Remembering When Carrie Fisher Brutally Roasted George Lucas

Fond Memories Of The Princess

When the tragic passing of the much beloved Carrie Fisher was announced back in December 2016, the entire world went into mourning. Although she was best known for her role as Princess Leia in Star Wars, she was also a wonderful human being who was always up for a laugh and didn't take life too seriously, brightening up every room she entered. I remember the moment my phone gave me the notification of the news and feeling completely sad even though I obviously didn't know her personally. That's the effect she had on her fans.

Although a lot of time had passed since her first outing as Leia, she remained good friends with the original cast from the original trilogy, Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford, as well as with director George Lucas. Since the release of the original trilogy, a lot of behind the scenes information came out stating there was some tension and fall-outs. However, this didn't seem to cause any long term friction, and Fisher would go on to reprise the role of Leia in Disney's sequel trilogy. The biggest tragedy, of course, was the fact that the final film was set to put the spotlight on Leia, but her death sadly stopped this, and so we had to finally say goodbye to her beautiful Princess instead.

It has been almost five years since her passing, and not a day goes by where fans and her fellow cast mates don't remember her fondly. And on the anniversary of her death each year, fans from all over the world take to social media to share their love. But today, we are going to look back and remember the time she let loose on Star Wars creator George Lucas, showing just how funny she can be, definitely taking no prisoners.

Back in 2005, George Lucas was awarded the AFI Lifetime Achievement Award, a prestigious award given to individuals to honor their lifetime contribution to enriching American culture through motion pictures or television, and Fisher was invited to talk at the ceremony. Whilst Fisher would go on to state Lucas was a talent only seen "once in a generation," ever the joker, she couldn't resist throwing some shade at him as well. She made jokes at the fact her Star Wars mother "Queen Armadillo" was given a new costume and hairstyle in almost every scene, as well as sleeping with Lucas to get the part. Her speech was met with good humor and roars of laughter from the audience, showing she knew exactly how to perform for a crowd.

It's safe to say Carrie became somewhat typecast after Star Wars, appearing more in cameo or secondary roles throughout the rest of her career. Whenever you saw her, though, you immediately thought "Princess Leia." Whilst most actors dread being typecast in a specific role or genre, Carrie didn't seem to mind and actually used it to her strengths. The video of her speaking at the AFI awards, which you can view below, is just one of the many examples of times Carrie was able to poke fun at herself, her character, and the franchise as a whole, but all in good taste. It's also a reminder of the pure talent and the amazing human being we sadly lost, and will help ensure her legacy will continue to live on for many years to come.

Check the video out for yourself below and laugh one more time with our much loved and missed Carrie Fisher:
