Mind-Bending Occurrences That Defy Time's Limits

For millennia, time travel has enthralled the human imagination. It's no surprise that it's long been a popular theme in fiction literature and films. Today, we'll look at the best time travel stories to show that it is, in fact, possible.

10. The Wing Commander

Victor Goddard, a British Royal Air Force commander, was flying to Edinburgh one day in 1935 when he passed over a run-down airport near Derm, Scotland. From above, Goddard only saw a lonely farm and few livestock. He travelled the same route on his way back to England a few days later. However, his plane was caught in a storm, and the pilot became so disoriented as a result of all the whirling and swinging that he lost control of the machine for several minutes. Fortunately, the storm passed as quickly as it had begun, and he regained control. He hoped to get the jet back on track by following some recognisable landmarks on the ground.

As he approached Derm airfield, he looked down, expecting to see it, but what he saw completely surprised him. The airfield had been refurbished, and four brand new yellow planes were on the runway with mechanics in blue overalls caring for them. The storm retaliated, and rainy clouds engulfed Goddard's contraption once more. The man struck it rich once more, landing safely at his home base. His colleagues were doubtful of this extraordinary narrative at the time, but Victor Goddard retold the incident in detail in a book that was published 40 years later, convinced as he was of what he saw.

9. Man claim coming from a country no one’s ever heard of

Going back and forth through time and space may appear to us to be a pleasurable activity, but it is not for those who are participating! What if you're suddenly confronted with a pass control agent at an airport who refuses to believe you're travelling from Germany since no such country has ever existed, according to his knowledge?

In 1954, something similar occurred. When an apparently regular man surrendered his passport to be stamped at the Tokyo International Airport, he was almost immediately arrested for questioning. The difficulty appeared to be that the passport had been issued in a country called Taured that no one had ever heard of. When asked where his nation was on the map, the traveller pointed to Andorra without hesitation.

He maintained, however, that he knew nothing about Andorra and that his own country had been around for a thousand years. He also demanded to know why he had been interrogated like a criminal when he had been visiting Japan on a regular business trip for the previous five years. The guest was taken to the nearest hotel by immigration officials until the matter was handled. Despite the fact that two officials were stationed at the door and the room was on the 15th floor, the man vanished without a trace. Let's hope he made it back to Taured safe and sound.

8. Woman Becomes Paralysed

If you're a daring and adventurous tourist, you've probably heard about, if not seen, the Markawasi stone forest in Lima, Peru. The stones resemble human faces quite closely, and no geologist knows for sure how these stone creations were developed. However, some individuals believe they could be a portal to another time and world. A 30-year-old lady with hemiplegia (a condition characterised by the entire loss of motor function in half of the body) can attest to this.

She was a patient of a prominent Peruvian medical doctor and paranormal investigator, to whom she confessed that her sickness was possibly linked to a camping incident that occurred in the Markawasi area a few years ago. She went exploring with several companions in the region, and they ultimately came across a small, dimly lighted stone hut from which loud chanting emanated. She peered through the open door, curious, but what she saw astounded her – the individuals singing and dancing were clothed in 17th-century garb! She made a move to enter the cabin, but her pals stopped her just as she was about to enter. She was apparently not quite on time (or perhaps very much on time! ), for half of her body went immobilised at that very instant.

7. The British tourist who stayed at a non-existent hotel.

It was the year 1979. Two British couples were looking for a spot to stay the night as they drove through Northern France on their route to Spain. They eventually arrived to a structure that appeared to be a motel, but the men standing in front of it smoking hurriedly informed them that it was "an inn." The tourists logically concluded it had to be an attraction, a theme hotel of some sort, because everything inside the "inn" appeared to be pretty old-fashioned – no phones and no other modern conveniences – and that it had to be an attraction, a theme hotel of some sort that was supposed to make the guests feel like they were in the 19th century. They were accompanied to breakfast the next morning by two men in caped uniforms with grave expressions on their faces.

The couples left for Avignon after paying the unreasonably little amount of 19 francs. They opted to take the same route back to the United States after spending two weeks in Spain, and to stay at the same motel — not just because it was inexpensive, but also because they liked the out-of-date vibe. Imagine their surprise when they reached the exact location, but the structure was nowhere to be found! In addition, the images they took while staying at the hotel did not develop.

6. The businessman who went to the 1940s

Strange Magazine published a story in 1988, claiming that it was based on a historical occurrence that occurred on October 20, 1969. Two business associates were driving from a tiny town in Louisiana to Lafayette on Highway 167, which was nearly traffic-free. They observed a retro-looking, turtle-back-style car ahead of them with a licence plate with the year 1940 on it at some point. When they shortened the gap between the automobiles, they noticed that the woman driving was also dressed in 1940s-style attire. They could see a tiny girl in the passenger seat next to her as they drove beside the vintage automobile, and the mother had a panicked expression on her face.

