The Duke of Jin eulogized Zheng, and all the lords of the Central Plains paid tribute to him. He wanted to rest for a few years and be the ruler now. However, he didn't know that the ministers of Wei had expelled the ruler of the state and installed a new one, and sent ambassadors to Jin to intercede. The Duke of Jin thought, "I should be blamed for my ministers' expulsion of the king, but then I would have to send troops again. What should we do?

It turned out that Duke Xian of Wei [the third ruler after Duke Cheng of Wei] was a faint ruler who drank, had fun and hunted every day, and left the state affairs behind. There were two ministers in Wei, one was Sun Linfu [son of Sun Liangfu] and the other was Ningshu [grandson of Ning Wu Zi Yu]. As soon as they saw the situation for Duke Wei Xian, they made friends with Duke Wei Xian's uncle and brother, Duke Plagiarism, and behind his back, they made contact with Jin, planning to have a backer in the future. The Duke of Wei Xian had heard some rumors, but because he did not have any real evidence, he did not dare to take any action.

One day, Wei Xian went to the palace to have lunch with Sun Linfu and Ningshu. When the time came, the two ministers rushed to the door in their court clothes, but no one came to pick them up, so they waited quietly. They waited until the sun was in the west, but no one came out to invite them. The two men were hungry, so they went in to ask what was going on. The man inside said, "The lord is shooting arrows in the back garden with Gongsun Ding, the teacher of archery. You can go in yourselves." The two ministers were so angry that they went straight up to the back garden to see Duke Wei Xian. When Duke Wei Xian saw them, he hung his bow on his arm and pointed his arrow at them, saying, "What are you doing here?" Sun Lin-fu and Ning-shu said together, "The Lord has asked us to come to dinner, and we have waited until this time. We were afraid of disobeying the Lord's order, so we had to take the liberty of coming to see him." Duke Wei Xian said, "Oh, I forgot. Let's do it this way: I will make an appointment with you guys in a few days." With that, he shot away the arrows again. The two ministers suffered from this nuisance and came out. Sun Lin's father discussed with Ning Shuyi, ready to abolish this faint ruler.

Sun Lin's father went to his home, and secretly asked his servants Yu Tuan Guan and Yin Gong Tuo [Tuo to second voice] to set up their men, and went up to Qi Cheng [in Puyang County, Henan Province, then on the Yellow River] to prepare to meet him. At that time, he also asked his son, Sun Kuai, to find out what Duke Wei Xian had to say. The next day, when Sun Kuai met Duke Wei Xian, he said, "My father is sick and has gone up to Qi City to recuperate, so I ask the Lord to grant him a few days' leaves." When Duke Wei Xian heard that Sun Lin's father was going to Qi City, he knew that he had no good intentions and said with a deliberate smile, "Your father's illness is probably due to too much hunger, right? I can no longer ask you to go back hungry too, so you can eat here." Sun Kuai had no choice but to stay in the palace. During the meal, Duke Wei Xian ordered a song and asked the musicians in the palace to sing it. There was a verse in that song that happened to be somewhat similar to what was happening in front of him.
