April 15, 2017 was the day Peter Capaldi’s Swan SongDoctor Who series began broadcasting. Series ten, episode one, which was titled The Pilot introduced Pearl Mackie as the 12th Doctor’s final companion, Bill Potts, who travelled across the stars with not just the Doctor, but his friend Nardole [Matt Lucas].

The series was full of twists, surprises and shocks as not only did the Doctor fake a regeneration, but two familiar faces had a showdown. John Simm and Michelle Gomez both returned as the Master and Missy, which didn’t exactly lead to a very delightful ending for anyone.

Series ten was the last for Peter Capaldi, Pearl Mackie, Matt Lucas and Michelle Gomez, as they all departed making way for a new Doctor and group of companions. The show runner at the time, Steven Moffat, also stepped down, which triggered another crew member to follow—Murray Gold, the music composer. With Gold no longer working on the hit BBC science-fiction show, the series ten soundtrack has never been released and fans are starting to worry.

Doctor Who fans will remember it took nearly three years for the series nine soundtrack to be released, and let’s be honest, it was definitely worth the wait. However, there’s been no major word of the series ten soundtrack being released ever since the series finished broadcasting.

Since series ten finished airing on BBC One, we’ve welcomed a new Doctor Who production crew, a new and female Doctor, Jodie Whittaker, and her three new companions, Graham [Bradley Walsh], Ryan [Tosin Cole] and Yaz [Mandip Gill]. Not only that, almost instantly after series 11 (Whittaker’s first series as the Doctor) the series 11 soundtrack was released, which raised the big question—what has happened to the series ten soundtrack? Has it been forgotten about? Are the BBC not going to release it?

Recently, Vocal Media writer and creator, Lewis Jefferies, has reached out to the BBC and Silva Screen Records regarding the series ten soundtrack with the hope that he gets some good news from both companies.

A spokesperson at Silva Screen Records has responded to Lewis and unfortunately, it isn’t the news we all hoped for. The spokesperson said:

“There’s no update I’m afraid.”

Last time Lewis contacted Silva Screen for an update regarding the soundtrack, Lewis got pretty much the same answer. The spokesperson continued on to say:

“As soon as we hear something positive, we’ll let everyone know.”

So, as it seems, there are currently no plans to release the Doctor Who series ten soundtrack, but fans will continue to hope that one day it does end up getting released.

On one hand, with the series ten soundtrack not released, it means fans can’t complete their soundtrack collections. All the soundtracks from the revived era of the show released are series one from Rose through to series nine The Husbands of River Song (and most recently, series 11), meaning fans currently have no high-quality versions of the soundtrack from The Return of Doctor Mysterio through to Twice Upon A Time. On the other hand, fans can access a recreated one-hour long soundtrack on YouTube. The piece on the streaming service is a collection of tracks recreated based on the score used in each episode we don’t have a released soundtrack for.

With that in mind, at least fans have the latest soundtrack to enjoy, which was composed by the show’s new composer, Segun Akinola.

The current cast of Jodie Whittaker, Bradley Walsh, Tosin Cole, and Mandip Gill all return to Doctor Who for series 12 in early 2020 with Chris Chibnall remaining.
