Eléni & M Move to Athens - Part 12
This new series has its history in the form of several short stories, several poems, and a 13-part series that is linked at the bottom via Part 11 of this series. Anthi Psomiadou has graciously agreed—she is sweet—to reprise her role from the first series as a fictional character also called, Anthi. These series have become The Fellowship of Athena (the real Anthi proposed to call it a fellowship). I wonder if there will also be a ring or something even more precious. As you set out for Ithaca, hope your road is a long one, full of adventure, full of discovery. Konstantinos Kavafis

Walking down the street wasn’t something Jai was comfortable with anymore. Actually, just being outside didn’t feel comfortable anymore. He tried to remember the last time he’d ventured out. It wasn’t that long ago…was it?

The smell of smoke and fire reminded me where I was. Shaking my head to clear it of delusions of happiness, I looked around. It won’t do to reminisce on better times. I had to find food. I crawled out from underneath my makeshift shelter, that in reality was just a half-burned building. My hands flew to my neck to make sure the locket was still there. I sighed in relief when my hands brushed against the cool metal. The only thing that remained of my family was this heart-shaped locket. I still wasn’t entirely sure what was in it, I hadn’t opened it yet. I couldn’t bring myself to.

This new series has its history in the form of several short stories, several poems, and a 13-part series that is linked at the bottom via Part 10 of this series. Anthi Psomiadou has graciously agreed—you must believe it by now—to appear as the fictional character, Anthi Kanéna, in this new series, a character perhaps representing ideals which may not always correspond to those of the real Anthi, though only fleetingly, so it seems. Since we cannot change reality, let us change the eyes which see reality. Nikos Kazantzakis

Running was not something Sharine’s family did. Her uncle instilled that in her. After a dozen years of putting freebooters, marauders, and asteroid miners in their proper place she proved she had little to run from.

His senses began to return. He could firstly smell the dust from the gravel and then felt his face pressed against the small stones of the roadside. His vision cleared and he sat up and surveyed himself. Blood leaked from a small gash on his elbow. It looked black in the bleak light of late afternoon. At eight years old he was all too accustomed to the sight of it. Often when he fell he would sustain some injury or other, and these days he was falling much more regularly. Sometimes he could go a full day without an incident, other days he would collapse unexpectedly to the ground, shaking like some external force had control of his limbs, his face grimacing, eyes tightly shut.

There was a time when people didn’t see us. We just happened to them. One time they were breathing; at other times, they gasped for air until their lungs no longer had it. Life happened to people; so did we.

He didn’t know why he was looking for it, it was probably lost some days ago. He was digging in his pack for the plastic rimmed mirror when he noticed the absence of the thin golden chain. The braided necklace would routinely be tangled amongst his trifles making retrieving items difficult. The locket probably wasn’t worth much of anything. He wasn’t even sure if it was real gold. He had found it several months ago while searching for food in an unexplored house. Curiously, when he examined the pictures on the walls, none of the women matched the oval photo inside the heart-shaped pendant. She was an older woman, maybe in her sixties, though she still had a spark of youth in her eyes. He supposed she reminded him of his mother. It had been several years since he had thought of his family.

It was hard to imagine a time where books were readily available to everyone. They had banned them about the same time the personal AI had been assigned to every citizen. It was considered a crime to read and was punishable by banishment to the outlands. The patrol did regular sweeps to make sure everyone was adhering to the law. Karma watched as they tore through her room to find even a scrap of paper. They wouldnt find anything, she knew better since she'd seen her parents banished. She just fidgeted with her necklace and watched on. Once they had sufficiently scoured her pod, they nodded and shoved by her to pick their next victim.

We face many problems as we drive on the roads. In the Rural areas there is the big problems of the dead animals in the road. One lady began to cry as her dropped her jewelry and her wedding ring in the golden bag. I forget to mention the bag was glowing. The car was all driverless and the road were crowded, it was bumper to bumper travel. The people were passenger only and some higher force was steering the wheels. Next all the cars are lined up in the desert on the vacant land. There is a large screen, anchored in the sand, similar to the old fashion drive-in theaters. The scene comes on and it said, “Greeting to all”. You than see happiness scenes the scene and young kids playing video games. On the screen is a man dressed in all white standing with a cane for support. Then you will see scenes of people search the golden bag, and the man in white makes an announcement. We found the heart shaped Locket worn by Abraham Lincolns mothers, inside it bears the picture of he and his mom. The newfound locket is heart shaped but it very old and rusty. Then the picture on the screen lets down in each car and some questions appear. A universal video game challenges each to person. All the car doors locked simultaneously. The parents turn to the children to play the games. To survive after the three days, you must win the game and break the code. All are concentrating then suddenly cars start exploding. As they hit wrong answer, they lose the life challenge. Many of the cars are blowing up and humans melt away. Finally, a ten- year- old boy breaks the curse and beats the game. Doomsday is over. All who survived are directed and their car begin to drive the survivor home. As they head home a lot of dead bodies are one the road. Once they are home the recent news shows the largest video came in the world had been won and all still alive will remain on the earth. Those problems on the road were over. The locket was used as a international secret weapon that once you open than a hologram come out and can speak. Yes, the hologram is alive and can speak. That Locket was transported to the Presidents office. The roads were narrow, and few were on that road that lead to life.

It does not matter what you may have in common, that you may be family. It does not matter that you're only 10 years old. People run on hate. It is a virus. Only a few have not caught it. She has been my friend for years and she married. Now her husband became one of the Thorns and she lives in hiding just like the rest of us. If she still is alive I do not know but the only way we are allowed to speak to the few roses in the world is via the water. A message in a bottle. Everyone has a specific bottle and this is our network. We all have an alias. My friends alias is Lullaby. And mine is Dreamer. I have to sit and wait until night when the Thorns have moved on and taken their victims with them to eat or use the bones for various uses .
