Unraveling - Part 2 - A Broken Souls Short Story

Mind numbing. Boring. Tedious. Rambling thoughts of how he would topple his brother raced through his mind, as Martin sat at the other end of the board room. He tapped his pen. Clicked it. Rolled his eyes. Huffed. He glared at his brother, Sam, while he presented the latest financial numbers.

Sam was droning on and on, driving Martin crazy with slide after bloody slide. As he watched, he only had one thing on his mind, and financial numbers were not on his Monday morning agenda. Nope. Instead, he sat there and dreamt of a thousand ways he could make Elana beg him to pleasure her, before the midday sun burned in the sky.

After two hours of ungodly presentations, asinine debates and trivial conversations, Martin nodded his head and walked out of the meeting as everyone was dispersing. Walking down the hall, he caught Elana's eyes and pointed to his office, silently inviting her to follow him.

Without another word, he stood by the window and focused his gaze on the trees below. He knew Elana was standing there, nervous, wondering if he'd fire her after her little proposal, but he wasn't going to reprimand her or kick her out of the company. Far from it.

Turning to her, he cleared his throat before asking, "Elana, do you remember Saturday evening?"

Tilting her head sideways, she looked confused at his question. "Are you asking if I remember my proposal?"

A wicked grin fell across his handsome face. "And on this sober Monday morning are you still looking for an answer to your proposal?"

Stepping closer, she leaned in and whispered in his ear, "I wasn't joking. I want to take your brother down just as much as you do."

"Why?"

"Because Sam is too serious. I want the corner office and the title that goes along with it. Since Sam is the golden child, someone needs to dethrone him. Why not us?"

"Why not us? Intriguing," Martin said. Leaning in, he whispered, "I'm still not looking for a long-term relationship, but I won't mind feasting my eyes on what's hidden beneath that little black dress."

"So, what are you proposing?" she asked, grabbing his tie and pulling him toward her.

Waiting for his answer, she licked her lips and blew him a kiss.

Ignoring her question, he asked, "Are you this naughty in bed?"

"You'll have to wait to find out. I'm headed to Vegas for a trade show until Friday. I'll catch you when I return." She headed toward the door, but before she opened it, she teased, "Take a good look at this forbidden candy. Don't even think about touching me until you agree to my terms."

Shutting the door behind her, she left Martin a hot mess in his office. He desperately wanted her, as was apparent by the growing appendage between his legs, but he wasn't going to play the needy schoolboy, not with this black-haired vixen.

Sitting down at his desk, he turned his computer on and couldn't concentrate as he mindlessly scrolled through the morning's emails. He jumped when his door opened and his father barked, "Get up and follow me. You're ten minutes late for a meeting and you know damn well I don't tolerate tardiness."

Jumping up, he followed his father down the hall like a dog with its tail between its legs. In that moment, he realized how he needed Elana to help him defeat Sam. He just couldn't show her his true desires, or she'd destroy him too.
