10 Things That Don't Make Sense In 'The Mandalorian'

Have You Noticed?

Star Wars fans have seen two seasons of The Mandalorian on Disney+ so far, and yet, there are still questions that need answered and things that just don’t make sense within the story. Most stories are going to have plot holes in them; it’s totally normal. But there are some in The Mandalorian that have been bothering fans for a while.

10. The Story Contradicts Itself in the Idea of Secrecy

In season 1 of The Mandalorian, Din Djarin visits the Armorer in “The Sin.” We learn that Mandalorians only go above ground one at a time to maintain secrecy of their numbers and themselves. It is referenced in the story multiple times that it is rare to find a Mandalorian. This is even carried into season 2 when Din Djarin is looking for Boba Fett. And yet, when Din Djarin is trying to escape with Grogu, the Mandalorians that are hiding in the enclave on Nevarro expose themselves and their numbers to the enemy, which goes against what we have learned so far. And the only thing we have to go off of is that they do it because they are helping one of their own. But if this is the case, then why would they all expose themselves to help when they know so little about Grogu (at the time)? They end up being wiped out because of it, which is what they were trying not to do for years.

9. Who's The Armorer and What's Her Role?

We never learn who The Armorer is or what her role is supposed to be. Is she a leader of The Watch, the group of Mandalorians that follow The Way? Does she just make their armor? Her helmet seems to have Zabrak horns on it, just like Darth Maul. Does that mean they are connected?

8. Why Doesn’t Din Djarin Have Any Knowledge of the Jedi?

Throughout the two seasons, we learn that Din Djarin has no idea that Jedi exist. Which is odd, because the Darksaber, a revered item for the Mandalorians, was owned by a Jedi in its history. So, why would Din Djarin not know? The question was answered that the Mandalorians who follow The Way are a type of cult, so perhaps that might answer it to an extent. But the other problem with this is that Din Djarin is a bounty hunter. And as a bounty hunter, he would have most likely come across something having to do with Jedi, or legends at least. So, we have yet to learn why Din Djarin has zero idea who Jedi are, or what the Force is.

7. How Did Boba Fett Escape the Sarlaac?

This question has the potential to be answered in The Book of Boba Fett, but it is still odd that it is never even touched upon in The Mandalorian. When Boba Fett just showed up, alive, but missing his armor, fans immediately had all these questions. The Sarlaac definitely swallows Boba Fett in Return of the Jedi, so bringing him back without any explanation as to how he survived is super weird, especially because it seems like he has been alive and roaming Tatooine for years. And what was he doing in those five years? Just roaming the desert? Looking for his armor?

6. How Does Din Djarin Know How to Fly a Jetpack Right Away?

Din Djarin gets his first jetpack in the first season and immediately knows how to fly it…expertly. They are extremely complicated, and if this is indeed his first jetpack, like we are led to believe, then how on earth does he learn how to fly it so fast and so expertly? Either he is just a natural flyer like Anakin on spaceships or he secretly snuck out and tried jetpacks that weren’t his own.

5. Why Does Din Djarin Have No Idea Who Bo-Katan Is?

It is understandable if Din Djarin doesn’t have a lot of information about the other factions of Mandalorians on account of the Purge. However, according to Star Wars lore, the Mandalorians are uniting at the end of Rebels, meaning that the Purge takes place sometime during the original trilogy. And if this is the case, and the Mandalorian Purge takes place right around the end of Rebels like the timeline is set for us to believe, then Din should have had some knowledge of the two factions. And yet, just like with the Jedi, he has zero knowledge and we are never told why he doesn’t even realize that there are more Mandalorians out there. Especially, again, with him being a bounty hunter.

4. How Does Bo-Katan Lose The Darksaber?

At the end of Rebels, Bo-Katan claims the Darksaber and is reuniting her fractured people. The Mandalorian takes place nearly a decade afterward. So how does Bo-Katan lose the saber and Mandalore itself to the Empire? Bo-Katan has the Darksaber during the Galactic Civil War, so when does Moff Gideon obtain it and how?

3. When Exactly Was Din Djarin Rescued by the Death Watch?

During a flashback in season 2, we see that Din is a young boy when he is rescued by members of the Death Watch during the Clone Wars in a battle against Super Battle Droid forces. This leaves us with a lot of questions as to where in the timeline this is supposed to be set. Is this before or after Bo-Katan leaves the Death Watch? Could it be while the Death Watch is still under the control of Darth Maul?

2. Who Exactly Is Moff Gideon and Why Does No One Really Know Who He Is?

Moffs are sector governors in the Galactic Empire, meaning that they have control over numerous star systems. Is Gideon a Moff during the Galactic Civil War, or does he adopt the title after the battles have died down and the Empire has been “defeated?” If he were one of the Moffs during the war, he would have been one of the high value targets that Rebel Shock Trooper Cara Dune talks about whom they hunt with prejudice. However, no one really seems to know who he is, which is odd if he is a part of the war. So, where does he come from?

1. Why Does No One Know Who Grogu Is?

The biggest question that was left unanswered with the release of season 2 of The Mandalorian was that of Grogu. Grogu is supposed to be 50. Order 66 occurs about 28 years before The Mandalorian. And according to Ahsoka, Grogu spends almost half his life in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. Ahsoka has no knowledge of Grogu, and apparently, many other prequel era Jedi don't, either. Although, Ahsoka tells Din that she learns that Grogu had many masters and that someone fled the temple with him when Anakin attacked. How much does Yoda know of Grogu? They are the same species, so Yoda would have definitely known about him and probably trained him. Yoda definitely trained younglings. So why has he never mentioned him? Obviously, one of the main things that can answer these questions is that Grogu wasn’t thought up by anyone until The Mandalorian, so it would make sense that no one would have mentioned him as a character. However, in terms of plot holes in stories goes, this is a glaring one. It would make sense to come up with some sort of explanation as to why no one would have mentioned him earlier. I mean, you could go with the whole “memory wipe” trope C-3PO not remembering Obi-Wan, but if that is the case, then why doesn’t The Mandalorian at least try to answer this big glaring plot hole with some sort of explanation when they introduce the idea that Grogu was in the same area and timeline as major events that we have already seen?

There are many more questions that The Mandalorian did not answer. And perhaps many of them will be answered in future seasons or other Star Wars shows. But for now, we can speculate.