They motioned for her to pull over so they could assist her; she nodded and began the manoeuvre. The two gentlemen drove carefully past her, but when they came to a halt on the side of the road to check for the other vehicle, it was nowhere to be found. The automobile, together with the terrified woman and child, had vanished into thin air.

The story concludes with an even more enigmatic twist. A lady and her child went missing in the 1940s, according to certain media. What if they're still travelling through different time warps, unable to find a way out?

5. Soldier John

"Wow, it would be so great if I could run into a true Terminator – a guy who's been sent back in time with a mission to save the globe!" have you ever thought? And maybe I could lend a helping hand..." Even if this might have happened, just one person knew who he was: "the Terminator." In the year 2000, a message from a man claiming to be a US soldier called John Titor from the year 2036 emerged on an unnamed online discussion forum.

He stated that in 1975, he was intended to carry out a crucial assignment that would save the planet from impending doom. The mission's premise, as he described it, sounded eerily similar to a sci-fi movie narrative, and his projections about the future raised many eyebrows. Nonetheless, there was something about the mechanics of his journey through the years that gave his story a glimmer of reality. Furthermore, while his ominous predictions about the future may not have come true, what if soldier Titor had really stopped an impending war by posting warning warnings about it?! After all, no one can genuinely prove the opposite…

4. The survivors of the Philadelphia Experiment

In Philadelphia, the US Navy began an experiment in 1943 with the goal of making military ships invisible to enemy radars. This was accomplished by wrapping large Tesla coils around a ship, which served as electromagnetic generators. When triggered, the Tesla coils formed an electromagnetic field that stretched out and diverted radar waves away from the ship, rendering it invisible to radar receivers. But what happened was that not only did the ship vanish from radar, but it also vanished from the city of Philadelphia! Al Bielek, the experiment's sole survivor, said that the ship entered hyperspace and two men were transported 40 years ahead of schedule before being recovered and returned to the battleship in question.

Later, he was persuaded to join the Montauk Project, which aimed to develop various psychological warfare tactics, including time travel. Al Bielek said that he and another man travelled to Mars multiple times in the 1980s, a fact he remembered until much later, when his purposely erased memories began to return. In 1989, Al Bielek made his role in the two initiatives public, and he continued to appear as a guest speaker on radio talk shows and conferences until his death in 2011.

3. A Swiss Watch Discovered sealed 400 Years Ago

Archeologists working on a site in southern China in 2008 were astounded by what they discovered. They discovered a Swiss watch in a Ming period tomb that had been sealed for over 400 years. The archaeologist initially mistook the watch for a piece of rock when it fell off the coffin. When they cleaned the odd artefact from the soil, they discovered it was a watch in the shape of a ring with the writing "Swiss" on the inner side. At 10:06, the watch's hands had frozen.

For the archaeologists, this discovery was probable proof of time travel because everything went in that direction - for starters, they were the first to open the tomb in decades. Second, there were no wrist watches or, for that matter, a country called Switzerland at the time it was sealed.

2. Journalists witness the Hamburg Bombing 11 Years before

A German newspaper assigned journalists Bernard Hutton and Joachim Brandt to write an article about the Hamburg shipyards in 1932. They were dutifully performing their duties at the site when the sky darkened, bombs began to explode around them, and anti-aircraft ammunition silenced them. They initially mistook it for a practise, but later learned it was the genuine deal: the shipyards were being attacked. The two men were able to return to their car and drive away to Hamburg quickly.

The sky cleared as soon as they went, and it was once again a quiet late afternoon. They knew no one would accept their narrative, but they had proof in the form of images shot during the bombing. However, when the images were developed, they revealed nothing out of the ordinary, much to their dismay.

Hutton was having breakfast in his London apartment eleven years later when he read in the papers that the British Royal Air Force had carried out Operation Gomorrah, in which the Hamburg shipyards were destroyed. The air raid images depicted the exact same occurrence that the two journalists had witnessed in 1932.

1. Woman witnesses battle that took in 685AD

Miss E.F. Smith, 55, was attending a party in the town of Brechin on January 2, 1950. She got in her car and drove to the town of Letham, where she lived, after a few cocktails. Driving conditions were awful; it was pitch black outside, and it had begun to rain heavily. With the road growing slick, Miss Smith's car wound up in a ditch, leaving her with little choice but to abandon her vehicle and walk the remaining eight kilometres to her house. The bizarre event began at 2 a.m., when she was still half a mile from the village. A group of individuals carrying burning torches arrived in the distance, according to her description.

A second group appeared to her right a short time later. Then she noticed persons considerably closer to her leaning down and inspecting the dead that were strewn about the area. They'd turn a body over and, if they didn't like what they saw, they'd turn it back on its face and move on to the next one. Miss Smith's little dog began growling at that point, and she dashed back home before it began barking at the odd figures with the torches.

A member of the Group of Physical Research became interested in the Scottish lady's case 20 years later, and after some investigation, he revealed to her and the scientific society that what she must have experienced was the aftermath of the Battle of Nechtansmere, which occurred in the year 685 AD. Soldiers with torches walked around the field looking for their own fallen comrades.
