when Mercury leaves its post-retrograde shadow period.

Interestingly, the Sun will be at 11'48 degrees Scorpio the moment Mercury stations direct. It's interesting because that's the same degree Mercury was at when it stationed retrograde. To me, this signifies what particular power and importance this Mercury Retrograde season holds.

Its also worth noting that even though Mercury will square Saturn, it will be conjunct the fixed star Spica, one of the most positive fixed stars used in astrology. Located in the ear of wheat (or corn, depending on who you ask) in the Virgo constellation, Spica is of the nature of Venus & Mars and indicates good fortune, honor, spiritual or religious abilities, artistic or musical skill, and success in literature or science.

Horoscopes

Now it's time to see how it will affect your sign. I suggest reading the horoscope for your ascendant or rising sign, first, instead of the sun. I find the rising sign horoscope to be more accurate than the sun, as these horoscopes are based on the houses. If you don't know your rising sign, click here to generate a birth chart. Yes, you will need your birth time for this. If you don't have your birth time, Sun sign horoscopes are the next best thing.

People with angles or personal planets (or even the North and South Node) between 0 and 12 degrees of the fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) and 24 and 30 degrees of the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) will most especially be affected by this transit. If you have angles or personal planets between 0 and 12 degrees of the other Water signs (Cancer and Pisces) or 24 and 30 degrees of the other Air signs (Gemini and Aquarius) you may be affected as well.

Ghosts and skeletons from your past may worm their way back to your heart, Aries

Aries Rising

This month's Mercury Retrograde period through Scorpio falls into your 8th house, which is primarily about death and debt. On one hand, you may be obsessed with your own mortality, or in any case, more anxious than usual. Perhaps, you'll come into contact with spirits from the other side - or more likely, you'll be haunted by spirits who only exist in your head. It may be hard to distinguish reality from your own fear and paranoia at this time. On the other hand, there may be issues or misunderstandings regarding taxes, or loans made out to either you or others. Because Mercury rules both your 3rd and your 6th house, this could be a loan you lent out to your sister or brother or it could be a massive overcharge on a hospital bill that you weren't expecting. With Mercury opposite Uranus, I think the financial meaning is more likely. There may be unexpected gains and losses, perhaps gains as a result of your losses or losses as a result of your gains. You could receive a compensation from someone that is long overdue, or you may have to come face-to-face with your own debt. If not monetary, then, emotional, karmic.

When Mercury enters Libra on October 27th, you could hear from some important figure in your past, or else you may be given time to reflect on important relational issues. You're not usually known for your patience or tact, Aries. Maybe, you're struggling with how to communicate diplomatically or meet your partner half-way, but this is something you can work on. With Mercury squaring Saturn in the 10th house, it may seem like your busy work life is preventing you from being the ideal partner, and you may be struggling with knowing how to balance your career with romantic or relationship duties. Libra falls into your 7th house of partnership; if romance or marriage does not apply, it may also relate to business, close friends or even your opponents.

Is love tearing you apart, Taurus?

Taurus Rising

With Mercury Retrograde in your 7th house of partnerships, secrecy and miscommunication could threaten the security of your relationships. With Mercury ruling your 2nd and 5th houses, this could be a secret or miscommunication having to do with money and financial security, or your romantic desires and hobbies. Maybe you feel like your partner isn't spending enough money on you or giving you as much time and attention as you feel you deserve. Stability is very important to you, Taurus, and Uranus in the 1st house opposite Mercury in the 7th is a de-stabilizing influence. If these things really matter to you, I suggest you speak up and be as honest and clear with your words as possible. On another note, Mercury's Retrograde through Scorpio can have you thinking, dwelling, or obsessing over past relationships, and this can be a good time to fix things and/or seek closure. With Mercury opposite Uranus in the 1st, I would think that seeking closure or talking to others about your love life can help to free you from past attachments and move on for good.

When Mercury enters Libra on October 27th, things might get a little bit more stressful. Mercury will then enter your 6th house of health and service, causing you to develop some anxiety around these topics. With Mercury square Saturn in the 9th house of travel and beliefs, it could be that your belief system is getting in the way of seeking the treatment you need or you feel suppressed or repressed by the lack of travel available to you during the times of COVID-19.

