CHAPTER 13

“We have to get the fuck out of here!” James shouted as he wrapped the scabbard around his waist and then put his wind katana into it.

“Halt!”

Just as Kawa and James ran out of the secret room, they were completely surrounded by the Martian samurais pointing their swords at them.

“Surrender or die!”

“Ha! I’d rather die!” James chuckled softly, making the Martian samurais look at each other in confusion. He glanced at his Earthling comrade. “Kawa?”

Kawa nodded his head, signaling that he was more than ready. They quickly withdrew his flaming and whistling swords.

“Attack!” One of the Martian samurais yelled as they charged at them.

James yelled a warrior’s cry as he quickly swung his sword through the air, creating a strong wind gust. It blew away every single Martian samurai all the way across the hallway.

“Oh shit!” Another Martian samurai on the other side of the hallway cried in surprise.

“I’m going to take care of them!” Kawa yelled as he ran toward the frightened Martian samurais. He thrust his sword through the air, sending a ball of flames at them. The samurais cried in pain as they were running around, trying to take out the flames that were set onto them.

“Nice!” James exclaimed. He and Kawa were running as fast as they could, passing the samurais who were preoccupied with themselves and each other.

“We have to keep moving! If we stop even for a second, more samurais will go after us!” Kawa shouted at James. “We will be outnumbered if that happens!”

“Yes, sir!”

They could see more and more Martian samurais running towards them. Kawa quickly jumped up in the air and then dropped himself back to the floor, slamming his sword on it. He sent the flames all the way across the floor.

James swung his sword once again but this time, his wind gust made the flames even stronger, faster, and bigger.

“Here!” Kawa tossed a pill at James, who took a look at it and realized that it was a Chaos Pill. “With it, we can run faster!”

“Do we have to?” James asked almost in disappointment. He wanted to see how much stronger he was against this high number of the samurais. He had never fought more than three samurais before. Not even in the training sessions.

“Yes, if we don’t want to die!”

They swallowed their pills. They could feel their bodies become much lighter as they were running faster and faster.

“Can you destroy it?” Kawa pointed a finger at the door to the stairs.

James quickly slashed the air with his own sword as many times as possible, creating multiple sharp gusts at the door. It was destroyed instantly, leaving the hole behind. His sword was almost growling as if it was alive. He could also feel that his sword was breathing heavily for some reason, but it could be a side effect of the Chaos Pill to cause hallucination.

Kawa’s sword was bursting with flames that were even larger than usual. He was pretty worried that he could get burned at first, but he did not feel pain at all. It could be another side effect to lessen the pain as well.

That was how dangerous the Chaos Pill could be. They had been warned by their superiors about it so many times. Many samurais in the training died because of it.

It felt like a mere second when they climbed up the stairs and got out of the underground prison into the palace. Once again, they were completely surrounded by not only Martians but also Europan samurais. They were glaring at them with so much hatred.

“Now what?” James asked almost nervously.

Kawa wished that Akane and Graciela were with him, but he knew that he could not call for them. They were the Martian and Europan samurais, the enemy of Earth and Moon. He would never want to put them in danger at all.

“Identity yourselves!” It was an Europan samurai who demanded.

The hearts of James and Kawa were beating faster and faster. It could be due to the fact that they were facing hundreds of the samurais or the fact that they were in danger of getting captured or worse, getting killed.

“Kawa, what is it?” James asked worriedly when he heard Kawa’s laughter, which was a mixture of nervousness and excitement for some reason.

“This is fucking great,” said Kawa softly. He reached his hand into his small sack which was tied to the belt of the sword scabbard at his hip. “We are going to die after all, are we?”

“Surrender now or die!” One of the Europan samurais demanded again.

“Use that hurricane thing, James.” Kawa said, taking out another Chaos pill. “Hurry.”

James did so. As soon as he started running around Kawa, the Martian and Europan samurais immediately charged at them. But they were not fast enough.

