“Quentin, do you like this place? You like knowing that you’re not alone. It’s not like you have much right now. No family calls you, you go to a community college and have average grades. Nothing about you is too extraordinary. You have the same gifts as your brother. Charles does, but he seems to be the more blessed one.”

Q looked at the ground. Standing there quietly. His anger not strong enough to lash out. He was broken. Half the person he was before returning back to the mansion.

“You don’t have to rub it in.”

Xavier muttered the words, almost scared to speak up.

Still his eyes stayed down, still not daring to look up at the other man. He seemed familiar like he met him before. Though Quentin could not place it.

“Then stop dicking around. Do you want to go back to your normal life?" Be around both brothers, be pushed around time after time again. You’re not special. Just another mutant. Another number.”

Still Q’s eyes were averted. His stepfather used to berate him constantly, this just reminded him of it.

Stop it!”

Quentin let go of the deck of cards but they did not fall down.

Instead the cards spun around in a tight circle then a larger one that filled the room as the older man smiled.

“Holy shit I’m doing this.”

Xavier was shocked. This was not his telepathy. Not the telekinesis at work.

This was different.

Another force all together. Something Q never encountered. He was so astounded as the deck went to make a castle-like figure on the floor in front of the two and the others that were sitting behind a table that Q, a mutant who should not be surprised, passed out hitting the floor.

The very next day after Quentin woke up from a good night’s sleep and a nightmare that seemed very real, he was told to go to the Headmaster’s office. Tapping lightly in a rhythmic knock Q came in after hearing the older man call to him.

“You wanted to see me.”

The older gentlemen motioned him to sit down with an open palm. Doing as instructed he went to sit.

“They tell me that you are on medication for depression?”

Q blinked for a moment and then cleared his throat.

“I don’t know what this has to do with me being allowed to be here.” ⠀ ⠀

The man leaned his elbows on the oak desk and put his hands on his face as if thinking and then put them down.

“Quentin, we need you to have an open mind about this experience and a clear mind. In order to do this, you need to stop your medication.”

Q mouthed okay as if being sarcastic, but not meaning that entirely as he went to open one of his drawers pulling out a contact. Placing it down with a pen, he slid it closer to Xavier.

“You’re right you know. Everyone medicates. We just hope you wouldn’t have to do that here. You’re not alone anymore Quentin. You’re with people that share similar gifts and similar views. We all strive to be the better versions of ourselves.”

Quentin saw the contact. He knew his brother would want him to read detail after detail making sure that he wasn’t taken advantage of, but this place was a once and a lifetime chance for him. Picking the pen up, he went to sign his name on the dotted line.

“Your family will get a notification from your “friends” stating that you are going backpacking in Europe for an unknown length of time. With a little illusions work they will believe this even your brother Charles will.”

Quentin smiled the best he could knowing that Charles would see through that, but he couldn’t worry about that at the moment. He would come across that bridge when it came.

“Welcome to your new life as a magician Quentin Xavier.”
