Do It Yourself: Jupiter in Aries ~ Dec '22 to May '23

On December 20th, 2022, Jupiter re-enters the fierce and firey sign of Aries, after having gone retrograde back into Pisces, causing us to reevaluate the deeper meaning of our decisions and doings. Jupiter's first attempt to transit the Ram on May 10th only allowed through to the 8th degree before turning back. Now, it's time for Jupiter's transit through Aries to truly begin!

Jupiter in Aries 2022 and Retrograde Back Into Pisces

On May 10th, 2022, Jupiter, planet of luck, wisdom and abundance, left its homeland of Pisces and entered Aries, a cardinal fire sign ruled by Mars, "god of war." Jupiter remained in the sign of the ram until October 28th, when it traveled retrograde back into Pisces, only to enter Aries once again, on December 20th, where it will stay until it enters Taurus on May 16th, 2023.

After an apocalyptic couple of years, following the Saturn-Pluto conjunction (and the Great Conjunction) in 2020, some astrology enthusiasts have been quick to predict that Jupiter in Aries might just be the trumpet sounding off the next horse to gallop out of the Book of Revelations: global warfare. They weren't totally wrong. In February of 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine, a move that many feared (and still fear) to be the beginnings of a third world war. Although Jupiter was still in Pisces at that point, Jupiter's entrance into Aries didn't exactly make matters any better; while those residing in NATO (or allied) countries may have remained relatively safe and unharmed, thousands of Ukranians and Russians have died as a result of this gruesome war. It is also interesting to note that Jupiter was in Aries at the beginning of World War 2. We should also, of course, be rational and note that Jupiter has been in Aries many times since then without unleashing a global conflict. However, there were many wars that began, escalated or intensified during this transit, including the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Cold War, civil wars in Angola, Lebanon and other countries, the Yugoslav Wars, and others. A list of wars from Wikipedia shows us plainly that wars happen every year but it also shows us that these were some of the conflicts to involve the most countries.

In any case, this article explores what we might expect now that Jupiter's back in Aries, not just globally, at the level known as "mundane astrology" but also personally, at the level known as "natal astrology."

Jupiter in Aries 2023

To astrologers, Jupiter is the great benefic, the planet of luck and prosperity. It expands whatever it touches, giving way to growth and abundance. It is also associated with foreign travel and higher learning. Although many modern astrologers consider Jupiter to be a generational planet in the same vein as Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, I personally find Jupiter's placement in a chart to carry some personal meaning especially for Pisces and Sagittarius Ascendants. Jupiter is associated with morality and religious beliefs and I find that Jupiter's placement tells you something about a person's philosophy and outlook on life, as well as where they might find themselves in good fortune.

In Aries, Jupiter expands through martial force. A cardinal fire sign ruled by the planet of war, the Ram is all about action and activity. Those born with Jupiter in Aries (and if you were born in 1939/40, 1951, 1963, 1975, 1999 or 2010/11, this is your Jupiter Return) tend towards a philosophy of rugged individualism. They are explorers, pioneers, and masters of enterprise, boldly taking advantage of whatever lucky opportunities come their way. Their motto is to "Just Do It," just get on with it. Mars is the hunter, the chaser, the pursuer and those with Jupiter in Mars' domicile go after what they want, without letting fears get in the way. Some of them may perceive the world as a competition, life as a battlefield, and may even appear to have some cynical tendencies as a result, but ultimately, Jupiter in Aries is a hopeful placement and a passionate one, with an unshakeable faith in their ability to fight for what they believe and create lasting change.

It's possible that Jupiter's transit through Aries could create a spirit of tension and divisiveness, emboldening people on both sides of the battlefield to fight harder for what they want. This may especially be the case with Mars' simultaneously transiting Gemini, having just gone direct after being retrograde since October. At its worst, this could lead to all-out war but for many, it may be no more than argument and tension. Whatever we want, whatever we believe, Jupiter in Aries increases our level of enthusiasm and motivation for it.

On a more positive note, we may all become more emboldened to make choices that are best for us personally: leaving behind jobs, relationships and belief systems that no longer resonate while gaining the confidence to go after those that do, regardless of social convention. There may be a rise in entreprenuership and DIY. There might be an increase of self-governing communities and things like, growing your own food or making your own clothes may become a bit more trendy. In any case, you can expect an increase in confidence and courage, as this transit inspires us all to take more initiative, innovate where possible and when no good options are offered to us, invent a solution ourselves.