James was much, much faster than they thought. It was almost as if his speed was inhuman. It confused them greatly as only Earth and Moon were the only districts that provided their samurais with the experimental Chaos pills.

The Wolf Samurai became faster and faster until he felt that he was at the speed of hurricane wind itself. He tried to lift his sword, but it was way too heavy for some odd reason. It could be that the faster he went, the heavier the gravity became. It reminded him of the first day he arrived on Earth. He had never felt Earth’s heavy gravity before as he had been living with Moon's low gravity for his entire life.

Thanks to the Chaos pill that increased his strength, he successfully lifted his sword and sliced it through the air, creating a huge wind gust. It was as if it were literally a hurricane.

“Yes!” Kawa exclaimed after he took the second Chaos Pill. The flames on his sword were roaring even louder. He was not sure if it was for excitement or another side effect of the Chaos Pill. He thrust his sword through the large wind gust, setting it on fire completely. Such bright light coming from the flames stunned the samurais who covered their eyes.

“Go!” He yelled. He grabbed James’s arm and pulled him as they were running out of the range of the hurricane.

To their surprise, there were even more Martian and Europan samurais standing by on the open field. The Earthling and Lunan quickly dove into one of the narrow alleyways.

James sighed lightly, his heart still beating pretty fast. He glanced at Kawa and was taken back by his eyes. “Kawa? Your eyes.”

“What? What’s wrong with my eyes?” Kawa blinked in confusion.

“They are…” James said nervously. “They look like a cat’s eyes or something like that.”

“Oh?” The Earthling said softly. “It must be the second Chaos Pill I took.”

“You took the second one? Are you fucking crazy? You could have been killed if you overdose!”

“Shhhh!” Kawa shushed loudly at him. “It’s my body, so it’s my decision, okay? I wouldn’t be able to set that huge fire on your hurricane if I didn’t take the second one. At least we are still alive. That’s important to me.”

James rubbed his throbbing forehead in frustration. "Just... don't take another one. I can't afford to lose you too."

The Dragon Samurai nodded his head with an apologetic look on his face. He then looked over the corner a little bit, trying to find a clear way to escape from the palace. Martian and Europan samurais were everywhere, looking all over the place for them.

"What now?" James asked worriedly. "Even with the strength of our Chaos Pills, we can't outrun them. Can’t Akane do anything to distract them?”

Shaking his head, Kawa glanced at him. “We can’t do that to her. If she does that, then she will become the enemy of Mars. She would have nowhere to go.”

James slipped down the wall until he landed his bottom on the dirty ground. His eyes were focused on the green grass as he was in deep thoughts. “Sooner or later they will find us. What is the plan?”

“We just stick together. That’s important to me.” Kawa gave him a small smile. “Even if that means death. I’m not going to abandon my comrade at all. It’s been our honor code for the last few thousands of years. Never leave your comrade behind.”

“Aha, it came with us to the Moon as well. Our superiors practically imprinted the words into our heads.” James chuckled softly. “I wonder if it’s the same with the others, you know? Like Mars and Europa?”

Kawa frowned at him. “They are the enemy, no matter where their ancestors came from. Even if they were from Earth. They are no longer Earthlings to me.”

“I know.” The Wolf Samurai smirked at him. “But not all of them are bad. Didn’t you use to think that all Lunans were egocentric assholes?”

“They are! Well, except you…” Kawa said softly.

James snapped his head toward the exit of the alleyway. He could see that the samurais were getting closer and closer. He bit his bottom lip nervously as his eyes were glued to the floor. “Kawa?”

“What?”

“No matter what happens today. We have to keep going forward.”

Kawa raised an eyebrow in confusion. “What are you talking about?”

“We… No, you have to stay alive, no matter what.” James pointed a finger at his Earthling comrade. “I learned that you are special today. It turned out that Lord Ares found out about you. For some reason, your katana is special.”

The Dragon Samurai looked at his own sword with confusion still showing on his face.

