On Tuesday, November 26th, only two days before Thanksgiving; we will have a New Moon at 4’03 degrees of the optimistic, philosophical and freedom-loving sign Sagittarius.

What is a New Moon?

A new moon represents the beginning of the lunar cycle when the moon is conjunct the sun and invisible to the human eye. New moons are a good time for fresh starts and new beginnings. It is a good time to start a new project or make a radical change. It's also a good time to find clarity on what you want, and release what no longer serves you. The effects of a new moon generally last for about two weeks, up until the next full moon.

With the New Moon in Sagittarius, we can expect new beginnings related to our philosophies, ideologies, and worldviews, as well as any education or travel plans.

It may be helpful to think back to what was going on in your life during the Full Moon in Taurus or the Full Moon in Sagittarius six months ago, for certain themes may be repeating themselves.

Whatever intentions you set now should come into fruition by the time of the Full Moon in Gemini on December 12th.

Those with any personal planets or angles between 0 to 10 degrees of the mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces) will most especially be affected by this New Moon.

New Moon in Sagittarius

Sagittarius is the sign of the centaur and the sign of an archer. Half-horse, half-man, with an arrow shooting upwards, Sagittarius is the medium between the bestial and the humane. Always searching for broader horizons, Sagittarius is a sign known for it's truth-seeking and freedom-loving nature. As archers, they are always aiming towards a higher vision, making them the archetypal teacher or philosopher of the zodiac. But as centaurs, there is a very animalistic side to Sagittarians as well, a side that values fun and humor at the expense of all else and doesn't want to take anything seriously. Ruled by Jupiter, the planet of expansion, Sagittarius can over-do it sometimes, acting on impulse without considering the consequences, and though generally known for its candid honesty; on the flip side, Sagittarius can also overlook the details. In mythology, centaurs were fierce and war-like creatures, and as fire signs, Sagittarius definitely has an angry side. In any case, Sagittarius is very passionate. Sagittarian energy functions best when it uses its passionate and fiery nature in pursuit of a genuinely higher cause, and not using philosophical platitudes as a mask for an anger that is more selfish and petty in nature. At its best, Sagittarius is a truth teller and a freedom fighter in champion of justice, and that is the archetype this New Moon most strongly embodies.

While 2019s New Moon in Sagittarius itself makes no major aspects, it will coincide with an exact opposition between Mars and Uranus, also at 4 degrees, but of the signs Scorpio an Taurus respectively.

Mars, the god of war in Roman mythology, is at home in the sign of Scorpio, where it functions more subtlety and strategically, than it does in the more brash and direct sign of Aries which it also rules. Generally, when placed in this fixed, water sign, Mars is obsessive, stopping at nothing in the pursuit of what it wants. But when opposite Uranus, this energy takes a more radical and revolutionary form. Much like the New Moon in Scorpio last month, the New Moon in Sagittarius will likely trigger major changes to existing systems and power dynamics, as more people become empowered to speak their truth and stand up for what they believe in. With Uranus in the sign of Taurus, economic and/or environmental issues will likely be the main focus.

On the flip side, the Mars-Uranus opposition might bring unexpected and disruptive changes to our personal lives as well. We might be more temperamental than usual, reacting at the most inappropriate times, and throwing childish temper tantrums. Be careful not to act like an asshole in the name of shock value or 'freedom of speech' and burn bridges with people who are important to you.

I think it's also worth noting that Venus will enter Capricorn that very same day. With the planet of love in this cardinal earth sign, relationships will take a more traditional and serious form than they did with Venus in Sagittarius. We might feel a sense of responsibility or obligation to the people in our lives. Be careful not to let other people's expectations weigh you down. On the bright side, with Venus in Capricorn, new relationships will be established, connections that were previously casual might become more defined. Venus in Capricorn also points to success in business, as we tend to get along better with our supervisors, and/or other people in the work place.

Conclusion

While the Uranus-Mars opposition indicates shocking events, troubling surprises, and potential disruptions, overall, I'd say this New Moon in Sagittarius is a very positive one, or at least has the potential to be. Sagittarius, a mutable fire sign ruled by Jupiter, is very optimistic and adaptable to change, always going with the flow of things, finding opportunity everywhere they go. As long as we embody this energy and optimistically roll with the changes, it should be a positive one. If you're normally a shy person or repressed in anyway, November 2019s New Moon in Sagittarius is a good time to break out of that, freeing yourself from life's shackles and finally speaking your truth.
