Vitalia and Pyralis
He put me behind him as the assailants came closer. I clung to his shirt a bit in fear, as the assailants came closer to attack him. Their swords were made of pure silver and blessed by priests from the nearby temple. If they made contact with him, I feared I would lose him on that very night. This monster, as they called him, was the very reason I keep going. Everything I chose in life led me to this moment.

Six PLANETARY SCIENCES WAS THE WORST CLASS! I wasn’t prone to falling asleep in class, but this class couldn’t keep me engaged. It was part the material, and possibly a bigger part, the teacher. Mrs. Epans spoke with a dull monotone through each lecture. She was short, stocky, with a sharp angular haircut that was at the length that allowed her black curtains of hair to cover her ears. She wore big ridiculous glasses that magnified her eyes about five times. She was quite comical to look at, but once the giddiness of that faded, it was hard not to hop on the train to Snoozeville.

Braith awoke with a start. The sudden jolt sent shocks of pain throughout his entire body. A steady pounding beat mercilessly at the inside of his skull.

It was less than one week until the festival of Kokkini, nearly two months since Edric had arrived back in Mayel, and for the first time, he felt as though a weight had lifted from him.

Several weeks passed since the incident and I was slowly figuring out the new normal. The Academy cracked down on the security of their procedures, requiring every newcomer to undergo a psychological examine before they could be enrolled, along with tighter security everywhere.

Four: Flashback SUMMERS COULD GET REALLY HOT IN ROG’NAB. And disgustingly humid after the daily rains that foreshadowed hightide. That was why we were all sitting around shirtless, in fishscale shorts, or in Toad’s case; a swimmer’s thong. We’d just gotten done riding squids through the obstacle trails. They were basically abandoned construction sites laced with giant concrete tunnels and some half-built clay structures that our squids could weave in and out of.

I went to the mountain to find gold. I found much more than that with the incidents that altered my life. It was a beautiful spring day in the mountains. The sun was shining brightly and birds were singing all around me as I picked my way through the trees. It was a beautiful sight and I had never been more excited in my life. I had spent all morning gathering the materials to build my camp for the day, and I was getting ready for a good meal and sleep.

Two aliens share relaxation mist drugs while watching the holo stage before them. They are much better looking than most slimy extraterrestrials—at least in their human form. Vacationing here, on Maui, they look like any other hominids, except perhaps of higher status. Let’s say Brad Pitt/Harry Styles types. They don’t seem any worse than those already ruling the earth, so what’s the big deal? Could be an improvement. They watch the show. We watch the show.

Three TRENCH WAS SITTING WITH ME! <Fuck!> I had moved my bag out of the way for him! What was I thinking!? I could feel Sail and his henchfish grow excited. Now they had more material, more ammunition against me. “I’m sorry, is this seat taken?” Trench asked, half-sitting.

Two <JUST SIT IN THE FIRST EMPTY SEAT! Ignore the back. Don’t look towards the back! Just ignore the back.> My mantra fell on deaf ears. I looked at the back.

One SEVENTH GRADE SUCKS! Had I known seventh grade was going to be so different from sixth grade, I would have stayed home. I stood at the end of the sandy driveway, barefoot, waiting for the bus. My desperate attempt at iridescent fishscale trousers were a dull hand-me-down from one of my cousins that lived in Aspen. Too much time had passed and the sparkle the scales once held were failing me now. “They are nearly years ahead the fashion trend in Aspen,” my mother had said as I grumpily put the trousers on. They were tight, and fit well, but they didn’t shine with a kaleidoscope of colors like what was popular. Just one more thing to get made fun of about at school. <Ugh! Seventh grade…>
