Will We See Vader In 'Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order?'

Should He Be In The Game?

With the upcoming Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2, fans are hoping that the developer will correct the biggest narrative mistakes with the surprise encounter of Darth Vader the first Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order game, which has restored Star Wars fans' faith on the future of Star Wars video game. The events of the Skywalker saga have tended to revolve around Darth Vader as he is the biggest icon for the entire intellectual property.

Arguably, Vader's cameo is what went wrong in the first Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order game. I would argue that it cannot compare with the treatment of Darth Vader in the ending of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, where he came out with his red lightsaber, slicing through the shadowy steel corridor and killing all the rebellions, that gave the best, possibly finest moment ever in Star Wars history. It effectively established him as the most powerful and implacable Darth Vader’s power and history. But in the game, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Darth Vader’s surprise entrance might be considered one of the weakest entrances in Star Wars history. Some Star Wars fans were disappointed as the story and the plot were very predictable with his abrupt arrival, making things feel like a rushed and easy end to Trilla’s arc, where Cal has no time to mourn Trilla since he has to get out for his life. This is nothing compared with the serious flaw where Cere and Cal manage to escape without any consequences, where admittedly, Cere must go back to her dark side to manage it. Since Cal escaped from Vader, the threat has been diminished. Hopefully, in the second Star Wars Jedi: The Fallen Order, we may see more of Cal growing more powerful in the Force even as hope continues to dwindle.

Assuming that the video game sequel picks up in the same era as the first one, which left off with Cal and company unable to settle their score with Darth Vader. His encounter was frustrating. For one, players might want to try and beat Vader, but that cannot happen canonically. Players can escape Vader, but that undermines the menace of the villain a bit. So, in the sequel, the best move would be to have a different villain in place of Vader. Hopefully, Cal can have his own arch nemesis. He needs one to pose a unique threat to his quest. With an open conclusion, this could be manifested in different ways. Creating an arch nemesis that has a personal connection with Cal, similar to Trilla’s connection with Cere, would be a great option. Cal could face off against the former Padawan comrade. Taron Malicos gave us a look at what an evil Jedi looks like without even having a prior introduction. He was a full-on dark side user. Perhaps even the “wound in the Force” concept could lead to the featuring of more monstrous dark-sider such as Knight of the Old Republic 2’s Darth Nihilus. With this concept, we might even be able to see an opportunity to explore the dark side of the Empire. Especially with the somewhat large number of Jedi that had escaped Order 66, this option seems inevitable. Another interesting and tempting possibility would be for Respawn to include a popular familiar villain such as Darth Maul or Grand Admiral Thrawn.

We do not know anything about Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2 plot-wise, but eager players can start looking for clues and speculation to comb through the game's secrets. It is currently in development, but there is no official release date yet.
