Climate Change Evidence

It Does Not Help to Be in Denial

Denial is not just a dried up river in Africa. Earth has cooling periods also known as Ice Ages and warming periods, such as the global warming that occurs in 2018. There is much evidence of the existence of global warming. Shells in glacial deposits help scientists decide a “maximum age for the glacier advance.” These shells had been preserved for 14,000 years because of being well preserved. In the past, Britain and Ireland’s winters were very cold. This was in the remote past. Global warming is surely influenced by human activity but it is also part of a natural cycle of weather on this planet.

Global warming is often caused by human activities such as factories, cars, and pollution from landfills, which incinerate their garbage. Some global warming may be seen as causing permanent changes to earth’s environment. The average temperature of the earth has risen from 0.4°C to 0.8°C over the past 100 years. (https://www.livescience.com/topics/global-warming). Global warming could get worse with climate change causing temperature rises of “1.4 and 5.8 °C by the year 2100.” Rising sea levels are another result of global warming because the ice in Antarctica is creating icebergs that melt into the rest of the water.

One solution to this problem is to invent a fleet of joint military and civilian freighters, tanks or other seagoing ships to tackle the problem of melting the iceberg on the ship, not in the water. They can carve it up, melt it down, and desalinate the water so that we can ship it to parts of the world that need the water. The plan is a possibility but the thing is, somebody political needs to take it seriously. Global warming is something we all need to be paying attention to.

The use of fossil fuels is one thing that makes the planet grow warmer. But reducing those takes an effort on human’s part that we do not want to make. Even NASA feels that Earth’s climate had seven cycles of glacier advance and retreat, 650,000 years ago. The end of the last ice age was 7,000 years ago. Climate changes happen because of slight changes in the Earth’s orbit. Carbon dioxide and other gases become trapped in Earth’s atmosphere. Ice core samples show that Earth’s climate changes in response to the number of greenhouse gases, evidence of this also being found in “tree rings, ocean sediments, coral reefs, and layers of sedimentary rocks.”

Retreating glaciers and less snow cover is a symptom of the overall problem of global warming that nobody is doing anything to fix. The sea level rise is problematic, as well as declining Arctic sea ice. We can’t just wait around for our politicians to do something about the situation, in particular, if they are a global warming denier. Climate change is a very real event, causing hurricanes, and more. There is a heat blanket in between the upper atmosphere and the lower atmosphere. (Inside Climate News) This planet doesn’t have a stable climate. Ignoring the problem doesn’t make it go away. Higher water temperature drives marine life to seek out the poles because they are in search of livable habitats. 2017 had three major hurricanes, Harvey, Irma, and Maria. The hurricanes are epidemic because they keep coming. Argo is an international effort designed to collect data on warming temperatures with 4,000 ocean-going sensors that gather data on the state of the ocean’s temperature, whether it is rising or not. The rising temperatures cause sea levels to rise even more. As the water gets warmer, the water makes the ice melt faster. The West Antarctic ice sheet holds enough ice that can melt, which will raise the global sea level by 11 feet. This is stuff that is happening now, not in the far future. We need to start fixing it as a species or we are toast.