Don't let isolation and a fear of death prevent you from having fun, Gemini

Gemini Rising

You're a social person, Gemini, and isolating from family or friends is hard for you. But with Mercury Retrograde in your 6th house of health and opposite Uranus in the 12th house of seclusion and confinement, you'll likely have to. While this could indicate a shocking or surprising health problem, it might also be more paranoia than anything rooted in reality. Mercury not only rules your 1st house but your 4th house as well, so if you're not worried about your own health specifically, you could also be anxious about a family member getting sick. In any case, you'll feel the need to avoid others in a way you're not used to.

When Mercury enters Libra on October 27th, things might get a little bit better. With Mercury in your 5th house, you're able to liven up and go back to doing the things you normally enjoy. But with Mercury square Saturn in the 8th, you might let the fear of death, or in any case fear, prevent you from having a good time. For instance, you might isolate yourself due to the anxiety of what might happen when you let yourself be a part of large crowds and I don't blame you. In any case, I would try to focus on doing things you enjoy when alone (like reading, TV, listening to music, writing, art, etc.) or keeping in touch with friends through Zoom, FaceTime, or if you're all taking the right precautions, even socially distanced hang-outs.

Don't be afraid to add color to your life, Cancer

Cancer Rising

With Mercury Retrograde in your 5th house of fun, life might be seeming less and less pleasurable than it usual is. You're an emotional person, Cancer, and right now, you might be doing too much overthinking to find joy in life. Mercury rules both your 12th and 3rd houses so you might be isolating yourself and not communicating. This could you to feelings of boredom and unhappiness. You might reviewing and reflecting on whether or not your hobbies, or methods of communication or spiritual path or whatever, are worth the stress they cause. With Mercury opposite Uranus in your 11th house, you might find that your friends are shocked by your way of life and the things that you enjoy and you may feel pressured to get new friends. You may feel a conflict between having to conform and popular and living from your heart to the point of isolation and condemnation.

On October 27th, Mercury will move into your 4th houses, causing miscommunication with your family members, or in any case, the stress of the last few weeks may lead to wanting to spend more time alone than usual. With Mercury in the 4th square Saturn in the 7th house, there might be miscommunications with your family and your lovers. You might feel like your responsibility to your partner, whether it be husband/wife or just a crush, is leading you to neglect family duties, and you might be trying hard - to the point of psyching yourself out - to balance the two.

Are the expectations of your ancestors preventing you from living your dream, Leo?

Leo Rising

With Mercury in the 4th house of home and family, there may be miscommunications with your family at this time. Or maybe you'll end up learning some unexpected family secrets. With Mercury opposite Uranus in the 10th house, this may end up affecting your career in some way or perhaps your plans for career or how other people see you. With Mercury ruling your 11th and 2nd houses, this could also influence the way your friends see you or the way you make money. Maybe you want to make a change in your career and your family or friends aren't supportive of that. Maybe they don't think your dreams are practical enough. In any case, there are likely unexpected secrets or miscommunications between you and your loved ones that can wind up leading to frustration.

With Mercury Retrograde entering your 3rd house on October 27th, the miscommunication continues. You're normally a very joyful and confident person, Leo, but since Mercury is square Saturn in the 6th house of health and illness, you may be too scared to tell others about how you truly feel or what health issues you're truly facing. Otherwise, you may find that your health problems literally make it more difficult to spend as much time with others as you may want, leaving you feeling isolated and trapped.

So what if your beliefs differ a little from what you're taught in school, Virgo?

Virgo Rising

With Mercury Retrograde in your 3rd house and opposite Uranus in the 9th house, it may be hard for you to be honest and communicate how you really feel at this time. It may feel as if your beliefs are too freaky or out there. Too alternative. With Mercury ruling your 1st house, this may be hard for you Virgo, but with Mercury ruling your 10th house, if you don't keep quiet, it may ruin your career and this is something you're quite afraid of. You may feel like you're being faced with an internal dilemma of some sort, leading to much stress.

