3D printing has been defined as the future technology that will change the world for so many years and finally hard work paid off and the first commercial products are in the market with great advantages over the best competetive alternatives. This is an exciting moment that will change our lives for good.

When 3D printing is a focus on news, we are used to see scientist talking on plastic structures in an unusual shape for an application that will be lunched to market in "the future". This is not the case anymore. 3D printed products are entering the market which will change the way we live due to the ease of the process, short time requirements and the price advantages. It seemed before, building a house by printing is just a fantasy like the fiction movies but it is a reality now.

3D Housing will influence all of us because housing is our biggest expense!

Among all the 3D printing applications, the one that can influence to everyone's life is the 3D printed housing. The mortgage pay had been a burden for the majority of the society that almost doubles the house pay with a 30 years pay schedule such as a $300 000 house would cost you $500 000 (1). According to morgage calculator.org, your interest pay will be higher than the principal for the first 12 years of mortgage payments. In other words, more than half of your mortgage payment goes to bank as an interest pay for the first 12 years. How would your finances improve, if your morgage payment was half, or your house were completely payed off?

3D housing in USA - Finally it is licensed !

3D housing was first licensed in Europe and China, and recently it had been also accepted in New York, USA. CQ4D developed its technology to robotically build the footings, foundations, interior and exterior walls on site of the houses while adding thin layers on top of each other. The robot does the majority of the work so it reduced the required labor in the construction site to 1-2 and the house building takes around 1 day.

The house is listed as a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom house for $300 000 in New york and claimed that it brings the housing prices to its half of the comparable houses in the area. A house, build with a layer by layer contruction of concrete will provide the strength and durability of the conventional housing in USA that is made with wood. It is believed that the drastic drop in the price should help to the housing crices in USA.

3D housing had been under investigation for a while in USA, after the China investments, and technology is always in development, many other studies in 2019 and earlier, stated that only walls can be 3D printed but today pretty much the whole house can be 3D printed which is an amazing progress that reduces the time and the labor need.

So What is Future of 3D printing ? It is called : MARSHA

3D housing will be the construction process in Mars where labor and time is critical and limited. It will be a multi-level, corridor-free structure that stands upright on the surface of the planet, not burried underground like it was proposed before. In that way, people will still have light and view in a comfortable multispace area.

In the near future, Mars will look like this: Will have its 3D printed houses with Martians photo from : https://www.space.com/nasa-3d-printed-habitat-competition-winners.html

AI SpaceFactory needs an autonomous 3D-printing of Martian rock and bio-based polymers such as PLA that can be produced from the plants that will grow in Mars. It will have a dual shell to protect the inner environment from external forces such as extreme temperature, radiation and pressure changes. 3D printing is a must for space construction since 54.6 million km away from Earth, construction process and materials availability needs to be rearranged since bringing them from home is not an option.

Final thoughts…

I think it is amazing that a recent techology with multiple challanges in application is becoming available and forcing the government to modify or re-evaluate its guidelines accordingly. This is revolutionary. So it is not the question of "if" it will become widely available and reduce the housing prices but the question is "when". Seeing the recent progress in 3D application of housing will also motivate the other scientists and investors to re-evaluate their opinion on 3D printing applications in other fields.

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them. - Albert Einstein
