CHAPTER 12

They went to Akane’s apartment instead of Kawa’s place which was already discovered by the Venusian, Martian, and Europan samurais.

Kawa could not help but look at himself in the mirror. The outfit he changed into was a Martian samurai’s uniform. He was wearing red top spandex, black loose pants, black combat boots with red tips. Instead of wearing red wristbands, he preferred keeping the fire-resistant gloves on, as they were still red anyway. It still would not make any difference. He ran two of his fingers across the symbol of Mars on the area above his left breast.

“Amazing! It’s a good thing that you look an Asian, eh? Half of the Martians are the descendants of Asians from Earth.” Graciela walked around Kawa, looking up and down at him. “I would have mistaken you for a Martian samurai!”

“So, Akane, the plan is to get past the security into the palace, right? I can just walk by?”

“Precisely.” Akane nodded her head. “As long as you are with us as the First Lieutenant Wu and Lieutenant Colonel Hernandez, they would not think twice about you.”

“We do not have much time,” Graciela said seriously. “We have to go now before the Council and Lord Ares make their decision about the Lunan.”

“Are you sure about rescuing James? It would be a death sentence for you too,” Akane asked worriedly.

Kawa smiled at her and placed a kiss on her lips. “Ever since I became a samurai, I have been ready to die.”

Akane was pouting cutely at him. “But…”

“Come on,” Graciela said impatiently.

“I’m sorry, Akane.” Kawa lifted Akane’s chin a little bit, making her look into his dark eyes. “James is my only friend. He is also my comrade. We had been through so much recently. I lost my family and friends to the war, so I can’t afford to lose him anymore.”

“Okay,” Akane said softly, as she glanced at her best friend. “I would have done the same thing for Gracie.”

~EARTHxMARS~

Akane and Graciela were right. They were allowed by the Martian security guards to enter the Ares Palace. It was that easy.

Kawa tried his best not to jump at every sight of Martian, Europan, and Venusian samurais, reminding himself that he was pretending to be one of them.

“Relax,” Graciela whispered, almost startling him. “There’s no need to be nervous as long as nobody suspects us.”

“Okay, we are at the first destination.” Akane stopped at the T-intersection of hallway inside the temple-like building. “Kawa, I gave you the directions to the dungeon, yes? Gracie and I will be around, making sure that nobody gets close to the dungeon.”

“Be careful.” The Ox Samurai smiled at him. “Don’t get killed, m’kay?”

“Yes, ma’am!” Kawa gave them a salute. “I’m on the way, then! See you soon!”

It did not take long for him to find a door on the left. There was a keypad next to it.

Only Lieutenant Colonels or higher ranks had access to the dungeon. Fortunately, Graciela had the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, so she gave the passcode to Kawa before they left Akane’s place.

After inputting the passcode, the door slid open easily. Kawa took one more time to look around in the hallway, ensuring that nobody, except Akane and Graciela, was following him.

The underground prison looked much nicer than he thought. He had always envisioned that it was like a rocky tunnel with old-fashioned jail with bars. There were some of the oldest prisons on Earth which were like that, but they were much safer compared to the newer ones due to the fact that the regular and old keys had to be used instead of the keypads which could be easily hacked.

Instead of old jail cells with steel bars, they were very nice and white with the unbreakable glass. Each cell only consisted of a bed, sink, and toilet. The prisoners dressed up in black jumpers so that the police could easily tell the difference between the prisoners with black outfits and citizens with white outfits.

“Please identify yourself, sir. And, please tell us what your purpose is here.”

Kawa stopped at the end of the hallway. Two military policemen were standing next to the only one steel door in the whole underground prison. He placed his firm hand at the position of his forehead as the first half of the salute.

“I am Keni Angel, from the Kasei samurai troop. I have the permission to speak with the Lunan prisoner from Colonel Ketsu Mitsukai, sirs.” Kawa finished the salute. “May I please speak with him?”

The policemen looked at each other, as if they were reading each other’s minds. They nodded their heads and then one of them entered the passcode, making the steel door slide open.

“James?” said Kawa after stepping into the jail cell, which was made out of steel as well. He chuckled mentally at the thought of how much Lord Ares feared James that he decided to send him into the steel cell instead of the regular jail cell with an unbreakable glass wall.

