Rewards for Honest Work

Kolawole almost fell to the ground when the MD said he was bewitched by Lati Olowolagba, he was surprised that Lati could be that fetish; he silently thanked the Lord, Lati could have killed him very easily if God had allowed him to do so. “Alright sir, I will work for you; but not as your paid staff, but as your Local Supplier of building materials,” and he showed the MD his allocation paper to collect six hundred bags of cements at Ewekoro cement factory. “If you are looking for cement, I am at your service sir,” and he gave the allocation cement paper to the MD.

The Managing Director looked at the cement allocation paper in his hands in wonder. “How did you get such huge sum of money?” The MD asked with his mouth hanging open in wonderment. “The daughter of chief Alarape, the chairman of National Bank of Nigeria is my partner in supply business; she provides the money, and I do the leg work,” Kolawole said smiling at his former boss proudly.

The MD bought the six hundred bags of cement from Kolawole with a Bank certified cheque that very day. Kolawole and Temitope Nigeria Enterprises became one of the major local suppliers of building materials to his former employers; and within a year, Kolawole had become a Millionaire in his own right.

One Saturday morning, Bunmi Bamgbola, the confidential secretary to his former boss paid Kolawole a surprised visit in his house. Kolawole allowed her to enter his flat, and after he offered her a bottle of Multina drink with some cracker biscuits, he asked; “Bunmi, don’t you know it is not wise for a spinster to visit a bachelor without an escort?” Bunmi looked at him and said with a seductive smile on her lips; “The worst thing you can do to me is to bang me on your bed Mr. Kolawole.”

He was shocked at her implied seduction; he moved closer to her and lifted her up from the couch; he kissed her forehead, and moved away from her as he said; “I don’t feel anything for you Bunmi; you are a beautiful woman for any other men out there, but I just don’t feel anything for you; there is no spark.” Bunmi looked at him sorrowfully and said; “But you said to me about two years ago that you can have me on a level ground; your house is a level ground and I am still dyeing to feel you inside of me Kolawole.”

Kolawole looked at her pleadingly; “I have changed quite a lot since that time Bunmi; I am now a child of God, and I can no longer have casual sex with any woman except my wife.” Bunmi stood up and said pleadingly; “Then marry me!” Kolawole became very angry with her, this daughter of Jezebel want to destroy his life like Mojisayo did to him in the past, he thought. “I just told you I don’t feel anything for you and you are asking me to marry you; and for what reason if I may ask? You came to seduce me in order to mess up my life like Mojisayo did to me; now get out of my flat before I count three, one, two, and three!”

Kolawole was visibly shaking with anger on his face as he was counting one to three; Bunmi quickly picked up her hand bag and walked out of his flat with tears in her eyes.

Bunmi later thought about all what Kolawole had said to her in his flat; and when he picked her up from the couch; she had expected him to envelope her in his powerful arms and kiss her on the lips for a romantic journey to his bedroom, but he kissed her forehead instead and he then moved away from her as if she was his sister; and that was a clear sign that he felt nothing in his body system when he came very close to her body, but she felt his masculine attraction when he was holding her close to his body; she then decided not to force herself on Kolawole again who feels nothing for her physically and emotionally; and she made up her mind to start thinking seriously about getting married to a man that would feel something for her as a woman; she consoled herself.

Kolawole had become a very successful and rich building materials wholesaler and Supplier to many companies and to private house owners. At one point after he settled his affairs with his former employers; he picked his son from the mother of Mojisayo in Ewekoro and took the son to his own mother to join his older sister who had been with his mother since she was one year old. His daughter was already in primary one at the age of five, while his son who was four years old was enrolled in Nursery three in his mother’s Community. Kolawole made it his duty to visit his mother and his two children every Saturday, unless he was out of the Country. As a successful businessman, Kolawole built a three bedroom flat for his mother and furnished it tastefully because of his two children. His mother was fifty-seven years old, and his father was sixty years old retired civil servant who remained in his own house with his second wife who was forty-five years of age.