Probably the most important aspect Jupiter will make during this transit is it's conjunction to Chiron, the wounded healer, on March 12th. These two will meet at 14 degrees of the cardinal fire sign, potentially leading to some collateral damage. There could be an increase in accidents, fire-related injuries, and war-related wounds, whether literally or figuratively, but on a more positive note, Chiron is also about healing, meaning that perhaps this damage will help to put an end all the conflict and allow us to start again.

Throughout March and April, Jupiter will be making a series of collections to the inner planets. On March 2nd, the great benefic will meet with Venus, at 12 degrees of the Ram, leading to an increase in hot, steamy (but also potentially scandalous!) love affairs. On March 28th, Mercury will be the one to conjunct Jupiter, gifting us with a bright spark of new inspiration, and an increase in direct communication. Lastly, the planet of faith and fortune will conjunct the Sun on April 11th; believed to be the luckiest day of the year (especially for those born under Mars' home sign) this will lead to an increase of confidence and self-sufficiency.

Horoscopes

Now it's time to see how it will affect your sign. I suggest reading the horoscope for your ascendant or rising sign, first, instead of the sun. I find the rising sign horoscope to be more accurate than the sun, as these horoscopes are based on the houses. If you don't know your rising sign, click here to generate a birth chart. Yes, you will need your birth time for this. If you don't have your birth time, Sun sign horoscopes are the next best thing. If you want to know more about how this transit will affect you in depth, on a more personal level, click here to schedule a reading with me. Those of you with any planets or angles in cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) will most especially be affected by this transit.

Aries

Your enthusiasm for life has been taken up a notch further, dear Aries, now that Jupiter's back in your sign. For the past year, you may have been tired, withdrawn, maybe even a little bit angry and fed up with the world, but Jupiter in the 1st house has given you a newfound burst of energy and you feel ready to take on the world. Your faith has been restored and you feel inspired to take action. This could lead you to a period of happiness and excess i.e. wanting to party but alternatively, this transit can also lead you down a path of spirituality or religious calling as everything is now infused with a sense of color and meaning that seemed to be missing before.

Taurus

With Jupiter in your 12th house of self-undoing, you could be feeling withdrawn or like your energy has been zapped from you. However, it does not have to be this way. Alternatively, this transit could give you the confidence to stand on your own two feet, giving you the choice to isolate yourself from the ways of the world to focus on your highest good. You might find that being alone allows you to get things done and accomplish your goals without distraction. In other words, this solitary energy can be used for your benefit, by expanding your relationship with the divine, and helping you to grow as a spiritual and human being. You have a strong presence, Taurus, and this can help you to cultivate mindfulness and spiritual wellbeing.

Gemini

Sure, you're stereotyped as a social butterfly, but people often underestimate how shy and even lonely some of you really are. You long to converse and communicate but sometimes, in our current era, making new friends (especially friendships that stick!) can be a bit of a challenge, even for you. Lucky for you, Gemini, Jupiter is now transiting your 11th house of friends and your social circle is expanding; your calendar's about to become full. These last two years may have been difficult but this transit may inspire you to put yourself out there. You might meet people by joining a club of some sort or going to more events. In any case, making friends is easy now, and you might be especially drawn to friendships with people who share your belief system or friends that expand your worldview, in some way. Alternatively, this transit may give you the courage to say goodbye to friendships that were only an impediment to your growth.

Cancer

Sometimes, Cancer, you really just want to clam up into your shell. Sometimes, you can be a bit shy, but thankfully, with Jupiter transiting your 10th house of career and reputation, you're gaining the courage to speak up and the motivation to go after what you want. In other words, you might be feeling more assertive and goal-driven than usual and this will open up new opportunities for you in your profession, such as a promotion or a new offer. This transit can be especially beneficial if you are an entraprenuer or looking to start your own business, as it will provide you with the faith and self-sufficiency needed to strike it out on your own. Alternatively, if you're unhappy in your job or wherever you are at in life, this transit will help give you the confidence to quit and find a life path that's more fulfilling and meaningful.

Leo

You're about to experience some adventure, dear Leo. With Jupiter in your 9th house of foreign travel and higher education, you're about to explore new horizons. Perhaps, before, you were holding back, afraid to take risks, but now is time to take the initiative, to buy those plane tickets, apply for that college course, take the leap. Whether you're a university student, teacher, researcher, world traveler (and I do believe there will be opportunities for you abroad!), or just someone whose sitting at home glued to their books, these next six months are about learning, gaining wisdom that will greatly benefit you in the years to come.