James shot him a deadly glare as soon as he heard the door sliding open. He was sitting at the corner of the bed as far as possible from the door. “If you are going to torture me by making me talk, then I’d rather die!”

“James! It’s… me,” Kawa started off loud and then became quiet at the end, not wanting the policemen outside hearing him at all.

“Kawa?” James narrowed his eyes, trying to get a better look at him from across the room. “How… how did you get in here? Why are you dressed up as one of them?”

“To rescue you, of course.” Kawa pulled four suction cups out of his sack. “Here, wear them! Just follow my lead.”

~EARTHxMARS~

The policemen jumped at loud knocks on the steel door. One of them quickly inputted the passcode, opening the door.

“James is gone!” Kawa cried in panic. “He just disappeared into thin air!”

“You must be fucking kidding.” The military policeman pushed Kawa aside so both of them entered the steel cell. They were shocked to learn that Kawa was right. James was gone.

“See, see? I told you!” Kawa yelled from behind.

“Damn, he is right!” One of the guards looked around at the empty room in confusion. “How in the world did he escape?”

All of sudden, James yelled, “surprise!” as he was falling all the way from the ceiling crashing into two policemen, knocking them out in process as their faces smashed into the floor.

“Great!” Kawa exclaimed. “Oh, here. I got the Martian samurai’s uniform from Akane for you. Hurry and get dressed up. We can sneak by the security cameras.”

“That’s correct. For some reason, this room doesn’t have a security camera,” James glanced around at his cell room. “Well, here it goes!”

After changing into the samurai outfit, James and Kawa casually made their way through the hallway.

James could not help but flash the biggest grin ever. “I knew you would rescue me sooner or later!”

“Nah, I know you would do the same thing for me.”

“So, do you know where my katana is?” James asked.

“Yes. It’s not that far,” Kawa said. “It’s on the floor below us. As long as we have the passcode, we shouldn’t have any problem getting past the security.”

James was tagging his red spandex top a little. “Man, this tight shirt is itchy! I miss my own samurai outfit. Black looks good on me!”

Kawa chuckled softly at his friend. He could not imagine being alone now. If James were with the other Dark Fury samurais and died along with them, then where would he be by now? Would he get stuck on Ceres? Or would he come to Mars alone in order to kill Lord Ares?

As much as he wanted to tell James about Graciela, but now was not the time. They had to get out of the palace first.

“Here we are,” he said.

James looked up at the sign of the stairs above the door.

After successfully inputting the passcode, they hurriedly went downstairs to the next floor. As usual, the door to the second floor had the keypad.

The entire walk was quiet, as if they did not want to say anything wrong. The security cameras were everywhere. They were around ten feet apart.

“We need to hurry up,” James whispered to Kawa. “With those cameras, we could get caught sooner or later.”

“I know.” Kawa took a peek at the small tablet for the map of the floor they were on. “We should be there by…. now.”

They stopped in the middle of the long hallway. They were looking around, looking for the door, but there was no door anywhere within twenty feet.

“Are you sure Akane gave you the right map? Can’t you just call her?” James crossed his arms in annoyance. He just wanted his precious sword back. He was very upset when it was taken away from him by the Martian samurais. So, he got in a fight with them but failed miserably as he was outnumbered.

“I can’t.” Kawa shook his head. “She would blow her cover. She is trying her best to keep as many samurais as possible out of the underground prison.”

James glanced at the camera staring back at them. “We don’t have much time. We have to find my sword like now.”

Kawa leaned his back against the wall, trying to think so hard about how to find the room where James’s precious rare wind-type katana was being kept.

Suddenly, they heard a loud beep. Soon, the wall which Kawa was leaning against slid open, and so he fell through.

“Kawa!” James exclaimed in excitement. “You found it!”

Kawa chuckled softly as he got up from the floor. “Piece of cake, eh?”

The Wolf Samurai rushed into the small room. His katana was standing perfectly with the help of the sword stand. He was more than thankful that his katana was being taken good care of. As soon as he pulled it out of the stand, loud alarms suddenly went off.

“Oh fuck!” They said at the same time.
