"The Magician". Collage. Auraborrows print.

For as long as I can remember, Tarot cards have been a key part of my life. When I was really stuck on a decision or was just overwhelmed by everything going on in my life, I would be encouraged to refer to the cards.

At New Years in 2020, I spent my time collaging and making my own deck of tarot card prints (which are now available for purchase too!) I focused on the major arcana: the first 22 cards of any classic tarot deck that represent an overarching situation or experience in your life. Around that time too, I began recording the tarot readings I did for myself every new and full moon. I would record notes in a small journal and reflect on it at a later date to see what applied and how I could interpret the cards. This helped me to be able to read cards better for my clients in private readings, but I also thought it may be useful to share what I've learned; Now, over two years later, I can pass on my knowledge to new tarot users who may be getting confused or frustrated as they try and figure out what their cards mean.

So let's get into the major arcana cards, shall we?

THE MAGICIAN

The Magician is the second card of the tarot, but it is understood as card #1. Numbers carry a lot of meaning in tarot and if you're into numerology you may find a fair amount of crossover. The number one represents innovation, independence, and possibilities. Think of the number 1, and likewise, the Magician as the one who takes action to make something out of nothing. In reverse, you may not be taking action, or perhaps there is someone deceitful pulling at some strings to create obstacles for you.

While it is important to consider what The Magician card may be paired with, it is important we have a good understanding of the dynamic the card has. (Please note that this analysis is based on my own recordings. While they may help you to better understand what your deck is telling you, if you feel that the card represents something else to you, trust your own intuition.)

When upright, The Magician is a reminder that you have the power to create your reality, you may have more power over a situation than you realize. You have natural skills and are resourceful in your ways to make things come about, and now is the time to use those powers.

The Magician card can also represent a moment of "magic" however you may define it in your own life, that comes as a result of something you set into place before. This may have come about as the background work of manifestation that you were working toward subconsciously. Ultimately, with the Magician, this card reminds you of your ability to take control and to take action on creating something for yourself.

When the card is reversed you may be feeling stifled in your ability to control things in your life, or you may feel like you can't get started on something. There are blockages in your path to success and creating that you may have put in your own way, or you may be doubting your connections and resources.

Alternatively, when reversed, the Magician may represent someone in your life who may not have the best intentions at heart. More cards in your reading can narrow this aspect down more, but in this circumstance you may be urged to observe how others have been acting around you lately.

The Magician ultimately asks us to harness our power and resourcefulness to create our reality, or to observe the ways in which others may be working against us. How will you take command of your life and create magic?
