Is Having Sex During Your Period Safe?

Is it okay to have sex while on your period?

You'll have a menstrual cycle once a month during your reproductive years. There's no reason to stop sexual intercourse during your lifetime unless you're really phobic. Period sex is clean, even if it can be a little messy. Having sex when menstruating may also have a few benefits, such as relief from menstrual cramps.

What are the advantages?

There are a few benefits to having sex during your period:

1. Cramping relief

Menstrual cramps can be relieved by orgasms. Your uterus contracts to release its lining, which causes menstrual cramps. The muscles of your uterus contract as well when you have an orgasm. Then they let go. Period cramps should be relieved as a result of this update.

Sex also releases chemicals known as endorphins, which make you feel good. Plus, engaging in sexual intercourse diverts your attention away from your menstrual pain.

2. Shorter periods

It's possible that having sex will make the cycles shorter. During an orgasm, muscle contractions force the uterine contents out faster. This could lead to shorter periods of time.

3. Increased sex desire for women

Hormonal variations affect your libido during your menstrual cycle. Many women claim that their sex drive increases during ovulation, which occurs around two weeks before their period, while others claim that they feel more turned on during their period.

4. The use of natural lubricants

During your time, you can put the KY away. Blood serves as a lubricant in the body.

5. It might help you get rid of your headache.

Migraine headaches strike about half of all women during their periods. Although most women with menstrual migraines avoid having sex during their attacks, many of those who do say it helps to relieve their headaches partially or completely.

What are the possible complications?

The biggest downside to having sex during your period is the mess. If you have a heavy flow, blood can get on you, your wife, and the sheets. Bleeding will make you feel self-conscious in addition to dirtying the bed. Anxiety about making a mess can detract from the pleasure of sex.

Another concern about having sex while on your period is the risk of transmitting a sexually transmitted infection (STI) such as HIV or hepatitis. These viruses live in the bloodstream and can be spread by coming into contact with infected menstrual blood. When you have sex, do use condoms to reduce the chance of spreading or contracting a STI.

You must remove your tampon if you want to have sex during your time. During sex, a forgotten tampon can push itself so far up into your vagina that it must be removed by a doctor.

Is it possible for you to become pregnant?

No matter what stage of your menstrual cycle you are in, using contraception is a smart idea if you aren't consciously trying to conceive. While your chances of being pregnant are lower during your time, it is still possible.

Ovulation, which occurs about 14 days before your period, is the most likely time for you to become pregnant. However, every woman's cycle length is different, and it can change monthly. If your menstrual cycle is short, your chances of becoming pregnant during your period are higher.

Consider that sperm will live for up to seven days in your body. If you have a 22-day cycle and ovulate shortly after your period, there's a chance you'll release an egg while sperm are still in your reproductive tract.

Is it necessary to use protection?

STIs can also be avoided by using protection. Since viruses like HIV live in menstrual blood, you can not only catch a STI during your cycle, but you can also more easily pass one to your partner.

To minimise your chances of being pregnant and contracting a STI, make your partner use a latex condom any time you have sex. There are other ways to protect yourself or your partner if you are allergic to latex. You should seek advice from your pharmacist or doctor.

Tips for having sex while on your period

Here are some suggestions for making period sex more enjoyable and less messy:

  • Communicate with your partner in an open and frank manner. Tell them how you feel about having sex during your time and inquire about their thoughts on the subject. If either of you is reluctant, discuss the reasons for your apprehension.
  • If you're using a tampon, pull it out before you start messing around.
  • To catch any blood leakage, place a dark-colored towel on the bed. Alternatively, stop the mess completely by having sex in the shower or bath.
  • To clean up afterward, hold a wet washcloth or wet wipes near the bed.
  • Wear a latex condom for your girlfriend. It will protect you from pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
  • If your normal sexual position makes you feel uncomfortable, try something new. Try lying down on your side with your partner behind you, for example.

Take-out

Don't let your sex life come to a halt because of your time. If you do a little planning ahead of time, those five or so days can be just as fun as the rest of the month. You may be shocked to hear that your period makes sex even more exciting.
