India's Gaganyaan mission, a significant milestone in the country's space exploration journey, aims to send humans into outer space by 2025. The four gaganyaans were selected from a pool of Air Force pilots and had undergone extensive physical and psychological tests before being shortlisted. They have undergone rigorous training for 13 months in Russia.
ISRO also introduced the robot that will be sent to space for a test on February 2024. The name of the robot is Vyommitra which is sanskrit word meaning 'space friend'.
If India succeeds in this mission, they become the fourth country to send human into space after Soviet union, US and China. The Gaganyaan mission holds immense importance for India on multiple fronts. Firstly, it signifies the nation's entry into the elite club of countries with human spaceflight capabilities, joining the United States, Russia, China, and Europe. Secondly, it will significantly boost India's space technology and research capabilities, allowing the country to contribute further to global space exploration efforts. In February 2021, the GSLV Mk III successfully launched the indigenously built GSAT-17 satellite, showcasing the vehicle's reliability and capability to carry heavier payloads. India has successfully developed its indigenous space suit, a crucial component for the Gaganyaan mission. The suit, designed to withstand extreme temperatures and pressures, has undergone extensive testing and is now ready for use by Indian astronauts during their space journey.
