Sweat drenched clothes and blistering feet made the journey to the summit worth the trek. As simple as the day started, it became more than what was bargained for.
The worst was behind him now and the last rays of sunlight shown over the mountain top like a beacon, calling him forward. He breathed deep, wiped the sweat from his brow, and dug into every step until he reached the top. His muscles ached and his body felt heavy.
He looked in defeat, reflecting his first day, from the valley of one mountain, into the valley of another.
