Once upon a time, when the Earth was still young, it was filled with wonders and mysteries. Life was simple yet profound. There was one peculiarity, though - no creature could see their reflection. The surfaces of water bodies were as opaque as stone, and naturally formed mirrors were non-reflective. Existence continued without the knowledge of self-image.

Among the celestial deities, there was the goddess Speculum, the Guardian of Truth and Clarity. Speculum had the power to reveal the truth, dispel illusions, and provide clear understanding. She watched over the Earth, noticing the peculiar lack of reflective surfaces and how it limited the beings' understanding of themselves.

Pondering over this, Speculum saw an opportunity to aid the Earth's inhabitants. She realized that by introducing reflections, she could help them understand themselves better, see their true forms, and thus, foster growth and self-realization. However, to introduce such a profound change, she needed permission from Gaia, the Mother Earth.

Speculum descended upon Earth, requesting an audience with Gaia. She presented her proposal, emphasizing the potential benefits. Gaia, ever the wise, contemplated the implications. She understood that the ability to see one's reflection could indeed foster self-awareness and growth. However, she also foresaw potential misuses and the obsession it might lead to. After a long deliberation, Gaia agreed to Speculum's proposal, trusting the goddess's intentions but with a condition - the reflective ability would be limited to certain elements only, primarily water and specific stones.

With Gaia's blessing, Speculum set about her task. She chose water for its ubiquity and symbolic connection to life and emotions. As for the stones, she chose naturally formed obsidian, symbolic of protection and grounding. To these elements, she bestowed her divine aura, altering their fundamental properties to become reflective.

Water bodies started mirroring the images of those who peered into them, and obsidian began showing the reflection of anything it faced. For the first time, creatures of the Earth witnessed their reflections. They saw their true forms, free of any assumptions or misperceptions.

Seeing oneself led to a cascade of revelations. Many were in awe of their reflections, some were surprised, and others grew contemplative. Each creature, humans at the forefront, started understanding their physical selves better. They could see their eyes, the window to their souls. They saw their smiles, their frowns, their expressions - every detail contributing to their understanding of self.

Meanwhile, the God of Craftsmanship, Faber, watched these developments with keen interest. Inspired, he decided to take it a step further. Using his divine skills, Faber began crafting mirrors from the reflective obsidian. These mirrors were a marvel, combining Speculum's gift of reflection and Faber's craftsmanship.

Mirrors became a symbol of self-awareness and truth. They were used for more than just viewing one's appearance. Humans started seeing them as tools for introspection, for they believed that along with their physical forms, mirrors also reflected a part of their inner selves.

However, as Gaia had foreseen, there were downsides too. Some individuals grew obsessed with their reflections, priding or despising their physical forms excessively. Misunderstandings arose, mistaking the physical reflection for the entirety of their being. Yet, these were the exceptions. Most understood the true value of reflections and utilized them as tools for self-awareness and growth.

Centuries passed, and the tale of Speculum's gift evolved into a legend. It was a reminder of the celestial origins of reflections, a testament to the goddess's insight, and a symbol of truth and clarity. Each time a person peered into a water body or a mirror, they were reminded of Speculum and her desire for creatures to see their truth.

Today, when we see our reflection in a mirror or water, we are witnessing a divine gift from a time when the Earth was young. It's not just our physical form that we see but a part of our essence, our truth. Reflections are not mere reproductions of our outer selves; they're symbolic of self-awareness, introspection, and clarity.

So, the next time you look at your reflection, remember its origin. Don't just see your physical form, look beyond. Use it as a tool to introspect, to understand yourself better. Let your reflection remind you of Speculum's gift and the purpose behind it - self-awareness, truth, and clarity.

As you observe your reflection, recognize it as a personal Speculum, a tool that can guide you in your journey of self-discovery. Remember, a mirror can show you your face, but it's your eyes that help you see beyond the surface, into the depth of your being.

In the grand tapestry of life, the legend of reflections reminds us of our inherent capacity for self-awareness and growth. So, let's honor this divine gift by utilizing it for its intended purpose. Let's gaze into our reflections, not with vanity or disdain, but with curiosity, with the desire to know ourselves better. For the mirror is not just a piece of obsidian or a water body, it is a personal Speculum, a reflection of our truth.

We have been given a unique gift, the gift of reflection. Let's cherish it, use it, and grow through it. After all, it's through understanding ourselves that we can truly understand the world around us. So, go on, gaze into your reflection, discover your truth, and let the legend of Speculum guide you in your journey.
