Everyone has fantasies or a favorite sexual encounter that gets your heart racing just thinking about it. Why not write about them? Whenever I mention that I write erotic, I get eye rolls. Apparently, that's not "real" writing. There's a reason 50 Shades of Grey is so insanely popular. People love to read it, even if they won't admit it.

If the thought of anyone ever reading your most intimate stories, real or fiction, makes you want to hide away forever, don't worry. You don't have to write erotica for anyone but yourself. Of course, sharing it with whoever you're getting down with could be fun.

You don't need to be a great writer or have a degree to do this. Think of it as a journaling exercise. If you're still not sold on the idea, these five benefits will have you jotting down those dirty thoughts tonight:

1. Discover What You Like

The best way to have better sex is to know what you like. You can't rely upon a partner to tell you or wait for them to just uncover something you like. While it's always fun to stumble upon a kink with a partner, you could just as easily wake up decades from now and wonder why your love life's so bland.

Shut out any doubts you might have or those voices in your head that say "good girls don't do this." Then, get to writing. Naturally, you're not always going to want to do everything you fantasize about. But, write out those fantasies anyway. What is it about them that really gets you off?

Use that to discover what you like and what you'd like to add to your sexual life.

2. Suggest Something New

Not sure how to tell your partner that you'd love to try a new position or bring some toys into play? Maybe you really want to get it on somewhere more public. Whatever it is, write it out. As you write, you'll build confidence. Your fantasy will feel more real and it's easier to bring it up to your partner.

Of course, you could just hand them your story and see how they react. Either way, you won't know how they feel until you say something.

3. Turns Your Partner On

Most people really aren't that comfortable with dirty talk, yet it's so damn hot! Take your time and write erotica that features some of your partner's favorite things along with what you love to do most. Describe your perfect sexual experience with them.

Get as explicit as you want. While the written word isn't usually seen as foreplay, great erotica can take someone from not really in the mood to ready to go in minutes.

4. Feel Sexier

There's something liberating about writing erotica. It's your sexual fantasies unleashed. No one's going to judge you. You're not committing to anything. It's fun and completely up to you as to what happens next in your story.

You can be anyone you want. You could even focus on what you believe your biggest flaws are and make them your most attractive features. The more you write, the sexier and more empowered you feel. You might just discover a whole new side to yourself.

5. Add Some Secret Adventure

For many people, you're actually perfectly happy with your sex life. However, you still have some fantasies you keep tucked away. You'd never dream of cheating, but when you write erotica, it's like living a new life. You can do and be anyone. Secretly spice up your love life by writing about fictional sexual encounters. You'll end up happily turned on and ready to give your partner the night of their life.

Yes, erotica has a bad reputation, but that doesn't mean it's bad. Write about whatever gets you hot and bothered. You don't have to share it, but if you want to, remember there's a huge market for it. You could just stumble into a new career. Or, at the very least, unleash the sexual being inside yourself longing to be free.

Kudos for crafting a piece that challenges societal taboos and promotes the importance of personal exploration and expression. I think it's really important to encourage people to embrace their desires, foster open communication within relationships, and celebrate the power of writing as a tool for self-discovery. 💜💜💜 Great piece!

I write erotica on here. I love writing it, though my main problem is sharing it as many places don't like it, and marking it sensitive doesn't help to get reads. I also write it offline and my partner loves it.
