"The Weekend"

So much for solitude, a snow micro story

She arrived home to four inches of freshly fallen snow. The thought of a warm fire and a hot toddy made her smile. She looked forward to a weekend of solitude and relaxation. Alex was out of town until Monday and the thought of not having to fight for the remote or listen to his sports blasting on the radio was bliss. Besides she wouldn't start to miss him until then anyway. As she opened her front door Buster came running, as he always did.

"Hello Buster!" she greeted him as he danced around her "Yes, yes, I missed you too!" "Looks like it's just me and you buddy!"

With a fire crackling in the fireplace and her drink in one hand, remote in the other, she planned on binge-watching rom-coms all weekend. "This is the life buddy," she said giving Buster a good rub.

It wasn't until Buster began to emit a long, low, growl that she realized something was off. She felt as if she was being watched. She tried to shake it, this was hard to do with Buster continuing to growl, his hackles rising on his back.

Armed with liquid courage she moved towards the window and tore back the curtain to stare right into the creature's face, the creature looked as surprised as she! Screaming in fear she watched the huge hairy creature spin around and with just a couple of 6-foot strides disappear into the night.

"Alex", she said into the phone, "Come home!"