Virgo

Oh, Virgo, you're already stereotyped as a worry wart. Jupiter transiting your 8th house of death and rebirth doesn't seem to help matters. However, you'll be in for a surprise! This transit will help to shed light in dark places, including the darkest places within your psyche. This may manifest as a deeper interest or investigation into the secrets of the afterlife, the paranormal or the occult, or it could manifest in therapy, psychological healing or a thirst for adventure. Whatever the case, this transit will help you to be bold and overcome your deepest fears and worries. On another note, this transit can also sometimes indicate an inheritance.

Libra

They say you're a hopeless romantic, dear Libra, and lucky for you, Jupiter is in your 7th house of relationships. So, now is the time for all those dreams of partnership to come true! You may just find yourself falling headfirst into the midst of a passionate and exciting love affair. This could be someone you meet abroad or someone from a culture very different from yours. This could also be a very spiritual relationship, a soulmate-type bond that inspires you to grow, both individually and as a team. If you're already in a relationship, this transit could help to re-ignite the spark: you and your partner may explore new horizons together, travel together, learn something new. Alternatively, if you're in a bad situation, this transit could give you the courage to walk away. Whatever the case, you'll likely find that you'll have good luck with people during this transit. You may find yourself learning from (and teaching something to) every person you encounter, and that you're learning a lot about the art of relating itself.

Scorpio

The endless chores of every day life may seem to you, dull and dreary, Scorpio. With Jupiter in your 6th house of health and 'work', it looks like you need to shake up your daily routine! Make it more exciting! Since Jupiter is a planet associated with wisdom and philosophy, this transit may suggest that you need to make mindfulness and spiritual practices a deeper part of your routine. On another note, this transit might also be about healing. Whether it be mental or physical, this transit puts the focus on your health.

Sagittarius

You're all about fun and living it large, Sagittarius, and with your ruling planet in your 5th house, you can expect that side of your self to show up. This is a time to take risks and enjoy your life to the fullest. This "enjoyment" could take the form of learning and traveling. However, it's also a time to get creative. You might find yourself bursting with inspiration and enthusiasm for new projects: this transit tells you it is a time to put such ideas into good use. The 5th house also rules children and Jupiter is a fertile planet, so for some of you, this could be an indicator of pregnancy, as well.

Capricorn

For all you hard-working Capricorns, this may be the time to finally allow yourself some rest and enjoy the fruits of your labor. Jupiter is currently transiting your 4th house, so you could be expecting your home or family to grow larger. For some of you, this could be a new child or a maybe a even a marriage; for others, maybe renovating your living space. Since this transit is all about taking risks, you might find yourself inspired to move, maybe somewhere far - like another country - where you've been wanting to go to for ages, or maybe you'll just want to upgrade your living space to a nicer, bigger, place around the block. In any case, you can expect domestic life to be fairly pleasant around this time and interactions with family members will likely be very positive, as well.

Aquarius

Sure, they say you're gregarious, Aquarius, but you are ruled by Saturn and sometimes, well, you prefer humanity much more than you actually prefer humans. With Jupiter transiting your 3rd house, however, you're coming out of your cave; done with misanthropic moods, you're ready to mingle and chat and meet people again, maybe even make some friends and with them, try new things. Such friends you meet are likely to be people with whom you feel confident speaking openly and honestly about what you believe. Maybe this means doing something relating to a hobby or taking a new class of some sort. 3rd house also rules siblings, extended family, neighbors and short (usually domestic) travels. So you could be going on a road trip or gearing up for some some other not-too-far-away adventure.

Pisces

You may not be stereotyped as the most materialistic person, dear Pisces, but we all like a little money, don't we? After all, we need it to survive, and with Jupiter in your 2nd house, you may just find that your wallet is getting a boost. This could be due to a raise or a promotion (as well as gifts you receive from other people, who knows) but since this transit is all about taking risks, it could also perhaps be due to a side-hustle, a new field of work, maybe even your own business, something you do on the own. Whatever the case, be happy to know that you might find yourself in a much more comfortable position materially.

Conclusion

Jupiter in Aries provides us with a fresh start, a new wave of energy and independence. Over the next five months, we can expect an increase in motivation and an abundance of activity and adventure across the board. It's possible that there may be some conflict in this quick drive to get things done and we may find ourselves butting heads with each other like rams do. However, this is an exciting time and such action can also lead to positive changes. Especially now that Jupiter has gone retrograde back into Pisces and direct into Aries again, we should be driven by a sense of meaning, of deep feeling of what we are doing, and this should minimize the dangers of pure impulsivity that we may have experienced before the retrograde. There is a spark of courage, a scent of fearlessness in the air, and one thing's for sure: by fully owning our power to act, and the impact of deciding for ourselves, our lives will never again be the same.