“Every single samurai in the solar system fears your power. The more hatred your sword absorbs, the stronger it becomes. It makes sense now… I know the reason why your fire-type sword chose you that day.”

“There is no need to babble right now. We have to get out of here.” Kawa did not want to hear anything from him anymore. He already knew that. He had been told by his superiors about the powers of his katana, but he did not care. He just wanted to get revenge on Mars for destroying his family completely.

“You’re right.” James nodded his head and got up from the ground. He grabbed the sack from Kawa. “Like I said, you’re special. You don’t even need Chaos Pills. They are just drugs that boost our heart rate, which in turn increases our strength and speed.”

“Here they are!” One of the Europans samurais yelled and pointed a finger at the alleyway.

“You are the hero the solar system needs!” James grinned widely at him. He suddenly thrust his hand into the sack of the Chaos Pills and took a handful of them.

“J-James, what are you doing?!”

“End the war for me, ya?” James quickly devoured the large amount of pills, making Kawa widen his eyes in shock.

“But why?” Kawa cried.

“Please listen to me.” James gulped once more. “Just run and live. You will find your comrades who will definitely help you to end the war. Kawa… the one who truly started the war wasn’t Mars and Earth. It was actually --”

Kawa was startled in surprise as soon as a long katana thrust through James’s chest. He was watching him in complete shock. He could not take his eyes off the bloody katana for a few seconds until he cried, “James!”

James coughed out blood, his shaking hands reaching up to the katana. “B-bastard! Th-they dared to in-interrupt me?!”

“James, we have to go now!” Kawa was just about to touch James’s shoulder when the Wolf Samurai slapped away his shaky hand.

“Go!” James yelled, almost roaring like a wolf. His teeth were turning into sharp fangs. “I took way too many pills, so I wouldn’t be able to survive. At least, you can escape for me now!”

“No! I can’t leave you!”

“You are the whole solar system’s only one hope now!”

Kawa was completely speechless. He gulped to ease the tears that were threatening to fill up his eyes. He turned to run.

James pulled the katana out of his chest and turned to hundreds of samurais running toward him.

“You fucking bastards!” He yelled before he threw up more blood. He continued, “You will pay for all the suffering you caused in the solar system!”

“Capture him at any cost!” Another samurai shouted.

As soon as James got hold of his sword’s handle, his fingernails grew even longer as if they were claws. Just as he pulled it out, a powerful wind was already released even though its master did not use its power just yet.

At amazing and inhuman speed, James slashed at the air, creating hundreds of large sharp wind gusts at the samurais, cutting them in pieces instantly. In his vision, the movements of the samurais were much, much slower as if they were in slow motion. It must be the drug that caused this.

His heart rate was way out of control. It was beating at inhumanly high speed, running the blood through the veins way too fast. His katana purred into his ears as if it was devouring him, his whole body and soul.

He blinked his full black eyes rapidly, and could not help growling loudly. His blood from the wound on his chest was all over his own body, staining his own Martian samurai’s outfit.

While he was just standing in the middle of the open field, the samurais were staring at him in both terror and amazement. It was as if they were looking at a half wolf and man.

James calmly and slowly sliced his sword horizontally at nowhere. His katana roared loudly as it released an even bigger wind gust, which was being formed into a tornado.

The samurais, on the other hand, did not even see James’s movement because in the next second, they were caught up in the huge tornado. They were receiving so many cuts and scratches from the tornado, spilling much more and more blood onto the open field area.

Soon when it was all over, James was standing in the middle of the field all alone. The samurais were either dead or running away from him.

All of sudden, his heart started slowing down. Pain shot throughout his whole body. It was as if he was hit by a spaceship. He fell backward to the floor, panting heavily with a small smile on his face.

“Kawa…” He whispered to himself as he was closing his wolf-like black eyes. I hope you understand someday. Especially your fire katana. You and your katana are the solar system’s hope. That’s why… you were chosen.