When Mercury enters Libra on October 27th, money issues may get pushed to the forefront. With Mercury Retrograde in the 2nd house square Saturn in the 5th house of fun and games, it may feel like you're financially unable to live the lifestyle you want for yourself. You may feel like having fun and engaging yourself in the hobbies you enjoy costs too much money, or at least having kids cost too much money. In any case, by the time Mercury goes Direct, you should be able to find the right balance.

Spiritual wealth is more valuable than anything you can buy at a store, Libra

Libra Rising

Money matters may be a challenge when Mercury Retrogrades through your natal 2nd house of possessions and finances. Ruled by Venus, you're known for living it up, Libra, but when Mercury opposes Uranus in your natal 8th house, you may have to come face to face with the dangers of what impulsive spending might do to you. For example, you may buy a new product only to have it break shortly after, or maybe the new and super cute outfit you bought doesn't even fit. Too bad it's non-refundable. Since Mercury rules your 9th and 12th houses, you may be spending too much money on things such as travel (i.e. plane tickets) or education (anything from books to actual schooling). On a more positive note, belongings you've thought you've lost may find their way back to you and you're learning more about what things you truly value. Most importantly, you're learning to find more value in non-material things. Knowledge is power and the beauty of an idea is more valuable than anything you can buy. That which is truly valuable you'll never be able to lose.

On October 27th, Mercury will enter your 1st house, which may cause a bit of an identity crisis. You may have trouble figuring out just who you truly are or finding the words to describe it or give a label to it. With Mercury squaring Saturn in your 4th house, you may feel the need to silence yourself to win your family's approval. It may be that the judgements of family members, whether in real time or just the memory of it in your head, prevent you from expressing yourself fully. It's up to you to decide what's most important: pleasing your family members or speaking up about who you truly are?

You decide who you are, Scorpio

Scorpio Rising

With Mercury Retrograde in your natal 1st house, you may have a bit of an identity crisis. You're a complicated person, Scorpio, and you might have a hard time finding the labels to describe who you truly are at your core. Since Mercury rules both your 8th house of loss and 11th house of friends, you may worry you'll lose friends by speaking out or saying the wrong thing. Mercury opposing Uranus in the 7th shows feelings of alienation in your relationships. However, if you don't feel free to be yourself with your partner or free to speak your truth, you might decide that you're better off somewhere else. In any case, you're undergoing a transformation in who you are, what you think and how you express yourself.

When Mercury enters Libra on October 27th, you may feel even more isolated for some time, and perhaps indecisive. Mercury will be Retrograde in your 12th house, a house associated with isolation, and square Saturn in the 3rd house of communication. You may feel even more misunderstood than usual, like everyone is taking your words out of context. You may feel the need to withdraw from social gatherings in order to clear your head and figure out what it is you really think and the right way to express it.

Are you feeling like a caged bird, Sagittarius?

Sagittarius Rising

With Mercury Retrograde in Scorpio ruling your 7th house of relationships and 10th house of career, the way you interact with others and present yourself to the world is being transformed. You're a very social person, Sagittarius, an extrovert known for moving out and about in the world. But with Mercury in your 12th house, you may feel the need to isolate yourself in order to make these changes. If you're in an area that's experiencing lockdown, it may be extra hard for you. In any case, you may feel misunderstood or alienated from what people you do interact with, so you're withdrawing from the world and getting in touch with what you really think at heart and soul. With Mercury opposing Uranus in the 6th house, there could be sudden changes to your health, or to the health of someone you know. While in all honesty, a single transit, such as Mercury Retrograde, is unlikely to have a drastic effect on your health or the health of those around you, you might be feeling extra anxious about your health at this time and this may be what leads you to spending more time at home.

When Mercury enters Libra in your 11th house of friends and social groups, your social life may start to get back on track. However, Mercury will be making a square to Saturn in the 2nd. Essentially, a lack of financial security may limit you from spending as much time with friends as you would like. You might have to make a hard decision between socializing and wasting money or saving up for practical matters.

