5: Han Solo

Although Han was really only in one movie, his presence was felt throughout the trilogy, both figuratively and literally. The movie that he was in felt more like a Star Wars movie than any other in the trilogy, largely due to the fact that Han Solo's charm and charisma are what life-long fans correlate with Star Wars. If he had played a larger role in this trilogy, he would have likely been higher on this list. I will also say that my favorite scene in the trilogy included Han. Of course, this scene is the scene he shared with his son, Ben Solo, in The Rise of Skywalker. Whether it was actually Han himself or a projection that Leia created in the force, I couldn’t ask for a better final straw to redeem Ben once and for all.

4: Poe Dameron

I can see Poe as a version of this generation's Han Solo, but it isn't easy to fill those shoes. I enjoyed Poe's role in this trilogy, but I felt like the writers could've done better with this character, especially in The Last Jedi. I felt like the only impact he had in that film was noticing that the Crystal Critters had found a way to escape the cave. Not the best plotline to give to one of your key characters if you ask me. It also would've been nice if they included him a little more in The Force Awakens. He has great chemistry with the other characters and provides some good comic relief here and there. (The flashlight moment in The Rise of Skywalker always gets me).

3: Rey

I love Rey as a character. She is constantly seeking answers to questions she doesn't even know to ask. She doesn't want to get involved, she's scared of letting go of her past, but just like Luke, she persevered and became something that the galaxy desperately needed; hope. I liked the twist that revealed her as Palpatine's granddaughter. It sends the message that we are not who came before us. We have the choice to be who we want to be. "Let the past die. Kill it if you have to."

2: Finn

How can you not love Finn? In a way, he is just like Rey. He doesn't want to be the type of person he has been told to be since he was a child, so he chooses his own path. He chooses to fight for the good of the galaxy rather than be used as a weapon to drive it into fear and chaos. What I love the most about this character is his well-developed character arc. He goes from being a stormtrooper to abandoning that life and becoming his own man, to fighting for the resistance for the better of the galaxy. LOVE IT!

1: Kylo Ren

I love this character for the same reasons I love Darth Vader. He was failed by the person he looked up to the most, which led him to the dark side. While his mind was flooded with hate, he was in constant conflict with himself, just like his grandfather. He finally comes around and helps Rey defeat the emperor, again, just like his grandfather did with Luke. In my personal opinion, the perfect redemption arc in any form of entertainment is concluded with the selfless act of sacrifice, especially for the ones who you have previously wronged. The message that can be taken from this character is that we are not always too far gone. There is always a chance to turn away from our shortcomings and learn from them.
