Growing up Sammy had heard all the rumors of how there were some people that had robbed banks in her small community and had never been found out. Now, it wasn’t as though no one had been to prison. Her brother had been to prison and many of his friends.

Some of the people in the community thought it was an expectation that the young men especially would go to prison.

Sammy’s friends were still too young, but some of them had some experiences with law enforcement and a couple of her friends were in a juvenile detention program. She was told they were in a 30-day program for evaluation. They may have to stay there, and they may not.

Sammy liked being called by Sammy. Samantha just did not fit her, she thought!

Sammy spent some time as a teen getting more of the rumors about the bank robbers and how they happened to do that. She spoke with everyone she had heard who knew something about the bank robberies.

She decided it wasn’t the guys in prison that were smart enough to rob banks and get away with robbing banks. She came to believe that she was smart enough to do that and stay out of jail. She knew it would take some planning, but she knew she could do it.

She started to plan. She knew that it would be difficult to do it all on her own. She knew that she would need another smart person. She started a list of people that she would be checking out.

Because Sammy wanted to graduate from high school, she planned to wait until that fall, after she graduated to rob a bank. She wanted the summer to celebrate graduation and then she would give robbing a bank a try. She knew just the bank.

May came soon enough and she was ready to walk for graduation. She had finished school with honors and was set with scholarships to go to college.

That summer she planned to visit her cousin in the big city. While there, she knew she would be doing some scouting for the big event. Her cousin was in college and working at a bank. They had many conversations about her cousins’ job.

Security, employees, the vault, the drawers of cash, etc. She even asked her cousin if she were to rob a bank, how would she do it. Then she talked about the rumors from their small town and about the bank robbers.

Time went quickly and Sammy had found her partner. Steve worked at the local gas station, convenience store, that rented cabins, and sold propane, and liquor. At the end of summer, they felt prepared for their project.

Sammy and Steve were all set to rob a bank. They followed their plan exactly as they had talked about. Everything went smoothly and when they did rob the bank, they got back into their community as quickly as possible, as they would need an alibi, and they hoped that the community would give them that, in much the same way as the rumors had spoken of.

No one would have expected that the bar owner would lie for them, but she did. Of course, they were in the bar drinking all day and much of the night. Just like the old rumors, there were many rumors and still, no one was caught.

Banks were robbed all over the state and no one was caught. People were questioned and people were arrested but no one was found guilty of the crime. The banks did not lose the money, the insurance companies took the loss.

To this day now several years later it is still a mystery. Only rumors, no one knows for sure. Some of the people involved are dead. There are many bank robberies that have never been solved.
