'The Mandalorian' Season 1 VFX Breakdown Video Is Available Online

Believe it or not, The Mandalorian has arguably become the biggest thing in Star Wars universe, as well as the most expensive TV series that has been produced. The Mandalorian became a huge success as the first live-action Star Wars TV series with overwhelmingly positive reviews from the critics and fans as its first season aired from November to December 2019.

The Mandalorian season 2, which will be premiering this October, was lucky enough to dodge COVID-19 production shutdown. While The Mandalorian season 3 is apparently on schedule, we still have to wait for the second season to premiere first on Disney+.

The Mandalorian series is not just one of the most highly-anticipated shows of the past couple years, but also the most expensive series ever produced, with a high level production budget, standout production design and visual effects, which are equal to any of the Star Wars films. Some of the episodes still used the old traditional methods, including puppets and such, especially when it came to The Child, also known all over the internet as "Baby Yoda."

Ahead of the premiere of The Mandalorian season 2, fans of Star Wars are now able to be thrilled by watching this outstanding behind the scenes VFX production video from Pixomondo, which may keep the excitement high. Pixomondo is one of the visual effects companies behind The Mandalorian. They have released a behind the scene VFX video breaking down how exactly the iconic landscapes and creatures were created for The Mandalorian season 1. It is mind-blowing to see how they were created. Watch it here:

The video shows how incredible the VFX work are, showing the large scale of the production. It is literally equal to Star Wars films in that it pushes boundaries like no other TV shows have ever done. Disney really invested big time on this show, which shows a lot of effort. As the Marvel Studios has done with the MCU, we can see the same techniques where the actors were in the studio with a large scale of space and green screens and blue screens to render CGI backdrops in the final cut. As we can see in the video, some techniques are comparable to the podrace in Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace, with the actors sitting in the pod with wires hooked up to the ceiling with blue screen backdrops. Of course, they had to build the pod. However, the famous The Mandalorian transport ship, the Razor Crest, was all completely computer-generated. They shot the actor in front of the green screen and then added him coming out from the ship after it was created digitally.

These technical processes of The Mandalorian has a huge difference in its production process compared to any other TV series ever produced. It is amazing how Disney and Lucasfilm have treated this like a big budget film, which we could see as eight episodes that make up a film that lasts over five hours. The settings seen in The Mandalorian were created completely in post via CGI. Most of The Mandalorian is created digitally, which may cause fans to remember how Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones started using nothing but digital VFX halfway through the production. Many cast and crew spoke highly about The Mandalorian production, how it was incredible process of working with this new technology with CGI landscapes and creatures.

The Mandalorian season 2 premieres on Disney+ on October 30.
