'Star Wars': Rahul Kohli Hints At Playing Ezra Bridger

With Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker having closed out the Skywalker saga at the end of last year, and The Clone Wars animated series having wrapped up in May of this year, Star Wars has been full of endings lately, without a lot of new beginnings. Luckily, The Mandalorian season 2 is set to premiere at the end of this month, but unfortunately, newer Star Wars shows and films will not be debuting for awhile. However, that does not mean that we cannot look forward to them, and especially speculate about what new content is coming down the pipeline.

In January of next year, Lucasfilm will premiere their newest venture, The High Republic, which will explore a new era of Star Wars history through books, comics, and more. Taika Waititi is working on his Star Wars film (which we probably will not see until 2023 at the earliest), and Disney+ shows like The Bad Batch, the untitled Cassian Andor show, and the untitled Obi-Wan Kenobi show are in the works as well. Fans have been speculating about what storylines these series might explore and what other characters may be introduced, and a certain actor recently stirred up excitement over the possibility of him joining the Star Wars world.

iZombie actor Rahul Kohli sent a tweet that stirred up the Star Wars fandom:

He followed it up by saying "Seriously, for no particular reason," but the damage was already done. Fans took this news and ran with it, speculating about the possibility of Ezra Bridger joining the Star Wars live-action universe, either in The Mandalorian or in a new show. For those who are not aware, Ezra was a Jedi Padawan and revolutionary leader during the early rebellion against the Empire, appearing in the animated show Star Wars Rebels.

Once fans latched onto Kohli's tweets, the actor backpedaled, stating that he was "just goofing around," indicating that this does not mean anything definitive about his Star Wars casting. While this might be disappointing, the actor bears somewhat of a resemblance to the character, and he has made it very clear that he is interested in taking on the role.

This is not the first time that speculation has arisen over the potential of Ezra Bridger joining the live-action Star Wars universe. Kohli, as well as Ezra's voice actor Taylor Gray and actor Mean Massoud, have all expressed interest in playing the character on Twitter.

Considering strong rumors about characters like Sabine Wren, Rex, and Boba Fett joining the live-action universe alongside Rosario Dawson's Ahsoka Tano, it only makes sense that Ezra's name would be brought up as well as a potential addition. After all, at the end of Rebels, Ahsoka and Sabine were searching for a missing Ezra, which would fit perfectly into the timeline established with The Mandalorian, which takes place after Rebels and the fall of the Empire.

All in all, it seems like Rahul Kohli is not set to play Ezra Bridger, but we can keep hoping. While it is possible that the tweets were a violation of some kind of Disney agreement and that he is actually set to take on the role, nothing is official, and we will not find out until Disney officially announces casting. It is, however, fun to speculate, and Kohli would be a great choice for Ezra. After all, he clearly has the enthusiasm and the looks, and he has a substantial following after his involvement in Rooster Teeth's Funhaus, the CW show iZombie, and Netflix's upcoming The Haunting of Bly Manor.

No matter what the case is, we are very much looking forward to The Mandalorian season 2, and we are excited for any amount of Rebels references we can get. It is exciting that Star Wars is looking to tie together more and more of the franchise by involving characters from the animated shows in live-action. Surely, we can expect more of that on the horizon.
