Oooo Errr

A warning, do not read this if you are easily offended by sexual references. These may be your favourite bands and you may be surprised to find out what their name actually refers to. Although I will submit this to the Vocal Beat Community, it could possibly go in Filthy too.

Although hopefully, most people will find this amusing on an almost schoolboy/schoolgirl level.

Some of these have not been confirmed and none of them are out and out obvious names. With the advent of punk, it seemed anything was OK so you won’t find bands like The Vibrators or The Dickies in this list. I do hope at least a few of these surprise you and I have put together a YouTube playlist here.

I could only find nine to include here, but I am sure that you will have others that you can tell me about.

Scissor Sisters

This is a term for when two girls stimulate themselves by opening their legs and getting extremely up close and personal. I don’t think I need to go into this any further and I might have already shocked some people and made them leave this story. The song I have chosen is “Take Your Mama”.

Pearl Jam

Although unconfirmed, this supposedly refers to the consistency, colour and texture of male semen. Think of the other similar analogy “pearl necklace” and such definitions can be found in “Roger’s Profanisaurus” which you can find here.

The song I have chosen is “Alive”

The Lovin’ Spoonful

Again this refers to the volume of male ejaculation, the don’t say how big a spoon though.

The song I have chosen is “Do You Believe In Magic”

10CC

As above this is a generous estimation of the volume of male ejaculation, maybe 5CC would be a more realistic estimate. Still, their music is always excellent, although when I saw them supporting The Rolling Stones at the first Knebworth Festival they took over two hours to do a soundcheck resulting in The Stones hitting the stage around midnight.

“The Things We Do For Love”

Buzzcocks

Although an obvious reference to the device known as a non-doctor for ladies' pleasure, though the official nomenclature coined by Howard Devoto and Pete Shelley is that they chose the name after reading the headline, "It's the Buzz, Cock!", in a review of the TV series Rock Follies in Time Out magazine. The "buzz" is the excitement of playing on stage; "cock" is northern English slang meaning "friend".

“Why Can’t I Touch It?” is my favourite song of theirs along with “Love You More”

Pet Shop Boys

This is apparently a gay fetish involving plastic tubes inserted and then having a hamster or small rodent introduced. It wouldn't surprise me.

“It’s A Sin” is an appropriate choice.

Steely Dan

This is the name of a steam-powered dildo from the William Burroughs book “The Naked Lunch”, to find out more you will have to read the book but I will give you one of my favorite songs of theirs “Barrytown”.

Limp Bizkit

This is apparently a schoolboy game where a group of lads masturbate and ejaculate on to a biscuit and the last one to contribute has to east the now limp biscuit.

“Rollin’”

Whitesnake

It is fairly obvious what this means, from an obviously white male band.

“Here I Go Again”

A Filthy Conclusion

I hope this has brought a smile to you face and not shocked you to much (you know I am pure as the driven slush) , but all the music is excellent and well worth your time to enjoy.

This was filthy and hilarious! Even if the Pearl Jam one isn’t true, it certainly sounds like it is. They made a joke about that on the show Weeds. I love Buzzcocks. “Why Can’t I Touch It” is such a great song.

Came across this interesting article. The Pearl Jam one is wrong, though, funny. It has been long debunked that it is neither a peyote-laced jam that Eddie Vedder's grandma Pearl used to make (though he does have a gramma named Pearl, she doesn't make Jam), nor another name for ejaculate. I believe Jeff Ament, the bassist, explained the meaning. From the wiki for the band "In a 2006 cover story for Rolling Stone, Vedder admitted that this story was "total bullshit", but he did have a great-grandma named Pearl. Ament and McCready explained that Ament came up with "pearl", and that the band later settled on Pearl Jam after attending a Neil Young concert, in which he extended his songs as improvisations of 15–20 minutes in length" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pearl_Jam and the source material - https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/pearl-jam-the-second-coming-237589/ - sorry to be a spoiled sport lol! Loved the article though and the others more or less look spot on! 🤣
