Take A Look

After several years, The Mandalorian season 2 finally brought the live-action debut of an extremely popular character: Ahsoka Tano. Made popular by the hit series Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels, Ahsoka Tano was first played by Ashley Eckstein in this animated branch of Star Wars. Ahsoka Tano is now being played by Rosario Dawson in the live-action branch of Star Wars, and her debut in The Mandalorian season 2 did not disappoint at all.

When season 2 started, fans were on the edge of their seats waiting for the arrival of Ahsoka Tano who was rumored to be a part of this season of The Mandalorian. When "Chapter 13: The Jedi" arrived, they finally got their wish when, within the first two minutes of the episode, we see an epic battle sequence and Ahsoka Tano prominently displaying an amazing lightsaber showcase. Ahsoka Tano was officially part of the live-action Star Wars universe.

When Mando and “Baby Yoda” arrive on Corvus in search of the rumored Jedi, they find Ahsoka, who gives Mando many answers concerning The Child and his past. We finally learn The Child’s name, Grogu, and learn that he had been in the Jedi temple on Coruscant before the fall of the Republic and the subsequent takeover of the Empire. We also learn that while he can sometimes use the Force, he has gone through so much trauma since training in the Temple that he has hidden much of his abilities deep inside. Since Grogu has formed a connection with Mando, and because of his latent abilities, Ahsoka tells Mando that she cannot train him. She instead suggests that Grogu be brought to Tython to perhaps find the answers that they seek.

On Twitter, Disney+ officially unveiled a new promotional character poster for The Mandalorian, which features Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano front and center.

The poster features the fearless look of the former Jedi that Ahsoka that Rosario Dawson so clearly captured. It also features the shorter head tails, which bothered some fans. But the concept designer Bryan Matyas clarified that the shorter head tails were needed in the live-action design due to Dawson’s ability to do stunts and movements as the character. When converting an animated character to live-action, sometimes modifications are needed, especially if fight scenes are involved.

The poster also provides a more detailed look at the live-action character design of Ahsoka Tano’s intricate outfit and makeup design.

In the episode, it is revealed that Ahsoka Tano is on the hunt for Grand Admiral Thrawn. However, the reason behind her pursuit is unclear. Given that we are not sure whether "Chapter 13: The Jedi" takes place before or after the epilogue of Star Wars: Rebels, the possibilities of her future involvement in The Mandalorian or her own live-action series are endless.

If the latest episode of The Mandalorian happened before the epilogue of Star Wars: Rebels, then it is safe to say that the next step would lead to Ahsoka and Sabine’s reunion, setting the stage for their quest to find Grand Admiral Thrawn in the Unknown Regions and rescue the long lost Ezra Bridger. If, however, "Chapter 13: The Jedi" happened after the epilogue of Rebels, then it does not bode well for Ahsoka’s allies. It could be that Ahsoka’s search for Grand Admiral Thrawn is seeded in revenge or perhaps a rescue mission to save both Ezra and Sabine after potentially being captured by the Chiss Grand Admiral.

If anything, the open-ended questions at the end of "Chapter 13: The Jedi" definitely pave the way for Ahsoka’s inclusion in The Mandalorian and a long-rumored live action Ahsoka Tano series. In either case, many of the answers above will be answered, and the epic of the interconnected stories will continue.

Whether or not we will see her in the rest of this season of The Mandalorian remains to be seen. In the meantime, this new character poster should serve as a reminder of Ahsoka Tano’s big live-action debut and hint at the former Jedi’s future in live-action Star Wars sagas.
