A Micro-Fiction with Bite
Footsteps on cobblestone streets were faint at first, dismissed as imagination.
Pursuit getting louder and closer, he upped his pace.
The sound of thudding feet and harsh breathing sent chills down his spine.
He turned a corner attempting to lose the pursuer, looking over his shoulder.
His screams echoed down the street.
A creature from his nightmares. Hideous face, yellowed eyes, a muzzle full of tusk-like teeth, knotted fur, horrid claws and foul breath!
‘Oi, mate! Stop the screaming would you! You dropped yer' wallet back there! I’ve been trying ta catch up ta give it back, yeah?’

Prey
He stood back with a contented sigh, taking a moment to admire what he had wrought. Smiling as he drank in the beauty and art of the scene before him. This was his best yet, even if he did say so himself. His ecstasy expressed in vivid red arcs across the wall, offset perfectly by the bright white of the plaster. His subject's exquisite pain etched in every contorted line. The contrast between the pools of red, so dark they were almost black. Some soaked in, giving a rough texture: others framed in irregular shapes on the floor that reflected the soft lighting. The subject's pale finger dangled down, as if pointing, mirrored in one of the inky pools.

‘How do we go about it?’ The group of three men and one boy shifted from foot to foot around a bonfire spluttering sparks in the bone chilling drizzle, a few hefty stones sitting amid the flames. They were thinking about all the time it took to get it going in this weather. Someone sniffed, someone coughed. They all felt cold and uneasy standing at the edge of the fields sprawling in front of them in the dusk, with their backs to the dripping birches surrounding the cemetery.