Your fear of looking stupid is holding you back, Capricorn

Capricorn Rising

With Mercury Retrograde in your 11th house, there may be some tension between you and your friends. Your friendships may be undergoing a transformation at this time or secrecy, miscommunication or drama in your relationships may be helping you to figure out who your true friends are. As a Capricorn, you are known for being responsible and self-contained. But with Uranus transiting your 5th house, you may have more of an urge to have fun and express yourself creatively. It's possible you may receive judgement from your friends or feel like they don't understand you. Mercury also rules your 6th and 9th houses so there may also be disagreements or secrecy relating to your friends' health, education or belief systems. For example, you and your friends may disagree on COVID-19 protocol.

On October 27th, Mercury Retrograde will enter your 10th house of career and reputation and receiving a square from Saturn in your 1st house. You may be a very ambitious and career-orientated person. However, depending on what field you work in, too much seriousness or self-containment can actually hurt your career, especially if you work a job that requires good social skills. You may currently come off as so morose and serious, or just plain self-critical, that it negatively impacts your interactions with co-workers or clients. You may feel the need to re-evaluate what it is you really want to be doing in life.

Create the life your heart desires, Aquarius

Aquarius Rising

With Mercury Retrograde in your 10th house, your career may come under review. With Mercury ruling your 5th of pleasure & 8th house of loss or fear, you may be questioning whether your career is one that actually brings you joy, or if it's one that causes you more anxiety than it is worth. Your public image or reputation may be undergoing a transformation as well. As an Aquarius, you're known for your creativity and innovation, and you may do better in a job that allows you to express that side of yourself than a 9-5 office gig. With Mercury Retrograde opposing Uranus in the 4th house, stress or chaos on the home front may be preventing you from performing your best at work.

With Mercury entering Libra on the 27th, things may improve for you somewhat, but they won't be without challenge. Mercury will be in your 9th house, the house associated with travel, education and belief systems. You may have a change of heart regarding some matter, and you might be questioning what it is you really value or belief at this time. With Saturn in the 12th squaring Mercury here, it's possible some limitation in life, maybe a traumatic event or time spent in some type of confinement, has caused you to lose some of the optimistic ideals you once held onto. Travel or education plans may be delayed and you may feel confined, limited, oppressed or isolated in some way. This time is best spent getting in touch with your spiritual side and figuring out what it is you really believe at heart, as well as planning for what you might want to do once Mercury goes Direct.

Your beliefs are expanding but you may have to walk that path alone, Pisces

Pisces Rising

You are known for your spirituality and sixth sense, Pisces, and when Mercury goes Retrograde in your 9th house, there may be a transformation in regards to your belief system. Your sense of spirituality may deepen. With Mercury opposite Uranus in the 3rd, enlightening conversations with others may lead to sudden changes in what you value or belief. New ideas and insights may flash into your head like lightening. Since Mercury rules your 4th and 7th houses, it's possible you may have a conflict or misunderstanding with a family member or your partner over a change in your beliefs. Sudden changes in relation to education or travel plans are also likely and the people in your life may or may not be supportive. Either way, you've got to do what's best for you.

When Mercury enters Libra on October 27th, things may get a little bit more challenging. Mercury will be entering your 8th house of loss or fear and square Saturn in the 11th house of friends or hopes and dreams. You may come to the realization that negative thinking patterns are holding you back from fulfilling your hopes and dreams or developing healthy friendships. You may have to let go of some toxic ways of thinking or behaving. You might also have to say goodbye to friends who don't have your best interests at heart. On the other hand, it might also be a good time to reconnect or make amends with a friend who you lost touch with.

Conclusion

Essentially, this Mercury Retrograde period is asking us to go within and dig deep before making any major decisions. There may be miscommunication in relationships, either out of secrecy and paranoia (Scorpio) or fear of saying the wrong thing and getting others upset (Libra). The Libra period (Oct 27th-November 3rd) may be especially challenging due to Mercury's square to Saturn. But if we do our best to communicate clearly, this period should go well for us. Mercury's opposition to Uranus shows sudden and unexpected changes in the way we think and communicate. It may reveal sudden and unexpected truths and secrets. Confessions may come pouring out and lies will get exposed. However, this Mercury Retrograde period is actually good for relationships, overall, because it is sextile both the Moon and Venus in Virgo. In spite of all it's challenges, people may find it easier to be affectionate and express their feelings, and reconciliations are likely. There may also be a transformation in our thought patterns or the way we communicate and a re-prioritizing of what we really value.
