Sabine Wren Voice Actress Thanks 'Star Wars' Fans For Support In Playing Live-Action Role

The Light Side Of Fandom

Thanks to the success of The Mandalorian, Lucasfilm and Disney seem to have worked out the formula for making well-liked and successful TV shows based on stories and characters from the galaxy far, far away. They have also managed to bring some fan favorite characters from the animated shows to live-action, most popular of which was Ahsoka Tano in Season 2 of The Mandalorian. In the last week alone, we've also heard rumors of castings for live-action versions of the characters Grand Admiral Thrawn and Ezra Bridger, as well as another character reportedly ready to make the jump from the cartoons: Sabine Wren.

Sabine was one of the main characters from the show Rebels, which is set in the few years before the events of A New Hope. She was voiced by the very talented Tiya Sircar, and the character is expected by fans to show up in the upcoming Ahsoka series. Naturally, many fans took to social media and wanted to let the world know they only wanted one person to play the part, the person who has voiced her since her creation. Makes sense, right?

Social media, as per usual, has seen many rumors flying around regarding actresses apparently being shortlisted for the role, and sadly Sircar, hasn't been on many of them. Sircar has voiced the animated character throughout the entire run of Rebels and even reprised the role for episodes of the animated web series Forces of Destiny, so she knows the character well and seems like the most obvious choice, especially seeing as how Lars Mikkelsen is all but confirmed to play the live-action Grand Admiral Thrawn, a character he voiced in Rebels.

Having said that, voicing a character does not necessarily mean you'll automatically get a shot at a live-action role. (*cough* Ahsoka *cough*) Many thought it would be a no-brainer for Ashely Eckstein to play the live-action Ahsoka, considering she has voiced her in pretty much all of her animated appearances. However, despite a very big backlash, Rosario Dawson was cast instead. Dawson actually went on to receive a lot of praise for her portrayal and proves someone else can fill the shoes.

Nevertheless, Sircar has noticed the attention she has received recently from fans wanting her to get the part, and tweeted a very humbling reply sharing her love for all those who have done so. You can check it out below:

Sabine becomes quite an important character in Rebels, and we learn her hatred for the Empire comes from her role in designing Imperial weapons for them. We also learn she is actually part of Clan Vizla and wins the Darksaber in combat. This allows her to become leader of Mandalore, but she turns it down and bestows it upon Bo-Katan Kryze instead, hoping to unite the clans of Mandolore. It's also worth noting, she becomes extremely close to Ezra Bridger, so with it being pretty much confirmed he will be showing up in Ahsoka, it makes sense for Sabine to turn up too.

A lot of story elements from Rebels have been adapted within The Mandalorian. During her appearance in Season 2, Ahsoka confirms she is on the hunt for Thrawn, who was last seen being taken into hyperspace with Ezra Bridger. With Sabine being so close to Ezra, it's possible she is also on her own hunt, which could lead to her and Ahsoka coming face to face and possibly team up together, as seen at the very end of Rebels. As it stands at the moment, though, it's still anyone's guess as to who will get the part in the end. But the fact many fans want it and Sircar herself is so appreciative of the fans... Maybe she deserves a shot?

What do you think? Should Tiya Sircar get the opportunity to play her animated role in live-action? Or would you like to see someone else get the role? Be sure to let us know.

Until next time!
