Even in the months since the shutdown due to the pandemic, Disney chose not to quit on The Mandalorian season 2 marketing, which continued to spread all around the world once it rolled out. There was so much hype due to rumor about a potential spin-off for Ahsoka Tano starring Rosario Dawson. A report had also said that the fan favorite would be portrayed by her in an episode in The Mandalorian season 2.

Ahsoka Tano was first introduced as Anakin Skywalker's Jed Padawan in the 2008 animated movie Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which grossed $68 Million worldwide, and the subsequent hit animated TV series that recently got the ending that it deserved after seven seasons over the course of 12 years. Ahsoka Tano has also appeared in the hit 3D-animated TV series Star Wars Rebels, where she used the codename Fulcrum. Her first appearance of sorts in the live-action Star Wars media was in Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker, where she had a voice-over cameo appearance by the original Ahsoka Tano voice actress, Ashley Eckstein, who had voiced Ahsoka in all of her animated appearances. Well, as we knew, we got confirmation that the rumor was true about a month ago. Star Wars fans got super excited the closer they got to this event coming true. Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka Tano appears to serve a role in an episode that may be a backdoor pilot into her own live-action series.

The long rumored casting of Ahsoka Tano had been a huge topic across the glove, and that rumor turned out to be true as actress Rosario Dawson portrayed the fan favorite. Disney and Lucasfilm had never released any promo images of Rosario Dawson as the fan favorite. Nobody had leaked any footage that really confirmed it. No first image, not even a behind the scenes clip about Ahsoka Tano, nothing, until this past Friday when Disney+ dropped the latest episode of The Mandalorian season 2 titled “Chapter 13: The Jedi,” which featured the fan favorite. The episode did not just unveil the live-action iteration of Ahsoka Tano, but also introduced the name of another fan favorite, The Child. Furthermore, it fueled speculation regarding another prominent Star Wars figure, Grand Admiral Thrawn. We might be seeing him in the future episodes or even in season three of The Mandalorian.

It all started when a fan that tweeted at Rosario Dawson asking if she would ever play the fan favorite Jedi, who, at the point, had only been in the animated series. Dawson responded with, “Ummmm… yes please?! #AhsokaLives #AhsokaTano #StarWars.” After that, the internet went crazy, causing a stir within the fan community about the possibility of a live-action Ahsoka Tano. As we can tell, Lucasfilm noticed that. Dawson spoke in an interview for StarWars.com:

"There was so much material to work from. I think that was definitely a huge benefit for me. I was marathoning the show from beginning to the end, putting in the movies. It was really fun to see how Ahsoka’s physically changed, and her facial expressions changed, and her voice and her tenor changed as she just evolved.”

“It was just interesting playing with an amalgamation of all that. I wanted to kind of have some of her playfulness and her fun – the cocky eyebrow thing that she does. You know that she’s got that feistiness. You know that she’s willing to push the rules a little bit in order to get what needs to get done. But I also really like that she does have that wisdom. She’s gone through a lot. She’s really gone through things. And she’s grounded, more than when you first meet her as a young teen. It was really fun to find moments to throw homages to the different aspects to Ahsoka that I’ve loved.”

The new The Mandalorian season 2, "Chapter 13: The Jedi," just dropped Friday of last week. New episodes drop on Fridays on Disney+.
