THE PERFECT ROOKIE PATROLS WITH PSYCHIC POWERS

Rookie Celina Juarez (Lizzeth Chavez) made a powerhouse Season 5 debut under the watchful eyes of LAPD Mid-Wilshire Division. Celina studies her “Rook Book” but displays unique power to transform Los Angeles policing with her otherworldly insights and extra-sensory perception (ESP).

A Los Angeles native of indigenous heritage, nine-year-old Officer Juarez suffered the tragic kidnapping of her younger sister Blanca. After Blanca was snatched from her family’s lushly landscaped front yard, the police went ghost for three weeks. Desperate, Juarez’s mother reached out to a psychic for help. Through the soothsayer’s insights, the cops finally rescued Blanca.

Tragically, Blanca spent two weeks in the hospital and died from injuries sustained during her abduction. The trauma influenced Officer Celina to value her spiritual connection to souls who pass on the afterlife.

Teen Celina developed her taste for New Age concepts at libraries and on the internet: auras, astrology, remote viewing and clairvoyance. But her urgent desire to make sure her family’s calamity was not repeated led her to compliment her intuition and hyperawareness. She gained concrete tactical skills from school, the streets, sports and fantasy role play games.

Adolescent Celina played Dungeons & Dragons to explore danger, adventure and improvisation. The helplessness of losing Blanca transformed specifically into ability gameplay through D&D.

Once she entered the Police Academy, Celina Juarez excelled to Dean’s List and D3 soccer.

Viewers met Celina all grown up as she joined forces on the street with Training Officer John Nolan. Day one, John had to caution her after she saged their vehicle, leaving it smelling like weed. When Celina cited probable cause in a suspect’s dark aura, John asked her to credit the empirical body language that inspired her feeling of foreboding.

Celina is still learning to balance her instincts and hunches with hardcore policing tactics. But she also influences John to lean into his intuition. When Josh intrudes into “his late mother’s home,” John solidly discerns the guy is lying. By the time clairvoyant Celina tells Nolan he will get married in September, he recognizes Celina’s abilities. Nolan instantly phones Bailey to change their wedding date.

On his likely deathbed in the Season 5 finale, Aaron mutely basks in Celina’s loving plea to roll a D&D twenty and re-up on his stamina and life force.

Is Celina exhibiting deep faith by communicating with Aaron’s spirit? Or

is Officer Juarez a modern medicine woman with some uncanny ability to heal the sick and injured? Moreover, will this young officer open up the series storyworld to the indigenous, paranormal aspects of a city built upon desert ruins of lost tribes as well as earthquake fault lines risking tsunami-level natural disasters and wildfires?

Viewers sincerely hope Celina will not be needed to escort Aaron’s soul to the afterlife. After all, the pair has only just begun to get closer.

This cliffhanger will continue to drive viewers crazy until Season 6 premieres. Could Celina bring more paranormal Ghost Whisperer plot lines to this fan favorite series? Time and writers will tell!

With the advent of the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike, fans remain in a holding pattern. I am certainly eager to see how Aaron’s cliffhanger pans out. And some viewers would appreciate Celina and Aaron deepening their coworker trust to become chosen family.

In conclusion, the stewards of the good ship Rookie have made a bold and unique creation in Officer Celina Juarez. We have observed the actress displaying her flair for fights and stunts. Can soccer, parkour, motorcycle or climbing hijinks be in the future of my new favorite character Officer Juarez. If Hollywood can advance past current labor actions, we viewers may be lucky enough to find out!
