'Men In Black: International' Official Trailer Breakdown!
Sorry. Will Smith was making YouTube Rewind.
2019 is gonna be a year filled to the top with great movies. While I fully intend to watch movies such as Avengers: Endgame and John Wick 3: Parabellum, another movie that I'm excited to watch has just had a new trailer.
The new trailer for Men In Black: International has just come out. This film is a spin-off of the original Men In Black trilogy starring Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones as secret agents who keep the Earth safe from alien invasions.
I'm a fan of the Men In Black movies (the second one, not really), and I decided to break down this trailer and examine it frame-by-frame to give information on the film and what we might be able to expect.
Let's do this!
We see here that part of the film will be taking place in London. From what we know about the film, it will follow a London-based team of MIB agents.
And we hear the voice of Liam Neeson's character say, "Always remember—the universe has a way of leading you to where you're supposed to be at the moment you're supposed to be there." We also see him on an investigation with Chris Hemsworth's character, Agent H.
Okay, I don't know what this scene is supposed to mean and what it has to do with aliens. If I had to take a wild guess, this is gonna be a scene that was made specifically for the trailer and won't actually be in the final movie.
That happens a lot.
If you look at the painting on the right in this picture, you can see that it depicts Agents J and K fighting the Bug in the big climax of the original Men In Black.
This means that the film must take place years after the original MIB, when the heroics of J and K are now legend.
In this shot, we see Tessa Thompson's character, Agent M, enter the famous MIB building in downtown Manhattan, NYC. Since she is teamed up with Chris Hemsworth on the London team, I assume that she transferred to help with the London branch.
From the narration, we can assume that Thompson has discovered the MIB, and wants desperately to become an agent. And if she's Agent M, I assume that means Michael Jackson never got to be Agent M.
Here, we see Emma Thompson as Agent O. She is reprising her role from Men In Black 3, and as her character now has white hair, this further solidifies that this movie will take place years after the original MIB trilogy.
As O took over from Zed as the leader of the US branch of the MIB, and we know that scenes take place in the old MIB headquarters, we may expect a cameo from J and/or K. We could see Frank the Pug as well, if none of them have retired, that is.
We hear O say, "We are a rumor, recognizable only as déjà vu, and dismissed just as quickly." Fans of the original trilogy would recognize that this is a reference to the speech Zed gives to Agent J in the original MIB.
Along with this, O should also be telling M to put on the last suit she'll ever wear.
Here, M turns and sees the Worm Guys from the original two MIB films. These sorry little ingrates were some of my favorite characters of the original trilogy.
I don't know about you, but I'd love to play Twister with these guys.
Agents H and M are together in this shot, teamed up to fix a situation in London. And I just have to say this, but Thor and Valkyrie have teamed up for the first time since Thor: Ragnarok.
I am a nerd.
Neeson's character says, "We've been compromised." This must mean that the villains of the film know about the identities of MIB agents and/or know where their headquarters are, putting MIB agents at risk.
And can I just say that Neeson has been a Jedi, he trained Batman, he saved Jews in World War II, and now, he's an MIB agent saving the world from alien invasions. F**k yeah.
Here, we see H and M in the middle of an action sequence where I assume they are shooting at aliens who have landed on Earth.
In this scene, we see that many civilians have witnessed their flying motorcycle and H pulls out a Neuralyzer to wipe their memories. And it is great to see that again.
And this looks like a really fun scene.
In this scene, H and M are in a car, and I assume they are either chasing some aliens or trying to get somewhere fast. They are trying to find a "big red button." M presses it and the car flies away.
This is an awesome reference to the tunnel scene in the original MIB, when J pushes the "little red button" which puts the car into hyperdrive.
And here, we see H fighting an alien, and he attempts to throw a hammer at the alien.
If you're as much of a nerd as I am, you'll know this is a reference to Chris Hemsworth's famous role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Thor, son of Odin, and throwing the hammer is a reference to Thor's signature weapon, a hammer known as Mjolnir, which he throws in a very similar way.
I can't wait for this film. I know this movie looks like a big cash-grab, but it looks like an awesome action-packed film with some good comedy and badass moments.
And I'm not gonna turn down a movie with Thor, Valkyrie, Professor Trelawney, Bryan Mills, and Ilsa Faust. But yeah, I think this movie should be okay.
